Dude... get off the "GHz bandwagon". You cannot compare the clockspeed of one processor to another. To give you some examples - The Pentium-M CPUs that are clocked at 2.16GHz out perform P4's @ 3.6GHz (non-HT mode) in most apps. My Athlon XP 2000+ is clocked at 1.66GHz, while my friend just bought a Sempron 2600+ which is clocked at 1.6Ghz... go figure.

I suppose... but then again, I've heard that we're only supposed to have 30MB of webspace from my university... and I've got well over 120 MB of pictures up there... Haven't got any complaints yet... B)

I never really thought of the IRC channel of being an "I'm bored, let's chat" room. The first thing that came to mind is exactly what prathapml said.

I'd recommend leaving the pagefile on the Windows partition if you've only got one drive. If you think about the situation for a second, you'll see what I mean. Lets say you set it up as Crash&Burn suggested. Then, the read/write head of the hard drive has to seek farther each time that you want to access the pagefile, since it is physically located farther away on the disk. Since most access to the page file is done when you open large programs, it means that the read/write head has to move back and forth between the pagefile and the files you need to access to open the program. As for the size, set it to Automatic and do the following test. Open CacheMan and go to the "Info/Overview" page. Run every single "large" application that you can think of that you'd run at any one time. Exit all the applications and have a look at your Highest Pagefile usage. Set your pagefile to max=min=1.5*MaxValue. My rule of thumb - If you've got 1 drive, put the pagefile on the system partition. If you've got two drives, put one on the system drive and one on the first partition of the second drive (set the drives to work on separate IDE channels).

For the IRC channel, I don't think the original intention would be to have people who would idle in the chatroom all day. My guess would be that it would be more for help in areas where it's a bit like And so forth. Topics or settings where it's a guess and check situation (hardware for example) or where it might be helpful. Re: torrents I'd seed all the ones that I find useful... My computer's running 24/7. I think that it would be useful as an alternative. In a topic, post a link to the torrent (blatantly obvious link) and the direct download (which you can find in an obsure corner of the post), and encourage users to download from the torrent if possible. It may not always be as fast as a direct download, but it'll take some load off the MSFN bandwidth. You could also set up the MSFN server to act as a seeder to ensure that one always exists.

Just another note - You can edit the permissions for each share from the security tab in the folder/drive properties. Another option for you would be to create a shortcut to a particular computer. Enter \\<name_of_computer> as the target and if all connections and settings are proper, you should be able to connect directly to that computer.

Nope... XP Gold didn't have support for USB 2.0. That came with SP1. At the time of XP's initial release, the specifications for USB 2.0 weren't complete, so MS decided to leave that out for the time being and add that functionality in later.

Hmm... I might just be a n00b to this whole "Filter" thing as opposed to codec packs... I've added this to my UA CD, with the filterpack placed in \$OEM$\$Progs\Media\FilterPack. I edited the install_all.bat file to use CMDOW and I removed the pause at the end as well (make it UA) - all the actual work is untouched. Is there anything else that I need to do in order to view DivX movies? I've tried using The Killer Bean 2, but WMP gives me the error that it can't download the codec. I thought that with filters, it shouldn't need codecs... no?

Why do you need a "complete" example? It's all described in the first post very clearly. There's a sample INI file and the command for installing it as well... The options in the INI file are set to 0 or 1 depending on what you want. Simple as that!

This is just bizarre...I've done exactly everything as per the guide (several times) and I still don't get even an option to cache the installer files. The check box in the last window of the installation page doesn't exist, just as if I had performed an administrative install (which I haven't). I've used tCP's batch file to perform the post-cabbing clean up. When all is said and done, the final directory for CD1 is 399MB and the install works as normal (installs without errors) except for that annoying little non-existant check box.

The great thing about batch files is that they can easily be run from anywhere!!! I've got a collection of freeware apps that I carry around on a CD. When it comes to installing it on a friend's computer, just run the batch file. It's pretty much the exact same directory structure/files that I add to my UA CDs. The only difference is that it comes with a readme file for what each program does...
