So what? It's is slipstreamed like any other update. To be sure I've just tested it to confirm my thoughts.
-
Yo're right. It seems that I forgot to add ocsasnfix.exe to the Polish and Italian versions of the Rollup. It doesn't cause any errors when slipstreaming but you're installing it in a running system so ocsasnfix.exe is required. It's just a fix in case you use any of the applications listed here. Please unpack the Rollup, download ocsasnfix.exe from the link above and place it in the root directory of UR2. Then please try running update\update.exe and see what happens. You can unpack it from command line using /X switch but you can also just use 7-Zip or any other archiver.

They should be slipstreamed like any other update from HF... but someone should check if they're not already included in MDGx's True Type Fonts (TTF) Pack (which is also slipstreamed from HF ).
-
Well, as you're saying now there are no problems with displaying all partitions properly. Although I did like the idea that you don't have to click on anything to get the information You can't choose where on the screen the message pops up, or can you?

The freezes are back but this time I actually have something to suspect. I'm almost sure that they are caused by Comodo Firewall 2.4. I still want to do more tests to be absolutely sure but I guess I need to look for a different firewall application. I've just looked at http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php and out of the free ones Malware Defender is said to support Win2k so I'll try it and see what happens.

How to install Windows from USB- WinSetupFromUSB with GUI
tomasz86 replied to ilko_t's topic in Install Windows from USB
KDiff3 is also good for comparing folders and text files. And it's free There's also an explorer plugin for it. -
I added a new update (thanks to bristols for this one): MS10-063 Vulnerability in Unicode Scripts Processor Could Allow Remote Code Execution Windows2000-UU-KBz2288621-x86-Global.exe usp10.dll 1.626.6002.22402 It replaces 981322.

AeroGlass theme with Green (active) and Red (inactive)
tomasz86 replied to GMugford's topic in Customizing Windows
There is a theme called "Classic AE" which makes Windows 7 look classic while still having the useful features of Aero. Although its colours aren't exactly the same as Windows Classic theme, it seems to be the only such a theme available. I believe the current version is 2.5. It may not be exactly the thing you're asking for, though -
I also prefer Windows classic interface to the colourful stuff but taskbar grouping is one of these functions that I find quite useful, especially when I have lots of folders open at the same time. Someone wrote an application to add this function to Win2k (tbmod2k). It probably won't work in 9x but can someone at least try to run it?
-
Well, I really like the simplicity of it Would you mind sharing the version you're using now? I wonder if it's possible to have two partitions listed in one line, ex. C: 5000 / 10000 MB | D: 5000 / 10000 MB E: 5000 / 10000 MB | F: 5000 / 10000 MB etc. At least 5-6 partitions could be displayed by doing so. Of course it's not the ultimate solution but probably better than the 2.5 lines (3 partitions) displayed now
-
Wouldn't it be possible to reduce the number of letters used for each drive? Ex. Now it's Drive C:\ 8408,96 MB free of 12001,65 total MB What if you make it C:\ 8409MB of 12002MB total or even simpler C: 8409 / 12002 MB Wouldn't more partitions be displayed then?

Re: Windows 2000 Professional boards/chipsets
tomasz86 replied to trimis's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
The topic should be in the other forum but in case of Windows 2000 (thanks to BlackWingCat's unofficial drivers) it should be actually possible to support probably all of the current mainboards. Of course there may be problems with peripherals such as integrated HD Audio, LAN, etc. but in case of main chipsets and graphics (AMD, Intel, NVIDIA) there should be no problems with finding drivers. -
Hmm, the problem seems to be gone although I don't really understand how and why... Firstly, I did test RAM some time ago but no errors occured (6+ hours of MemTest86+). The problem with console was still happening. Finally, I decided to reinstall everything using the other mainboard and the final configuration is like this: To be sure I set the cmd script to run for a whole night in a loop and very surprisingly no problems occurred. I also have it running at the moment too and no freezes! I don't really know how it can be because on almost the same configuration before the problem was occurring very often... I'm far from being too enthusiastic about it but at the moment everything seems to be stable so... I'll make a copy of this partition and install rest of the needed programs, etc. and see if anything changes. The cmd.exe, wow32.dll and ntvdm.dll used at the moment are the default 2K ones.
-
Could you recommend good and reliable copy managers which could replace the default one? I've tried many different ones and can't really find anything fast and reliable enough... I'm using SuperCopier2 at the moment but it's buggy, i.e. freezes sometimes when copying large numbers of files and it seems to be a bug in the program itself (it's mentioned in the Net several times too). I've also tried using TeraCopy and while it's stable, it's also incredibly slow when copying small files which I do a lot. I've tried also some others which I don't remember names now but neither of them fitted my needs I'm looking for a manager that completely replaces the default one, so I'm not interested in the "on-demand" ones. I don't really need such advanced functions as CRC checking, etc. but basic functionality such as pausing/resuming and being able to see and remove items from a list of files to be copied would be welcomed... If you know about any good applications (better than SuperCopier2 or TeraCopy), please write about them in this topic!

