  1. Wha...? If your system is telling you the system32 folder doesn't exist then you've got big problems buddy... To help you out on this... download this bootskin just for example's sake. Go to the C:\Program Files\StarDock\WinCustomize\BootSkin\Skins\SnowLaden\ folder and open up the bootskin.ini file. You'll be able to see how the general layout of the bootskin works. If you want to add another image in there, you'll probably have to add it to the background image and use that as your bootskin. (Take the default background or whatever other background, open in an editor, add new image, save, use in bootskin)
  2. I've been searching around for the answer on how to do this properly... Basic story is... I've got the really annoying Acrobat Toolbars (and menu items) showing up in my Office applications and I don't want them there. I remember back in the days of Acrobat 6 that there was a file placed in the Office install directory that you could simply remove to get rid of the toolbars, but I can't seem to find that file anymore. I've also thoroughly looked through Process Explorer to see if there were any DLL's loading that were related to Acrobat (none found... ). I know that if you install Acrobat first and then Office, you don't get this problem, but if you reverse the order of installation, then Acrobat integrates itself with Office. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  3. The big problem with the Windows firewall is that it is easily circumvented by malware and it doesn't scan outgoing traffic at all. As for third-pary firewalls, I don't get any "pesky" pop-ups from Sygate, and I only need to allow the program access to the network once and it leaves me alone. I've never had a "false" alert with Sygate, perhaps one that Sygate thinks is a threat, but actually isn't. So I just adjust a setting and all is well. It's better to have a little bit of a tighter system that you then have to open up for your programs than a wide-open system (which is essentially what you've got now). I know other programs act in the same way (BitDefender, Kerio, etc).
  4. AveDesk has support for docklets made for ObjectDock. Any ObjectDock docklet should work in AveDesk without any problems. DesktopX widgets will not work however. If you're looking for more desklets, the Aqua-Soft forums is a good place to start (Link). You can also add SysStats to AveDesk to get system information and a whole bunch of other cool things. The SysStats site has links to lots of good configs and information. Hope this helps!
  5. Bah... you guys both have it wrong!!! It depends on the type of processor you have. @hakeem5454 - Go get BootSkin from StarDock (it's freeware). You can create your own custom bootskin without running the risk of turning your system into a brick. If anything goes wrong, you can always boot into safe mode and disable the BootSkin.
  6. Great stuff! I'm just curious - where did you learn to write your shell extensions? Also, have you looked into adding toolbar items? I'd love to have a Hide/Show Hidden items button on my toolbar, since I like to keep my right-click menu nice and clean. Thanks!
  7. The idea of a sticky might be good for places to find the software. However, the ways of making a good looking desktop changes from person to person. Some people use different programs to do the same thing, and having guides for everything would just be tedious (most of it is actually pretty self explanitory). A good place to start would be in the threads themselves. People often say what programs they use for certain items on their desktops. Once you've got the name of the app, Google is your best friend.
  8. @m16si - Look at jpless' post. Unless the older drive is terribly old (like 8-9 years) your system should run just fine. If you want to avoid the possiblity of your new drive running slower than it could, simply connect the old hard drive to your secondary IDE channel (you'll be sharing with your optical drive now probably) and the new drive on the primary IDE channel.
  9. Thanks for the update!
  10. Don't want to or can't?
  11. There are too many choices to make an actual poll, so just say what your fav colour/colours is/are. For me.... black... and dark blue... and dark green... pretty much anything dark.
  12. One of my friends does... addictively. He's got a character that's at lvl 120 or so... good thing he doesn't have school to worry about now.
  13. You need to learn how to make separate sentences... most of that last paragraph is just jibberish to me. Open up MSN - sign in. Go to the Options page. You'll find all the settings you want there (startup, auto-login, etc). Most programs have an Options page... this is usually the first place to check.
  14. That's just bizarre...
  15. Eep... that sucks. I'm still confused on one part though - you said that there's still money left in his account after you had recieved your refund? How does that work exactly?
  16. Just enable file sharing on your computers. Make sure both computers are on the same workgroup, and set up file sharing on one. In Network places, you should be able to see the other computer (as long as the Computer Browser, Server, and Workstation services are running) and then browse through the files. (It's a little more complicated than that sometimes, but that's the general idea)
  17. And you can't replace the battery? Most CMOS batteries are commonly available (they're just watch batteries or the like), and usually sell for ~$5. Here's a program that I just Googled up... haven't tried it though. Link
  18. You could try running the program in Compatibility Mode. Find the executable file, right click, and select Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, put a check mark beside where it says Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 95 or 98 from the drop down list. See if that solves your problem.
  19. Have you even looked through the options in MSN Messenger? It's not that hard to find... Writing in full sentences makes it a bit easier for us to understand what you're trying to say as well...
  20. Just a note... in future, edit your previous posts instead of making a new one. How do you have Rainlendar set to start? You should simply be able to install the program to a directory (like C:\Program Files\Rainlendar\) and then create a shortcut to the Rainlendar.exe file in your startup folder.
  21. Haha....pwned... Good one!
  22. Yeah, once a month should do it for manual scans. Did you also have a look at hibernation? A properly configured computer shouldn't need to shutdown/restart for a good long while.
