Vista Ultimate only 698mb on disc -2500 on harddisk !
This is going to be the third person to say no. Downloading licenced software is illegal. If you really want to give it a try, then buy it yourself. And like Kel already said - Vista wouldn't run well on that computer - regardless of the motherboard or P4 processor that you upgraded to. Simply - no. I've got a similar system that I tried installing Vista Business on - good lord... horrible horrible experience.

How to Create the litest of Lite on XP
The better place for this is the nLite forums. And for what it's worth, I've made a 90-ish MB ISO, but it was pretty much useless... Moved to nLite forums.

Installing XP -> using fat-32 (not NFTS)
@j7n - In the simple read/write scenario, FAT32 might be ever so slightly faster than NTFS, but over time, that quickly degrades. FAT (in all forms) has nothing in it's implementation to help slow down the rate of fragmentation (few filesystems can eliminate it altogether). For some further reading, these Wikipedia pages contiain a lot of information - NTFS and FAT32. It's not just Microsoft that "wants you to believe" that NTFS is better than FAT32. It's the truth.

Is really Windows XP Service Pack 3 for coming?
For all of you who are bickering... here's info straight from the horse's mouth: Windows Service Pack Road Map Don't worry - Service Pack 3 will arrive. Microsoft already has put in a lot of time into this, and it simply wouldn't be cost beneficial to drop it. With Windows 2000, the mention of SP5 was very soon after SP4 came out, and there wasn't too much more that Microsoft could have done with 2000 (aside from implementing features already available in XP).

Which One?
Another voted for the Pioneer. I've got a DVR-111D and a DVR-112D. Both just keep on churning out good burns, and not a single coaster from either.

256 RAM
*waves the magic wand* Everyone needs to calm down here. There's too much bickering and not enough positive discussion. For what it's worth, my standpoint is that an OS is only as secure as the user behind it. Everyone has mentioned running Windows with AntiVirusX and FirewallY, but I've got neither, and it's been that way for several months now. Have I got infected? Nope. I've actually got three computers of mine running like this. It's tried and tested proof that you don't need security software. I don't recommend that others do the same, but if your wife is infecting the computer dispite security software, then it's simply a problem of her computing practices.

Opinions on wireless router & notebook card (Linksys & D-Link)
As a follow up note to this, I just found a new firmware for the WRT54G (Linux capable) family of routers. www.polarcloud.com/tomato It's really really excellent in terms of usability and stability. It's even got real-time bandwidth monitoring!

Intel RAID controller
Sounds great. Glad to hear things went well.

Intel RAID controller
You'll have to set the new array on the new board. I'm not sure if the Intel controller will let you simply call the two existing drives a pre-built mirror, but at worst, you rebuild the one drive from the second.

IT job and cert. suggestions
A college or university probably wouldn't provide those courses. You'd want to ask at a local technical school. On the other hand, you can probably teach yourself some of the things you've mentioned there through Google and HowStuffWorks.com (i.e. RAID levels).

Background
Just a question... have you tried unchecking the box, and then rechecking it (in the Appearance properties)? It seems like a lot of the regtweaks and suggestions here are just for setting it, or making sure that it's checked. Sometimes Windows needs that little kick in the butt to get it to recognize a setting.

@skizo - Did you not read my post above? The comment to bms was not specifically targetted at him, but something that all should follow. Insulting others isn't something we appreciate around here.

Opinions on wireless router & notebook card (Linksys & D-Link)
I'd recommend setting the router to G-only mode (by default it's mixed B and G). You typically get a bit better performance. Let us know when things have settled down a bit. We'll be glad to help you setup your network.

Can Any1 help explain something about OpenGL programming?
The setting of the camera position isn't very computationally intensive, so I'd be surprised if that's why everything is slowing down.
