Why do you need a "complete" example? It's all described in the first post very clearly. There's a sample INI file and the command for installing it as well... The options in the INI file are set to 0 or 1 depending on what you want. Simple as that!

This is just bizarre...I've done exactly everything as per the guide (several times) and I still don't get even an option to cache the installer files. The check box in the last window of the installation page doesn't exist, just as if I had performed an administrative install (which I haven't). I've used tCP's batch file to perform the post-cabbing clean up. When all is said and done, the final directory for CD1 is 399MB and the install works as normal (installs without errors) except for that annoying little non-existant check box.

Curious...why preinstall applications at all?
Zxian replied to -.-PhanTom-.-'s topic in Application Installs
The great thing about batch files is that they can easily be run from anywhere!!! I've got a collection of freeware apps that I carry around on a CD. When it comes to installing it on a friend's computer, just run the batch file. It's pretty much the exact same directory structure/files that I add to my UA CDs. The only difference is that it comes with a readme file for what each program does... -

Samurize can do this for you. It can be set up to display this information on the desktop with no taskbar entry, no tray icon, etc.

Silent install for UXTHEME.DL_, SFC_OS.DL_ and TCPIP.SY_
Zxian replied to Niktareum's topic in Application Installs
Oh... you want something that you can just give your friend that will silently patch the files? If so, I don't know of a program that will do all three. -
Or possibly, if a specific user is unable to use BitTorrent, then they can request an upload to YouSendIt or similar services. No wait times, up to 1GB file size, and a temporary solution. Alanoll's just being the realist here...

Silent install for UXTHEME.DL_, SFC_OS.DL_ and TCPIP.SY_

If you want to apply them to your system, use Replacer. -
And they're at it again!!! "1.1.6.1 was released to address a crash issue when the settings were missing." - Source *jumps up and down with excitement*

Even if the developers have their own web hosting, if the entire community would be seeders for the projects here, it would distribute the bandwidth needed across a great network. Remember a few months ago when RyanVM's site went down because he exceeded his bandwidth? He'd never run into this problem now! When 1000 people all want to download 100MB of files... that's a lot of bandwidth to pay for....

That depends. Some installers have a switch that will allow you to specify where to install the program. Others that use an MSI will allow for a special file called a transforms file (extension .MST) to specify the installation parameters. Included in this file is the information on where to install the program. A silent install can be set up to install the program just the way you would normally, if you know what switches and parameters to use.

Silent install for UXTHEME.DL_, SFC_OS.DL_ and TCPIP.SY_
Zxian replied to Niktareum's topic in Application Installs
Patch the files in advance and then use makecab to compress them. Use modifype to correct the checksums. After that, it's simply a matter of copying them in the i386 folder on your CD and you're done! -
I think that for torrents you could submit the torrent to a mod/admin so that they could then host the torrent on the tracker. If the torrent is found to contain illegal/pirated software, then the mods/admins could take necessary action against the user (warning/banning/whatever).

So I'm a criminal for paying for software that costs money... I'm confused. I thought the criminals were the ones who used priated copies? And as for the price, hundreds of dollars, eh?? Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition OEM *No HW Purchase Required.* - $97.99 CAD = $83.07 USD = 69.11 EUR Microsoft Windows XP Professional OEM *No HW Purchase Required.* - $155.99 CAD = $132.258 USD = 110.04 EUR Self-destructing coaster? I think that most people on the boards will agree that the majority of problems that users experience are PEBCAC. If you don't like Windows XP, use something else. Sorry for going so off topic. I'm just skeptical at your statement about it only being about activation. Like I said before, that's usually the case of someone who can't activate. And Linux can play games quite well. They just need to be run in Wine or installed as the Linux package. AFAIK, prathapml plays UT (forget which version) in Linux.
-
Geez... 99.99% of the people who say that they don't want to "deal with activation" actually mean that they can't get past activation. If you want a free OS that doesn't need activation, go for Ubuntu or Suse.
-
The only part that would really affect your activation would be the motherboard. Otherwise, simply change one piece of hardware at a time and you'll be fine. If you don't want to activate each time, there are two files that you can copy over during your install (forget which ones) to preserve your activation info.

Notepad++ 0 or 1? (better binary value)
-
Yes for both! I'm just wondering about the tracker - Would that be only for MSFN member projects(nLite, XPize, etc), or could it include other smaller projects such as NCAB, Winamp MSI, or Acrobat Lite installer?
-
Hmm.... Ok. I've got CD1 done and re-cabbed. I've got a total size of 399MB. Is this the same as what others have? I've attached a listing of my directory structure just to make sure that what I've got is what I'm supposed to have. I'm still not able to get the cache to work. I've replaced the regular setup.exe with the enhanced setup to allow for the ENFORCECACHE=TRUE option, but when I copy all the files over into my VM and try to install, I still get no cached installer anywhere on my harddrive (i.e. the msocache folder doesn't exist and the option to save the cache is gone). files.txt

An application switch allows you to specify options to a program when it is run. For example: msiexec /i Setup.msi /qb The /i switch tells the program msiexec.exe to open the Setup.msi file. The /qb switch tells it to install the program with the default out any user interaction. A silent install is when a program installs without you having to click "Ok" or "Next" or anything. It simply runs and when it's done, your program is installed!
