Well... update time! I tried setting my FSB to 200MHz (Multiplier 8x), and the BIOS automatically set the FSB/RAM ratio to 5/4 to set the RAM to 333MHz (grumble). Went back, set it to 3/3 (with default timings) and booted up MemTest86+. It got about 50% done and then 9 errors popped up... Oh well... Set the FSB to 166MHz (FSB/RAM - Auto, Multiplier 10x) and went back into MemTest86+. It ran all night (about 6 hours), completing the test 9 times with zero errors. Maybe what I'll try is to set the FSB back to 200MHz, and set my multiplier to 8.5, and let the FSB/RAM ratio take care of itself. Since the RAM seems to be happy now at 333MHz, I could just leave it running at that speed and let everything else enjoy the benefits of the faster FSB. An interesting thing I noticed during my many looks through my BIOS - there's no control over PCI clock speeds at all. Maybe the PCI clock speed is locked to prevent any errors with PCI devices.

Have you cleared the CMOS of your BIOS? Check your manual. You'll have to move a jumper for about 5-10 seconds, or remove a battery for that time. This will clear all the settings in BIOS (including the system time), but it's usually a good first step to try out.

Right-click on the toolbars and select "Customize". You should be able to add the "Print Preview" button to the toolbar from there. If you're wondering about a registry key or setting that controls this, I have no clue...

Interesting... I've never dealt with the parts of an Intel system. Thanks for the info. They're probably one and the same thing. L2 cache was moved to "on-die" to make it faster to access a number of years ago.

CPUs are CPUs... there's no difference from one to the next. If the socket fits, chances are it'll work with your motherboard.

A hippie gets onto a bus and sits next to a nun in the front seat. The hippie looks over and asks the nun if she would have sex with him. The nun surprised by the question politely declines and gets off the at the next stop. When the bus starts on it's way the driver says to the hippie, "I can tell you how you can get that nun to have sex with you." The hippie says that he'd love to know, so the bus driver tells him that every Tuesday evening at midnight the nun goes to the cemetery and prays to God. "If you went dressed in a robe and glow in the dark paint mask she would think you are God and you could command her to have sex with you." The hippie decides this is a great idea, so that Tuesday he goes to the cemetery and waits for the nun to show up. At midnight sure enough the nun shows up and begins praying the hippie jumped out from hiding and says. "I AM GOD! I have heard your prayers and I will answer them, BUT ... first you must have sex with me." The nun agrees but asks for anal sex so she might keep her virginity because she is married to the church. The hippie agrees to this and has his way with the nun. After the hippie finishes he stands up and rips off the mask and shouts,"Ha! Ha! Ha! I'm the hippie!!" Then the nun jumps up and shouts, "Ha! Ha! Ha! I'm the bus driver!!" Source Just thought I'd share...

You could also just use the $OEM$ folders to place the files there in the first place. It's probably easier than using an SFX program...

Kerio v4 does not suck... whoever told you that hasn't used it properly then. Try upgrading to v4 to see if you get access to a little more functionality in controlling the traffic. If all else fails, you can always go back to v2 if you want.

Well... it is a beta after all (Beta testers find bugs for the rest of us). Glad to hear (and very nice look to it).

I'm curious to know if programs that are out for WindowsXP can be installed on Vista. I'm not a beta tester, so I don't have the chance to check for myself... Thanks in advance.

Well... how often do you use System Restore? It will help sometimes, but in other situations it'll bodge your system even more than it already is. In general, I would recommend deleting the system restore points, just for safety's sake. With a little bit of work, you can easily get your computer back to the way it was at that point in time anyways, without the need for System Restore. Just to be on the safe side, I would recommend running an online scan, just to be sure that you got everything. Trend Micro HouseCall is a good first stop. If you want a proper backup solution, I would look into getting a program like Acronis True Image. It's not free ($49.99), but it works like a charm and takes a proper backup image of your system. I just restored my system last night after having messed around with some system files - just click through the options and 10 minutes later my computer was back to it's good ol' perfect self. Worth the money for me for the sake of peace of mind.

I've got ADSL, but I'm trying to tell my parent's to switch to Cable. We're at the physical limit of ADSL cable lines, and our connection cuts out sometimes... so not worth $40 CAD/mth.

Coke. You just can't make Rum&Pepsi's... it just doesn't sound (or taste) right.

Can you not just allow WarCraft2 full network access? IPX networking can be a pain in the a** sometimes - I could never get it to work with Red Alert 2, dispite manually entering addresses and all that crap.

Go to 50 porn sites in IE and see what happens. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually... with PC Cillin and SP2, he'd probably be alright. It rates pretty high up there in terms of protection.

Well... you weren't searching hard enough... Google Startup Manager Freeware and go to the first link. I found this program which does exactly what you're looking for. Or some more programs here (4th link).

Umm... what? Link doesn't really work...

I'm starting to get somewhat annoyed by people who don't search before asking a question. A simple Google search will probably give you all the answers to your question. *grumble grumble* I can understand that there may be certain things that aren't so easy to find an answer for through search engines, and that's fine to ask a question about, but there are other things that people can easily find on their own. I just hate being Capt. Obvious.... Maybe mods should add an XPlode EULA-style forum rules for new members (anyone who follows the XPlode section knows what I'm talking about). That way people will actually read through and understand the rules a little better. (no more of these "It doesn't work", "Help me...", and "XP Troubles" titles)

Did you do a Google search? You can easily find what you need on your own. I haven't used any startup managers since I don't really need them, but you can test them out and let us know which one you used.

What kind of monitor do you have? Some monitors only allow a maximum resolution of 1024x768, especially older monitors or perhaps a 15" LCD.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or by design. Well... as you can see above, I just quoted myself from the July Desktops thread. After having clicked on the "Quote+" button, I came over here and started a new topic. The forum remembers that I quoted myself from the other thread and dumps it here. I can see how this might be by design, so you can go around "collecting" quotes from different threads, but at the same time, it's not all that efficient. It would make sense if the quotes were collected while you're still in the same thread, but once you leave the thread, the stored messages are released. Just curious if this was meant to be or not.

Very nice desktops! @gunsmokingman - that's actually the new Beta, eh? How does it run?
