  1. 7.8Mb!!! *rikgale show upmost respect and admiration* If you want someone to host that I can. No idea how much bandwidth my ISP provides but might as well abuse it while I can! I can get it on 2night if you get it to me before 10.15pm. Send to rikgale ({at}) gmail dot com. If I don't get it, this evening I'll upload it when I get back from work 2morw evening, that's if you want me to host it. GOOD luck!! Ok test my own version, b**ched about my QT being out of date and would not run. Forgot to update my QT alt, but otherwise it installed ok.
  2. I got my installer down to 12.4Mb (7zip), by just deleteing stuff (all the language stuff apart fromt the english)
  3. Was it a branded PSU (i.e. enermax, tagan, or one of the other quality/expensive types). If it was you might have a slightly greater chance of a live mobo, but not much. Sorry to be the carrier of bad news. I hope for your sake, and that of your bank balance that it still works. Let us know how you get on
  4. It was probably rushed out because of that fone that has just been released that is compatable with iTunes. I'll test out your method 2nite. If it comes down to leaving the bonjour service in and having no errors or leaving it out and having an error I vote for leaving bonjour in... (my 2p worth) EDIT: I assume that you can delete all the language files and folders????????????? apart from your own language?
  5. Well good luck. What do you make of the changes to the GUI, assuming you've installed it? I'll look back 2morw evening after work
  6. QT alt 1.60 Beta 3 has QT 7.0.2 codecs in if that is any help
  7. I hope and pray you can trim this sucker. At 32Mb they are begining to take the p***. If you see my other post it also installs a new service called mDNSResponder http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=55383 I'll willing test it if you can trim it. EDIT: QT alt 1.60 beta 3 has QT 7.0.2 codecs in.
  8. Is it me or is iTunes getting a bit tubby round the edges? Upto 32Mb(5.0) form 21Mb (4.9) What on earth takes up 11Mb? Maybe Apple have taken a leaf from M$'s book and gone for making things bigger, but not necessarily better. Will have to check it out. Maybe Seapagan can work his magic! EDIT: Now installed and.... New serivce added: mDNSResponder (what for??????????) Change GUI, very similar, but there are changes and the top bar has become more compact. Parental Control added: probably a good thing if you have kids, but otherwise more bloat. This is what I conclude sofar
  9. Just a quick vote of Thanx, seapagan I used you .rar files and created my own switchless 7-zip installer which comes in at 5.86Mb, and makes it the default player an doesn't install the desktop shortcut. I have yet to test on a real comptuer but installs ok on VMWare.
  10. I replaced M$ Paint with Paint.NET ages ago. I remove Paint using nLite and silently installed Paint.NET using RunOnceEx. I've not looked back to the day where I binned Paint, Calc and Notepad. Long live, Paint.NET, CalcPlus and Notepad++
  11. Take the mobo out of the box and place on a non conducting surface... remove everything apart from the CPU, RAM and Video card. Attach a known good PSU, a monitor and maybe a keyboard. Fired it up, you will either have to use the switch from the case or you can use a screwdriver to short the pins which send the power on signal. (If unsure use the front pannel switch from your case) Power it up and pray. If it's dead you'll see zip. IF there is something left then it will post and you should see this on the monitor and it should then try and boot, where it will fail due to there being no HD. I think that you will probably be out of luck and you'll have a fried mobo, I did similar a few months back. If this is the case you then have to figure out if the RAM, CPU, Gfx card, HD's, CD-ROMs that were attached are still in working order and go from there. Borrow another mobo to test these parts. And use a good, branded PSU, the last thing you want is your friends mobo going BANG!!
  12. @bmn I'm currentley unable to post RunOnceEx as away from main computer atm, on holiday... I call my regtweaks at the beginning of RunOnceEx.cmd if that helps. I'm unable to check and see if it works with other users as well, for the same reason, if you do get it working in the next week, pls post how. Rik
  13. @one4another Just to add, that the reg tweak that I posted does work everytime and works perfectely!
