windows 2003: would really appreciate help!
FAT64 replied to clouds's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
That's a serious accusation, Ge0ph. I don't see the words "pirated copy of Microsoft Enterprise product". It may imply that, but not explicitly. -
When you allow Users to logon locally to your Domain Controller (yes, I know that's not the best of ideas, before you say anything), they still get the Administrative Tools link on their Start Menu. Is there any way of hiding this using Group Policy?? It must be possible, but a solution has eluded me.
-
Won't that also prevent them from browsing locally??
-
Do you mean that you cannot switch off System Restore, or you cannot switch on System Restore? The reason that I ask, is that when I installed SP2 I was unable to turn off System Restore, but I found how to correct that.

can you battle "install WMP10 to WIN2000"?
FAT64 replied to weist123's topic in Application Installs
WMP10 is for XP only, I think. I could be wrong, though. -
You're just a dirty, old perv, Famer. ........ Like me!
-
You can download it legitimately from the Microsoft website for a nominal charge, I expect.

I'm surprised that there are more votes for XP Pro than XP Home.

Windows XP has the bizarre property of being able to browse a domain even when you are logged on locally, i.e. not logged onto the domain. Is there any way of switching this off??
-
I very much doubt it, I think it is "hard-wired" into Windows.
-
The "proper" way is to install RRAS. But you can use ICS if you really must! http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/...ice_gateway.asp

There's an understandable, clear winner here: Windows ME (Mistake Edition!)

Sorry, BiOhaZarD. My machine was available for about 12 hours or so yesterday, I do sometimes switch off my machine overnight.

Copy it from my ftp site ... ftp://ftp.mariglenn.net

I buy all my CD/DVD media from either ... http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/ or http://www.svp.co.uk/

So, try this ... System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList] Value Name: Gavin Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (1 = show Gavin, 0 = hide Gavin) ... and restart.

Ah, it's possible that we're getting somewhere with your problem. First of all, changing the original Administrator account to a Limited User: BIG mistake, change it back. You should always create a "backup" admin account, just in case, which you have done. What is the name of this new admin account? Are you trying to hide/show the original Administrator account, or are you trying to hide/show the new admin account??
-
Yes, you are supposed to add it, and if I recall correctly it worked for me when I tried it many moons ago. http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1165/ Have you renamed the Administrator account??
-
If you have XP Home Edition, it might not work.

I thought that the BIN/CUE combination of files are associated with an application called "Instant CD/DVD" (it was originally created by a company called VOB, but I think Pinnacle bought them out). I think I've thrown away all my copies of it.
