  1. Ah... I see. I was just messin with ya. I've said before that I'm curious to see how this turns out. Maybe when I've got time (dunno when that'll be), I'll give it a shot to see how it turns out. And yes, that is a pretty killer system.
  2. Oh... so that explains why you try to make XP as small as possible...
  3. Once more... 1.1.7.1!!! Whoa.... B)
  4. It's batmeter.dll (I think) or something like that. Bitmap 301 (that much I know). Have a look in the XPize section for the bitmap that XPero uses in XPize.
  5. Awesome - A continuously updated XPized system! Great work XPero!!!
  6. Good lord! That's a big voltage increase. Either lower it in BIOS or replace the PSU.
  7. Sure it is. It produces sound - just at a much lower and narrower frequency range than your average speaker.
  8. You buy 5.1 speakers, meaning that you have 1 center, left, right, and 2 rear speakers (total: 5), as well as a subwoofer (They call it .1 for some reason...). Think home theatre.
  9. Nah... I don't know how to do that yet... but it would suck to hear about... "Ani...You're breaking my heart...." *sob*
  10. I like the one about the laundry...

HAHA.... My co-workers just asked me what was the matter when I laughed out loud at that...
  12. Or WinKey.
  13. Yes... There is. Give it time and don't pester him. He'll probably release it eventually (99.9% sure).
  14. You actually probably wouldn't want that. Tablet PCs are meant to be used for extended periods of time to collect notes and write documents. You definately don't need the power hungry 7800GTX or A64-FX parts in there... Centrino and onboard video do these babies just fine. My friend's convertible gets about 6 hours with wireless turned on.
  15. Why do people recommend moving the pagefile from the system drive? It sounds like one of those "organize to improve efficiency" tweaks, that doesn't really have much thought behind it as to how things actually work. The second two points are completely valid though. On my laptop, I've got 1GB of RAM, and a 1GB pagefile (max=min=1GB) on the system partition. On my desktop/server, I've also got 1GB of RAM, but I have 1 system managed pagefile on the system partition and 1 system managed pagefile on the secondary drive. The two drives are on separate IDE channels, mind you, otherwise I wouldn't see any performance benefit from two pagefiles whatsoever. Let me tell you... I ask a lot from my server that has two hard drives connected via PATA, but it keeps up just fine. B)
  16. I just think it's somewhat silly to suggest a very expensive OS without mentioning the hole that it'll burn in their pocket. Well... one viable option when it comes to Server 2003 is to do what I do - use the trial version and then reinstall every 6 months. Set up a good UA disc and you're set!
  17. None... I'm broke.
  18. It's annoying because I don't like being treated like a thief when the software I have is 100% legit. Same goes with "genuine advantage". Just one more thing to annoy the legal users and make the illegal ones laugh...& on the thread topic - personally I like Server 2003. I've used every other "modern" version of Windows and it offers the best blend of compatibility with stability & speed. Sure, it's a server o/s, sure it's not made for gaming, but I'll take it any day over XP. It also comes with the benefit of not having as many hotfixes to download once you install it. Try to look at it from the other side. Microsoft loses millions of dollars per year on pirated copies of Windows. They've released certain software that is only available to those people who have actually purchased Windows. Not to mention that once you've activated, it takes copying two files over from your previous installation to avoid having to activate again. A whole 2 files!!! Lets say you go to download SyncToy. You go to the website - they check to see if you've actually bought it - you pass - you get to download! How on earth does that make you feel like a theif? They're giving you the right to download something extra once they know that you've actually paid them. For most of the pirates out there, they don't get to download. I really don't get this argument at all... And as for your recommendation, sure, endorse more piracy. Server 2003 Web edition is $399 and Server 2003 Standard edition is $999. Just another way to laugh I guess... Just to be somewhat helpful for the orignal question - Win2K or Linux.
  19. Did you even read what RogueSpear had to say? He admitted that Intel CPUs may not be quite as fast as AMD... I've never had any really horrible experiences with either side. My first computer was a P4 1.8GHz (Northwood) - a Dell. I've always known Dells to use Intel products - there's some sort of partnership there... Anyways, it worked just fine. My second computer was my laptop. Pentium-M 1.4 Ghz (the one I'm using right now). Obviously, for the Centrino logo to hold true - Intel mobo. Any crashes that I've had on this thing are due to my own stupidity. My third computer was an AMD Athlon T-bird 1.33Ghz. It had an ASUS mobo... can't remember what chipset. Then I upgraded it to an Abit mobo with the nVidia nForce2 chipset, and later to an AthlonXP 2000+ (it's current config). No troubles there. It's running 24/7 as a file server and crunching away at my girlfriend's SETI@Home project. 100% CPU usage all the time. Although jcarle did tell me once that he found a piece of software that simply wouldn't run on AMD CPUs. It was the software that would manage a CD organizer (connected via USB). On Intel CPUs, worked just fine. On AMD CPUs, it simply wouldn't run. No error, just nothing.
  20. Hard drive. No question. Most hard drives draw at most 2.5W. Optical drives are 7-8W on average. When reading from a DVD, there is usually a buffer on the hard drive to accomodate for switching layers in dual-layered discs, so you'd probably be using both if you were to read from the DVD.
  21. First off - That search box at the top of the forums is of great help. Simply searching "Integrate SP1" would probably have got you the information you need. Secondly - Integrate SP2. There's not much reason not to. Thirdly (and to answer your question) - follow the instructions here to slipstream SP2. For the rest of the hotfixes, check the Unattended Windows section or have a look at nLite. Welcome to MSFN.
  22. The 5.1 Surround Edition was mostly a joke (5.1 surround sound - get it?).
  23. Alrighty...This one may not be all that functional, but it's pretty cool IMO. I'm probably gonna look more into the graphical stuff you can do with Samurize, but I've got more on my plate now, and I'm not at home that much anymore... Clicky to make biggy The visual style is called Sentinel Beta by ChaNinja. You can find it at DeviantArt. But wait... there's more!!!!! A picture doesn't do it true justice. Check this out! That's right... B)
  24. Whoohoo!!!! Winamp 5.11 Lite Winamp 5.11 Full Winamp 5.11 Pro Winamp 5.11 eMusic Plus Enjoy everyone!!!
  25. Yup... the VM has plenty of free space on the hard drive (3.5GB should be enough.. right? ) I'll give it a shot on a real computer tonight though. We'll see if that works. *crosses fingers*
