  1. Wow... that's impressive. I always thought that it would be a good idea, but I thought that it would take too much power. If you can get more info on this, please do share!
  2. Well... if you could burn your CD, great. Just don't push your drive too far, otherwise you'll end up with no drive.
  3. Hehe... that's a funny one. Good find jcarle.
  4. I haven't heard of many games that allow you to display on multiple montors, just because of the sheer amount of processing power that goes into rendering one screen at decent framerates. Unless you've got the 7800-Ultra-GT-Xtra-Super video card, I don't think that your rig could even handle it... (especially not BF2).
  5. What...? There was actually a Windows Update feature in Win95? Wow... now that's advanced!
  6. Have you made sure that the drive listed in the main window of CD-DVD Speed lists your burner drive that the blank disc is in? If you've got multiple burners, you need to select the drive before testing overburning capacity.
  7. What? Now you've just confused me... Are you saying run a batch file from RunOnceEx? Why would you do this? Isn't that just making it twice as complicated?
  8. @grafx1 I just align the desklets (not icons ) manually. I usually set the top left and top right icons first, and then just add/subtract a common spacing for each icon next to it. It's a lot easier for me than the snap-to-grid. Oh... and as for harunaksoy's VS... a quick Google search figured that one out http://jemaho.deviantart.com/ Cheers!
  9. Every time you install new core hardware (video card, CPU, etc) it's always a good idea to clear the CMOS. Some motherboards have a jumper that you can move over for 10-20 seconds to clear the CMOS. Otherwise, you have to remove the CMOS battery (a round battery about 1.5cm in diameter) for that period of time. Put it back to normal and start up the computer and enter BIOS. You'll have to reset all your settings, but at least now the mobo doesn't "remember" the old CPU.
  10. **** that's a nice case... pretty big, but really nice. Next time I build a new computer from scratch I'll probably look into something like that. The ability to attach a fan directly onto the front of the hard drive bays is nice too... a good added touch by Coolermaster.
  11. Hey wait...send me the CPU!!! (please) I've been looking for dead/used CPUs for a little project... I want to make a keychain out of one after I've removed all the pins of course (or encased them somehow so I don't stab myself in the leg when they're in my pocket).
  12. Thanks jcarle, I reset all the BIOS settings to default (12.5*133) this morning and ran MemTest* again. Checking in on my computer after about 2 hours, it hasn't found any errors yet. My temperatures are 40C at idle and 44-45C at load, so no worries there. I've got a big 92mm fan blowing air onto my heatsink and the RAM sticks (it's big enough to cover both ). I may or may not have the chance to look at it again later tonight. I'll let you know if I manage to find out anything new. As for general OC'ing knowledge - Since technically I'm not pushing any of my hardware beyond the specified limits, am I actually overclocking? My CPU is set to 12.5x133 by default, but since 10x166 gives the same CPU frequency and lets the RAM run at it's maximum speed, there's no real overclocking going on, right? My guess is that I'm just manually setting the clock speeds to provide more performance than the default configuration. *As for MemTest...right now the one that I had running for the past couple of hours was the one I found here. I have a command line based Memtest program, but I don't know if it's the same one. I've attached it for you to see. It's got options that you can access using the /? switch. I also found this site which allows you to make a bootable ISO. Any recommendations on the best one? or will they all do the same thing in the end? memtest.7z
  13. Both methods do pretty much the same thing, just with a different wrapper. Ever since I learned how to do RunOnceEx, I've never gone back to batch files. The RunOnceEx is much cleaner and (as another thread pointed out somewhere) if the installation fails partway through, the remaining items on the RunOnceEx list will continue to be installed. Is there any specific stage in the installation where you get the "Out of Memory Error"? Could you perhaps provide a screenshot? Is it always at the same application?
  14. OK... so I'm gonna ask for a little help again here. What I've got running - CPU at 10*166MHz so it's at the same speed. This also means that my RAM is now running at 333MHz (PC2700) like the RAM is supposed to handle. CPU temp is at 40C idle. Everything boots fine. I can notice a pretty big difference when booting into Windows, just that all my startup items appear much quicker than before. But when I start stress-testing to make sure that everything is rock solid, I get errors in Prime95. Something to the effect of: I tried increasing my core and RAM voltages to 1.65V and 2.7V respectively (up from 1.6V and 2.6V) but no change so far. I set the memory timings to "Optimal" where they were set to 2.5-3-3-7 (which is what Lavalys tells me is "normal" for all the sticks).I just ran MemTest, and it told me it found 8 errors at the same time that Prime95 failed. I'm guessing that I got a bum stick in there... I haven't swapped out the sticks, since it's late and I have to get up fairly early tomorrow, but that's something perhaps for tomorrow night. Maybe I've got to wait for Santa to come early with a proper new RAM kit...
