  2. Umm.... wow.... shows the utter stupidity of some people...
  3. I've got a question that I think is a little strange... but should still be doable. The basis for this question is the way that my university's VPN network is setup. I can log into the university VPN from anywhere (not just on campus), and all my traffic is tunnelled through UBC (University of British Columbia). So what I'd like is this - a computer at home running Server 2003 that I can tunnel to, but still allows internet access. So the traffic goes from me (somewhere) to it (at home) to the internet. I've been able to setup a VPN, but when I connect, I have no internet connectivity. Anyone have any guides or links on how to do this? All the things I found (setup VPN as router, etc) required an "inside NIC" and an "outside NIC", but I've got one... and only on real access point. I guess I could get a second, and use two NICs hooked up to the same router, but that seems a bit silly...
  4. What backup software are you dealing with? I haven't come across any that cause this kind of problem yet.
  5. A trick to help everyone... don't look at the middle of the screen. Your prehifreal vision is much more sensitive to sudden changes than your binocular vision. Oh... and cover up the sheep themselves with a piece of paper. Damned turning heads cause me to twitch!!!
  6. Like ripken said - no double posting. Your thread went into the Software Hangout if you can't find it. Topic Closed
  7. Can I have your case?
  8. There are ways of making it seem like there are more than 700MB of files on a CD by writing duplicate files only once, but referring to them multiple times. When you go to look at the "size" of the CD or copy it to your hard drive, the duplicate files are referenced many times, increasing the apparent size of the disc. All the while, the data is still stored on 700MB of space. DVDs are the way to go if you have more than 700MB. Not really any other ways of getting more space off a CD. Like crahak said - you run into various problems.
  9. What are the specs of the computer that you're trying to install on? Have you built the different discs from the same set of source files, or from the original CD every time? It could be that one of your source files is corrupt.
  10. I generally try to avoid using the "compress contents" feature in XP. Like Jeremy and FAT64 said, it generally slows down system performance to a noticable degree. Try to clean out temp files or get a larger hard drive to store your data on. If you have to compress something, do it on non-system files (i.e. NOT Program Files or Windows).
  11. Are you talking about the menu bar? (File, edit, etc etc) You can have that stay by going to Tools->Menu Bar. It'll make it "stick" and not disappear all the time.
  12. You haven't heard Mike Chin's (SPCR editor) computers then... he's got 4 running all the time in his basement, and it's a 17dBa ambient there. Very few people can beat that...
  13. You've also got 3 more fans than he does - and I'm guessing that they're running faster than his are. Also, Ninja vs stock CPU heatsink. Even with an overclock, the Ninja outdoes most heatsinks out there these days. He's tried to go for quiet and reasonable computing, while you've probably aimed for maximum cooling. Oh... and 44C for a load temperature is not "really high". It's only high to those people who are completely paranoid about temperatures. Anything below 60C is perfectly acceptable for A64 systems.
  14. The included help files do actually provide all the information you need, but you just have to piece the various code snippets together yourself. Take a good half hour and just read through the manual. When you go back to trying to code your config XML you'll have a much better understanding and things will go much more smoothly.
  15. @jca2007 - Just so you know - downloading a CD containing Windows is illegal - regardless of whether or not you use your own key. The better option to do would be to extract the necessary files from your Dell CD and create your own ISO from that. It's perfectly legal to use the files from a purchased copy of Windows to make your own CD. Downloading another because you don't have the know-how isn't. There is plenty of information on the forums here to help you with that anyways.
  16. Low voltages can cause unexpected behaviour in PSUs. At SPCR, a new part of the PSU tests is low voltage testing. I can tell you that we find some pretty strange stuff there... One power supply actually sparked and then died when run at 100V. It's definitely not uncommon for the voltages in a poorly wired house to drop to 100V when a large load is applied (vacuum starting, turning on TV, etc). Different PSUs react differently - and don't think for a second that a higher wattage PSU is better at low voltage - usually the opposite. Higher wattage means that at any given voltage, a higher current is needed. High current spikes can overload capacitors, which we all know is a bad thing. Does this all happen with a fresh XP install (no drivers)? If so, then I'd guess that it's the motherboard. CPU problems are typically all-or-nothing, whereas motherboards and PSUs are usually the culprit of those "at random" errors. I'd try getting a simple PCI network card to rule that out, but since the onboard card is the one that might be giving you problems, it shows you that the future life of this board is limited.
  17. It's not meant as a dig against Gates himself - it's a joke... Definitely put a smile on my face.

  19. Oh yea... my internet is so fast - light has troubles keeping up!
  20. Does anyone have anything productive to say here? There's a whole lot of flaming and not much discussion. @DeadDude - Just because you have a different opinion doesn't mean that you need to get "p***ed off" about what someone else says. This is not a place to tell people off - it's a discussion board. People are allowed to have opinions and you need to respect that. Since there hasn't been anything productive about this thread (and I doubt there will be), I'm closing it.
  21. If you can save up a little bit more money, get a 7300GS or an X700. That little bit more money will go a long way for performance.
  22. Do have any idea how difficult it is to turn accelerometer data into useful information? It's definitely not just an addon for GameCube.
  23. I'm planning on adding GIF and PNG support in the future. It'll require a bit of a re-write though, so that'll have to wait.
  24. I use a slightly modified theme called Sentinel.
  25. @Digerati - Thanks for that info. I'll have a deeper look into their possibilities.
