It was so many years ago that I almost can't remember. I was looking for a decent firewall that met my needs and really monitored all connections. I had tried many, and the firewall from Sphinx convinced me completely.

They had different names in the past, for example Vista Firewall Control and Windows 7 Firewall Control. The first part Windows 10 shows the OS which was current when releasing the firewall, and the suffix XP that this version is still XP-compatible. New Windows OS, new name (but they are still compatible to older OSs). For me, it doesn't matter. Important is the product and not its name, though. And the last version for Windows XP is simply great.

In my Windows XP system, I changed a lot the last years but one thing will stay forever: Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP. I tried many different firewalls but this one is definitely unbeatable. I like to have full control about all network and internet connections in both directions, incoming and outgoing. Even in terms of the system core applications. All new applications the firwall is not aware of will be blocked by default (can also be set differently). Cheers, AstroSkipper

If you read my article about Windows 10 Firewall Control XP carefully, you'll notice that I've already mentioned it. FYI, the main difference between free and paid version is all Windows system services and programs (System Core Applications) can be controlled only in the Plus (paid) version. All other programs and application services can be managed in the free version, of course. In my article, you will find a picture with a comparison of all editions under the section Features.

No, you are wrong, unfortunately. You can leave the native Windows XP firewall enabled, but Windows 10 Firewall Control (Plus) XP is a standalone. All data traffic, both incoming and outgoing, is perfectly controlled. You can define your own zones and rules. Many zones and rules are already pre-defined. You have full control at all times and can see exactly which program wants to connect, only if you allow it, of course, and again, in both directions. I use it for many years, and Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP never failed.

uBlock Origin can now be updated to the version 1.49.2! I changed the minversion in the file manifest.json of uBlock Origin 1.49.2 from 79.0 to 68.0. Doing so it can be installed in the new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. Here are two screenshots: As you can see, I already tested uBlock Origin 1.49.2, and it seems to be working properly in the new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. The filter lists have been updated flawlessly, and I can't notice any problems. Cheers, AstroSkipper

May be you know why even not 78 but 79 I have overrided minstrictversion to 79 for the fun, and latest ublock 49.2 seems works fine Very good idea! I will also test uBlock Origin 1.49.2 in my installation. If it really works without compatibility problems, that would be a sensation. @feodor2 I tried this method but only changing Services.vc.compare(version, minversion) to Services.vc.compare(79, minversion) didn't work for me. uBlock Origin 1.49.2 couldn't be installed that way. I tried another approach. I changed the minversion in the file manifest.json of uBlock Origin 1.49.2 from 79.0 to 68.0, and doing so it can be installed in your new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. Here is a screenshot: I tested uBlock Origin 1.49.2, and it seems to be working properly in your latest Mypal 68.13.0. Cheers, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
With the more recent versions of New Moon 28 (for example the latest from 2023-05-12), Rapidgator doesn't work for me. The problem is the captcha. Here is a screenshot when I use the same useragent like you: : -
@feodor2 I assume you mean this error which occurs when clicking onto the button Settings: Right? In any case, clicking this button leads to this error shown above in the console, and the Connection Settings page can't be opened. The problem starts to occur in your new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. I checked the previous pre-release 68.13.0 and the version 68.12.5. Both are working fine. I compared the file subdialogs.js to the old ones and nothing has changed. Unfortunately, I can't find your typo but I am sure you already know where it might be located. Anyway! Just FYI! @feodor2 Thank you very much for the hint! I already had a look into this file (nomen est omen) but without an idea or syntax checker, a superfluous quote is not so easy to find. Anyway! I already fixed it, and now it's working fine here: Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper

In my first post, I already explained that. The last working firewalls will be listed here, of course. A firewall does not need necessarily updates if it still works properly in Windows XP. I know Outpost Firewall very well, I used it long time ago. Therefore, it is on my internal list of security programs. However, I must mention here that I have already presented the by far best firewall for Windows XP, and, compared to all the usual suspects, this is definitely Windows 10 Firewall Control Plus XP from Sphinx: Cheers, AstroSkipper

All information about Malware Hunter is here: There you can see: System requirements: Runs on Microsoft Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, XP and Vista. Including both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Conclusion: it should run under XP 64. Cheers, AstroSkipper

And may I kindly ask where you want to open tabs if the tab bar is turned off? That does not really make sense. Tabs are opened horizontally or maybe vertically by using an extension. That's the way this browser works. If you need more space to read a web page, you can use the full screen mode with the F11 key. I know that for example in New Moon 28 you can toggle the visibility of the tab bar but I never used or needed it. BTW, most features of the legacy browsers can also be retrofitted in Mypal 68 with the help of userscripts with the extensions *.uc.js or *.css. Have a look for example here under custom buttons: Kind regards, AstroSkipper

For every desired feature, there is a solution in the form of an extension. But my tabs will stay horizontally. I am a creature of habit.

When I am back on my desktop computer, I will check whether KB2686509 was installed in my system or not. @we3fan FYI, KB2686509 contains the file kblChecker.dll and is described as a Keyboard Layout Check. It was installed in my system on 21.07.2012.

Generally, I would tend to agree to your suggestion but in my case that would only be a measure if all alternatives failed. My Windows XP partition is very complex and full of special settings. It has grown over years and setting it all up again would also take years if I could remember everything perfectly. The current error only affects this particular program Quick Startup, so considering reinstalling is not really an option for me. BTW, this affected partition was created in 2004. Since then, I have never had to perform a new installation on this computer. I have a sophisticated imaging system and can revert to an older state at any time. However, according to my nature, I am interested in what the actual problem is. I like to solve all problems myself in order to have full control and to constantly expand my knowledge. Many errors are of a recurring nature, and a new installation would only be a temporary solution. I have a large archive of problem solutions that specifically affect Windows XP. So I can fix these errors very quickly. Some error solutions are designed by me and cannot be found on the Internet.

Thank you very much, @we3fan! That's a confirmation I really needed. Unfortunately, I have to conclude that there is indeed a problem in my Windows XP partition (with all POSReady updates). And it doesn't seem to be related to the POSReady updates themselves as I assumed. Therefore, I have to investigate that again and this time much more deeply although I already did a lot of fixing and cleaning. Anyway! Great job! Thanks again for all your efforts!

Another appeal! Is anyone here in the forum using Windows XP SP3 (32 Bit) Professional, fully updated including all POSReady Updates on real hardware without any virtualization (not running in a VM) like me? If so, please read this post for doing a short test of Glarysoft Startup Manager or Quick Startup! A screenshot of the main window showing application and Windows services would be very helpful! Thanks in advance! Greetings, AstroSkipper

@feodor2 I already tested different websites in your new pre-release. My Windows XP hardware is very old and logically weak. Therefore, I notice every little change in the speed of page loading. Your current pre-release loads all pages much faster. Everything is much smoother. I am thrilled.