  15. Hehe.... 10 points for SiMoNsAyS! Official Release Date - No clue. I'm working with a preview copy right now and am on the list of Beta testers (no, don't ask me for a copy, cus I won't give it to you ).Chances are though, that it won't be too long. For 1.2, the "beta" stage only lasted about 2-3 weeks if I remember correctly, and what I've got running has been rock solid on my desktop. My laptop is a different story though, but that could be because I've followed Bold_fortune's guide and removed a bunch of files... I need to reformat anyways... Resource Usage - No different than 1.2 as far as I can tell. There are a couple of neat features that Andreas has added in, like the ability to flip certain desklets over and a cool new close feature for other desklets. Flippy Video Sucky Video
  16. Ok... I'll give you guys a hint... have a look at my open applications... (especially the version numbers... )

Ok.... now that is funny....I should make one and put it on my desk... see if my parent's catch on.

  19. @taco.bob No... that's just the fact that my pagefile partition hasn't been hidden from "My computer" yet with TweakUI. And.... Colin? Colin is a guy... but I was talking to my g/f at the same time though... And no... I don't have 78GB of pr0n.... just 3GB... j/k (that's part of what girlfriend's are for ) EDIT Dangit... I forgot to add... nice screenie - clean and simple, the way I like them. Welcome to MSFN!
  20. Hehe... nope... Actually one of the workstations at my job has 22 partitions on it... So my computer has fairly few in comparison...
  21. Well... actually about #1, that's not true. A couple of my friends had to take a second look at the picture I posted up to notice that it was CG. About #2, you're not understanding the point I'm trying to make - it's through a computer! Anything that goes through a computer can be manipulated. As for #3, when I'm at the track and see the cars, I'm there!!! I'm not seeing the cars over the internet or over an edited TV channel. Oh, and one last thing - I'm not a rich guy, nor do I come from a very rich family, but through contacts, I had the opporotunity to drive an F430 a couple of months ago. Now that is first-hand experience like no other. That is what I would compare with a trial version of software, since I was in the driver's seat, with my hands (and feet) at the controls. How is me describing how it works, being "negative"? It's not you describing how it works - it's the fact that you tell us all this marvelous stuff about it, and show a couple of people who manage to make the time for your meetings. But for the rest of us...*shrugs* we get nothing. You say that there are holes, but you don't provide examples, nor do you seek for me to clarify them. Please if you mis-understood something, I would be more than happy to clear that up for you. So... you say that you're tired of having to repeat the answers to the same questions, and yet you ask me to go back and dig through your posts to find this stuff and have you answer it again?Also... have you noticed how this forum has more than just one thread to it? Have you also noticed how everyone else who has participated in this thread has also participated in others.... except you? As much as you say this isn't some sort of advertising, it is... your very first post was about your product, and every single one of the 101 posts of yours after that have been in this thread (I just spent the last minute checking that). It just seems somewhat selfish to focus only on your product in a forum that deals with all kinds of software...(see here for a similar case...)
  22. Well... I'll bump this up since I think it's a great guide and should be easy to find. By the way... I just made an installer for PhotoshopCS using this method (after finding the 7zS.sfx from the extras package) and also by using the built in SFX method in WinRAR. For some reason, my WinRAR SFX came out at 160,357KB and the 7-zip SFX came out at 160,752KB (both set to Ultra Compression). Strange, no? It reminds me of a simple compression algorithm that we had to make for one of my computer science classes. My friend's "compression" algorithm would actually make the output files smaller if the originals were under 50bytes...
  23. I'm just wondering about something so that I don't end up frying my new hardware... When a CPU dies, is it usually from overheating? or is it possible to fry the chip simply by running it to fast? So if I were to try setting the FSB to 166MHz, I'd need to set my multiplier to 10 to keep the same CPU speed, right? (just being paranoid/cautious here) One last thing (for this post at least) - does the FSB or the multiplier give more of a boost when talking about pure CPU benchmarks? For example, would I notice a difference on a pure CPU test with the default 12.5x133 settings versus 10x166?
  24. @big poppa pump Thanks for the reply. I'm not really looking to overclock my CPU (although I'm guessing I could afford to). It's a Thoroughbred-A 2000+ currently running at 12.5x133MHz @ 1.58V (I don't know how much control of the voltage I have). At idle it sits at about 40-41C (with brand new AS5 - not worked in yet) and after 12hrs of Prime95 it got up to 46C (room temp is 21-22C). So I don't think cooling would be an issue if I push it a little bit. Like I said, I've got 2x256MB PC2700 and 1x512MB PC2700 (I thought it was 3200 - that must have gone into my ex's computer... ****), so I'm guessing that I've got some breathing room for frequencies in terms of my RAM (since it's running at 266MHz right now). The timings on the RAM right now are 2.5-2-2-6 and it's been stable running Prime95 since last night Just to help with more info about my rig so far, here is my heatsink. It's not the greatest, but it does the job better than the stock HS.
  25. Just a note about overburning - you need to burn the disc in "Disc-at-once" mode instead of "Track-at-once". As for the CD-DVD Speed test - do you have a blank disc in the drive? You need a blank disc as a dummy disc (since it simulates burning) for the test. Do the test before you set your over burning settings in Nero. Otherwise there's a good chance you'll end up with a failed disc or a busted drive.