Windows 2000 on AMD 790GX/SB750 & 890GX/SB850 motherboards.
tomasz86 replied to Phenomic's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I have a problem with BlackWingCat's graphic drivers (I hope he reads this this topic ) and PAE. They just simply don't work! There's no problem when PAE is disabled but as soon as I enable PAE and reboot, the screen doesn't show up. Monitor just goes off after bootlogo. Everything starts working properly only if I disable PAE again... I tried both 10.x and 11.x vesion of the drivers but there's no difference -
I tried it few days ago and I liked it. It would be really nice if more partitions were displayed... Is it not possible to increase the limit of characters?
-
I see I use REPLACE\i386 to replace these files instead of HFEXPERT so that's the reason I saw the message.
-
I found a few problems in the 2K version: KB951748-v2 <- it's for both Professional & Server (it says "not for server" now) IE_W2K_4.CAB, WAB.CAB <- the explanation that you should extract the two files from them to HF\EXPERT doesn't mean that these cabs are not needed!! Other IE/OE files are included in them too! You mustn't remove them if you slipstream IE6/OE6.
-
You can insert them as any other addon in nLite or HFSLIP

There are almost 300 updates/hotfixes on bristols' page It's hard NOT to get confused... I prepared a script which you may find useful. updatever.cmd You can use it to create update.ver automatically. Files from root directory and (if exist) files from uniproc, wms & xpsp2_binarydrop are processed. Useless files (spmsg.dll, spuninst.exe, empty.cat) are ignored. Files without version are also properly listed (instead of A=B,C,D they go A=B,,D). 1. Place updatever.cmd in an empty folder & run it once. Two folders (HF & TOOLS) will be created. 2. Download, unpack & copy into TOOLS these two files: fciv.exe (download) and filever.exe (find & download). I haven't tested newer versions of filever.exe so I can't say whether they work or not. The one I use is 5.0.2134.1. 3. Unpack updates like this: 4. Run updatever.cmd. This is an example created for 2393802-v8: [SourceFileInfo] bootvid.dll=93a240abe57c7fff70217094c6ef31da,00050000087C0003,11360 kernel32.dll=60959fe454a2d22d916b5ea7b2fa50cf,0005000008931BF2,764688 ntdll.dll=56edaaa97265f14f9831a0b85ef6180a,0005000008931BAB,531728 ntkrnlmp.exe=085676dc6cbf24978b6540d223ccd9d6,0005000008931CD5,1961024 ntkrnlpa.exe=d14dafcbf3d1b7ae4b78451217caee73,0005000008931CD5,1960096 ntkrpamp.exe=e2d0c621099d41b90fe342f942b65d90,0005000008931CD5,1982336 ntoskrnl.exe=ee0f8d6a9272446d4a08ae58aa9067cb,0005000008931CD5,1937376 win32k.sys=982892466636b2178dc978cfbad2dd10,0005000008931CE9,1670896 uniproc\kernel32.dll=2302eab80f89e66f13053b873b1c2d35,0005000008931BF2,764688 uniproc\ntdll.dll=56edaaa97265f14f9831a0b85ef6180a,0005000008931BAB,531728

WildBill, there is v9 of MS11-012 available already Could you add the newest win32k.sys to it instead of making a v7? EDIT Now I saw your comment in the last line of #454. Well, it's up to you I guess because after all, it's your patch In my opinion the best way to go is to have only one updated version for each update. EDIT2 Actually, if I remember correctly, v6a should be almost exactly the same as v9... the only difference being that v9 adds also registry changes from 967715 & 2286198 (details).

If you decide to use OnePiece's update pack then there's no need to integrate. NET Framework & DirectX 9.0c separately as they are already included in the pack. Check this topic for details.
-
If you're knowledgeable about nLite then it shouldn't be a problem to make your own "edition" Updating your original source isn't very difficult. First integrate SP3 and then rest of updates. You can even use OnePiece updates pack if you're lazy. Both SP3 and the update pack can be integrated in nLite.

Last Versions of Software for Windows 2000
tomasz86 replied to thirteenth's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
As far as I know, Avast still supports Windows 2000, although unofficially. Some time ago there had been an update which broke compatibility with Win2k and after a few days it was fixed. As for other free Antivirus programs, Avira doesn't support Windows 2000 any longer. I personally switched to ClamWin and use it to scan only suspicious files on demand. By the way, the situation is similar with Dropbox which officially is supposed to work on XP and above only but unofficially is supported under Win2k too! -

Have you tried renaming NDP20SP2-KB2418241-x86.exe to NDP20SP2-KBZ2418241-x86.exe? As for KB982168, you need to recompile it first (see this post).
