  1. Can someone confirm if using the GPMC tool to create backups would mean the back up can ONLY be used for the same domain name or can it be used to restore the backup to another domain or not? Thanks
  2. When i try to connect to my server via RDP i for some strange reason get the following error "because of a protocol error, detected at the client (code 0x1104) this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again" Ive tried several things by connecting to the servers registry and adding values as indicated at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q154596/ (which was advised by a friend) but still no luck anyone know what to do?
  3. I THINK this maybe achieved by double clicking the user and setting your time restrictions - not sure if you can do this over a group as im not by a Windows Server

  5. looking at your setup and from what you said if you can connect to your router's home page that would mean your routers configuration is incorrect - you need to change this to your servers address but leave the default gateway the same on your PC(s) Hope ths helps
  6. Is this a Dell machine if yes try http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;310794 (remember to backup your registry and use it at your own risk) If not try this and see if it resolves Boot into Safe Mode Start > Run, Type regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll Press OK (wait for message the registration was successful) Start > Run, Type regsvr32.exe licdll.dll Press OK If that doesnt work either - THEN REINSTALL (joke) 1. Start > Run, Type Regedit > Press OK 2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents Highlight it and click File - Export (to back it up) 3. On the right pane double click OOBETimer. Carefully change just the first byte (to say 00) 4. Copy Windows\System32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak to a different folder, then delete them from System32 Then try activating - if it doesnt work then restore the reg file you saved earlier before trying any other steps.
  7. My guess would be to remove the redirection on the Start Menu to see if this does anything different - may not but just a guess

  9. If you stop Automatic Updates you can delete ALL the folders contained in the SoftwareDistribution folder (then restart Automatic Updates)......Ive not come across any problems doing this and believe it should be safe to delete.
  10. First ensure you have succesfully removed SP2: boot into RC (use your XP disk). Change your command line to c:\windows\ (if its not already) type: cd $NtServicePackUninstall$\Spuninst {Enter} batch spuninst.txt {Enter} exit {Enter} dont type {Enter}. If that recovers your system them go to add/ remove programs and remove (if it exists) Windows Xp hotfix 824141 - reboot If that fails then...... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545

Thanks
  13. I would agree with Klasika - let Active Directory install DNS for you its straight forward once youve assigned your static IP add for your server
  14. I want to be able to see ALL the changes that i make in my GPO and see the effects it has on users etc - is there a quicker way to do this rather than logging on to the client itself to check what changes its made? Thanks
  15. I'd check your redirection again to make sure - i had this problem and it was the folder path that was causing the problem