  14. Dont jump and blame nlite straight off. That program gets blamed for alot of things that are not it's fault. Can you prove nlite is at fault? I do however think that you might be right, I just wanted to defend nlite as it does get blamed for alot of things. I fiddle about with the tweaks section and could not get it to work thru that way. I.e I did not tick the box "Disable: Use drop shadows..." and they were still disabled anyways, and I am 99.9% sure that I have not disable them anywhere else
  15. REG ADD %KEY%\026 /VE /D "MS PPViewer" /f REG ADD %KEY%\026 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\MSViewers\ppviewer\PPVIEWER.MSI /qn" /f REG ADD %KEY%\027 /VE /D "MS WDViewer" /f REG ADD %KEY%\027 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\MSViewers\wdviewer\SETUP.EXE /qn" /f REG ADD %KEY%\028 /VE /D "MS XLViewer" /f REG ADD %KEY%\028 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\MSViewers\xlviewer\SETUP.EXE /qn" /f I extracted the viewers and grabbed the contents from the /temp folder and used the above code. Worked with no EULA and no pop-ups etc. It all worked 1st, much to my surprise. HTH Rik
  16. My regtweaks are applied at the beginning of RunOnceEx. I just dropped those three lines in at the end of the file of tweaks and it seemed to work ok. I have only tested it once, but I am assuming that it will work again.
  17. Try adding this to your regtweaks file [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "ListviewWatermark"=dword:00000000 "ListviewShadow"=dword:00000001 "ListviewAlphaSelect"=dword:00000000 Seemed to work ok for me
  18. Also try scanning for spyware and virus, not just trogens.
  19. I can fully see where your coming from, and your urge to get 100% cover, but defeating that 30% out of the 99% is a must, and I fully argree on that. The 1% will be people who are way cleverer than us and have seen something that we have missed. I don't wish to take any steam from this effort, which btw is fanstatic. I have spent way too much of my time (at work) thinking about how to make a second security layer, or even a single that is more secure than the current way. So far I have to say that I have come up with very little. My one and only idea, based on the encrypting the enitre $OEM$ folder structure would be to password this and during the install or windows pop up a box for a password. However this then breaks the idea of a completely UACD, as it is no longer UA. As with everything there are pro's and cons.
  20. Dont be depressed mate, I ain't going for another 5 days! I think at the end of the day the smart ppl will always figure away round it, you'd be better off trying to cover the 90% that aren't smart or can't be bothered. Otherwise a very large amount of effort is going to be spent stopping a few. It's like with music downloads, ppl are always going to figure away around DRM and stuff like that, but they are in a minority. DRM happily defeats those that don't know or dont care. I'm not saying protection and security are not important, it's just that they are never 100% fullproof and there's not point getting stressed out over that last 1% I'll check out that cd swicth util when the time comes Refined 2do list 1) Protect/encrypt RunOnceEx.cmd 2) Compress/Encrypt all or most of the $OEM$ file structure, and decompress in a similar way to BTS driver pack. (Hard)
  21. Roll on the Fort Knox of XP! 2do, figure a way of protecting/encrypting the RunOnceEx.cmd. So that the contents of it can't be viewed easily. I did trying using QBFC to make an .exe but could never get the **** thing to Run at T-12, wondering if there is another way around it. Atm, I am using runonceex.cmd to call .exe converted .cmds which in turn run/install programs and associated .reg entires. Or one idea that just came to mind is encypt and compress the entire $OEM$ dir and extract in someway like the BTS driver packs do before t-39. The only issue I can see with this that there will probably be very few/no WMI classes avaible at the time. Maybe the extraction could be done later. This then also adds a speed issue into the whole thing in that if you are extracting this on a slow machine it could take ages MOON I can try and test the 2 CD/DVD idea, but that would mean figuring out a CD switching utility and all the associated stuff that goes with it, I suppose I could figure something out so that I can call my cleanup.cmd from another CD/DVD. Currentely I only use 540Mb of a CD for everything I install. And a quick heads up that I'll be away from the 30th August to 7th September, and my g/f is not letting me near a computer during that time, but I'm about until then, and back working days..........
  22. Go for 512Mb of RAM or you will struggle to do a lot of things with that laptop
  23. Neither do i. I just got a PM form MOON, wondering what was going on. Concentrate on work, those sound like some pretty intence presentations that you've got to do. MOON and I, will still be here when it all calms down. Keep well Rik
  24. Outlook express files have the .dbx extension. Under settings in Outlook Express you can set where they are stored, this will tell you the location that they are currentely in. Hope this helps Rik
  25. Try the drivers addon for UBCD4win http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads.htm Rik
