i'd have to agree... once you get it changed over to install off of CD/DVD, you'll never go back... like bryan said, it might be slightly slower than off a hard drive, but you'll end up saving time in the end i haven't run into the windows firewall, and set up an internet conection pop ups. What user name is it asking for?

yeah... def sounds like it would be too difficult to implement in this game, but as I said, maybe they can think of that for future games and hopefully make it a little easier to implement those kind of mods

@Simonsays are we not allowed to dream??? i hear ya though... it'd be an insane amount of work, but that's why EA should have seen if it was possible to make it easier to import cars into the game. At this point there's obviously no way, but maybe for future game releases.

LE I believe means 'lite edition', so it won't support all the latest and greatest features of the top end video cards, but whether it's good for you or not depends on what you're looking to do with it. If you're more in the market for a home theater card that's good at DVDs, and playing some games (but not at the crazy high detail level), you're right on the money. If you're a hardcore gamer looking to play half-life 2 at highest detail, this may not be your best option. On the MSI site, it says that it's "Designed using the Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 graphics chip with 128MB DDR memory", so it's a step below your 5700 to start with. It's a tv-tuner and video card in one, so it's an AGP card. That means wouldn't work w/ the apollo because your motherboard won't have 2 AGP slots to install both. My suggestion to you (and this answers your question about good tv-tuners) is to keep the apollo card, and get a hauppauge tv-tuner. Those tuners are the best of the best. Hauppauge they have a ton of products to offer, but depending on what you'll have available will govern what would work for you. As a general rule, I prefer PCI over USB. I looked at nVidia's website, and here's what I gathered about the 2 products- nVTV is just a TV tuner, and a good one at that. It uses hardware based encoding, which means all the tv 'signals' are encoded on the tuner, then passed to your videocard, freeing up your CPU for other jobs. - Personal Cinema seems to be a TV tuner and graphics card in one. It looks like it's a software based tuner, so you'll need a slightly beefier CPU than the nVTV would need (though w/ a 3GHz CPU, you'd be more than fine) again, which one's better depends on your application. I absolutely love Zalman coolers. very quiet, and do an excellent job. Toms Hardware Guide did a review here of a good one. Personally, I'm a hardcore gamer, so I would want a high end video card to just play games, and then use a separate tv-tuner to do my home theater type stuff. But ultimately I doubt you'd regret keeping your geforce LE and picking up a dedicated tv-tuner... either NVTV or hauppauge. good luck. hope this helped

it's possible saphire has custom drivers you may need to install... i've heard of that from other manufacturers, so it might not be a bad idea to check out their site.

well, you're getting an ntoskrnl fault... you haven't modified it have you? btw... to disable auto restarts, go to the properties of my computer -> advanced -> startup and recovery. In there is a checkbox next to automatically restart. You can uncheck that. things you could try: install a linux OS on your system and see if it randomly reboots. that may tell us if it's just a bad image of XP, or if it's hardware based. If it's hardware based, then it's tough. You'd have to swap parts in and out to see if you can find the problem, though it seems you've already eliminated RAM as the issue, it could be mobo, or hard drive related. You could disconnect the SATA drive for a while and see if that doesn't help, or try installing windows on just the SATA drive, etc... good luck. keep us posted.

i agree... those are some cool ideas... I'd love to be able to download some cars and put them in the game, esp the more exotic sports cars... your vipers, ferraris, lamborghinis etc

what OS are you running? If it's XP pro, go to start -> run -> eventvwr.msc and see if it lists any fatal errors right before reboot. It could be virus/spyware related as well, so try to update your defs and run full system scans with both. If you don't need the mem voltage higher than stock, (read you're not overclocking), I wouldn't leave it there. I mix IDE and SATA, so I know that's not your problem. I did run into the same problem with random restarts... would run fine forever until I started playing a game, or something CPU intensive. issue turned out to be the motherboard... so keep worst case in mind. good luck

is the 2nd router set up as a router, or gateway? Somehow I think it could be screwing up the routing tables preventing you from getting online until you do something with the linksys one. I don't think changing the IP of the wired router to a 192.168.2.X would matter, though you can obviously try. From what it sounds like, you're trying to essentially add wireless capability to a wired router? Make sure that the Dell router is setup as an acess point mode or something like that and not bridge mode, if that's what you're going for just a thought

I don't see why that wouldn't work. I would assume your range might decrease a bit with all the power inside the case, but as long as you're less than say, 10 feet from the receiver, you should be alright.

I've honestly never heard that before. Ultimately, if you were to benchmark the 2 cards on the same hardware, it would end up being a wash. The faster clock speeds on the 128MB should be pretty much balanced out by the increased amount of ram on the 256. If anything, the 256MB should perform better because it has more RAM. If you're going for pure speed, then obviously the one with the faster clock speed will be faster, however faster doesn't always mean better, especially if it's just 50MHz. That's why I think the "slower" 256 will keep up, if not surpass, the 128

reasons this should work: -XP is based (somewhat) on win2k -many drivers (nVidia, Ati for example) distribute setup files that are for both 2k and XP, which would lead me to believe that the drivers in that aspect are interchangeable reasons this will probably blow up in your face: -WHQL signing will probably fail for all your hardware (Bashrat or others may correct me on this if i'm wrong) -though it has better support as you said, it may not be the drivers so much as the OS coding itself, as there are a lot of things XP does way better than 2k (WiFi for one, USB is improved as well). There's nothing stopping you from trying, however i would make sure you backup the 2k driver.cab just in case. My personal opinion is it probably won't work.

There's no sense rushing into anything because if something doesn't work like you think it should, you'll have no idea where to start troubleshooting, and that's the most frustrating part. I could explain about the best options to run where, but to be honest, a lot will go right over your head because you don't have enough base knowledge. It's just like math... no sense teaching you how to divide if you can't add or subtract. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insult you or anything, it's just a fact. People here have been at this for years and they are still learning something new everyday. I've been at this about 6months, and I'm a relative newcomer. Just start slow, and you'll pick it up. P.S. there is no uxtheme.dll in win2k because XP was the first to have it. There are no real "themes" per say as far as i knew, the most you could change was the taskbar color, but not the actual taskbar, or the start menu or anything like that

you could edit the source disk files location to remove the subdirectory. I can't see there being a problem with that, however it's not something I've tried, so I can't say I'm 100% sure it will work. Your winnt.sif would only have to reference the folder with the INF as that's where the hardware information is stored. It does not need to know where the supporting files are located. $OEM$\$1\sound\(inf here)\supporting files\ so you would put in your winnt.sif a reference to the 'sound' folder. You would not need to put a reference in for the 'supporting files' folder. Don't give up. If you work slow and try to refrain from getting frustrated, it's not so bad.

disskeeper has more options for defragmentation than speed disk does, so that's why I use it. Speed-wise, they seem pretty similar. http://www.execsoft.co.uk/html/home/index.htm it installs using a MSI, so you can use the /qb to make it unattended

media center is designed to be a home theater operating system. if you buy a system with it pre-installed, it comes with a remote to navigate, and basically acts like a beefed up tivo.
