Actually, AS5 is soft enough to get spread out from the pressure alone. If you re-read the instructions on the AS5 website, you'll see that this is actually the recommended method of applying AS5. As for voltages, you should be able to read these in BIOS first of all. Dig around in the menus and you should find some info. What CPU/mobo do you have?

I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this problem or if anyone has any possible fixes for it. Whenever I try to connect to a network after my computer has been on for a while (i.e. not connected at boot/wake up from hibernation), the network status never changes from "Aquiring network address". I have an IP address as well as full network access, but the status doesn't change, and the icon in my system tray keeps having that little ball move back and forth (really annoying). I can get around it by opening up the connection and then going to Properties and simply clicking Ok. The network adapter then gets the status of "Connected", but I don't think that I should have to do this... Does anyone else have this symptom, or is my computer just wierd? This is a fairly fresh install of XP-SP2 and I'm (as always) pretty sure that I don't have any wierd crap on my computer. Thanks in advance.

I'd try re-applying the AS5, but this time, not spreading it and letting the pressure from the heatsink do that for you. This is the way that I've always done it and it usually comes out much cleaner in the end. Have you checked that you're getting enough power from your PSU? That can have some strange effects on a system.

Nope... no built in utilities wil do this. It wasn't really Microsoft's intention for people to hack their files and want to replace the standard ones with their own... Although you can get around this with the simple Replacer. It's actually a batch file... so you could say that it is a MS app in a way...

Either that or replacing the original and the dllcache copy in Recovery Console (that's what I do ).

This will interfere with WiFi connections. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not necessarily. Wifi bands are actually 2.412-2.484GHz (depending on where you live). Most cordless phones actually lie just under 2.4GHz. The term "2.4GHz" is just a name for a frequency range that companies are allowed to use for wireless data transmission. With proper setup, you shouldn't get any intereference.

He said he tried in safe mode. I think the file is still loaded and in use, regardless of the fact that there are no themes loaded.

The problem with trying to copy directly into the system32 directory is (a) the file is in use and (b)WFP will replace the file with the original if you did manage to replace that copy. And as for where you can get it...SEARCH!!!

How did you try to replace it? You should use the program Replacer to replace system files that are currently in use.

Check under Device Manager to make sure that Windows isn't turning off the device (or powering it down) to save power. It should be under the Power Managment tab of the device properties.

I think it's actually shell32.dll. I think they're under the bitmaps section of the file. Don't quote me on this, but I remember reading that somewhere.

Logitech G5 Logitech G7 Both look really pretty. The hotswappable battery packs of the G7 is a really cool idea as well. The only thing that worries me is that they claim internet forward/back buttons, but I only see a back button in the pictures. There's also talk of the MX610 coming around the corner...

Glad you figured it out... but your description still isn't clear...providing a one line example still doesn't help much. A codebox with your installation file(s) would be a lot more helpful. Are you referring to batch files? RunOnceEx? RegTweaks?

You need to set the boot sequence of your BIOS to have it check your CD-ROM drive first. When you first turn on your computer (before Windows loads), press either DEL or one of the F-keys (typically F2 or F10) to get into BIOS. Refer to your laptop manual for more info on this. And if you're going to install an older OS, I'd use Win98 instead of WinME. Or... if you're really advenutous, look into Linux. There are some distros that work beautifully on older hardware.

This is the way that I did it... (to remove the Search entry) Open up Menu->204->1033 and delete the following lines: POPUP "Sear&ch", 520, MFT_STRING, MFS_ENABLED, 0 { MENUITEM "", 65535, MFT_SEPARATOR, MFS_ENABLED } Click on Compile Script and then save the file. Use a program called Replacer to replace the original explorer.exe file in the C:\Windows directory. Follow the same guidelines to remove other entries from the menu. After that, you should be set.
