  1. I'm considering stopping realisng single updates. I'd rather focus on a update rollup which would have all unofficial updates included. There are several benefits it: 1) Easy to manage and update. 2) Easy to test compatibility with different configurations of W2K (IE5, IE6, WB&BWC kernel, etc.). 3) Easy to install and slipstream (1 single package instead of tens/hundreds of single updates). 4) It's possible to add single files not belonging to any particular updates or files from XP SP3, etc. 5) Managing all these single updates is too time consuming. Could anyone share his/her opinion on this idea? Of course it'd be a temporary solution until I manage to finish the USP6 project (still LONG time to go...).
  2. Do you remember which applications had problems when XP's comctl32 was used? What exactly happened?
  3. It will be enough but you must take into account that the less free space HDDs/SSDs have, the worse their performance is. Wouldn't it be better to buy a 60GB one and have some space not only for the OS but also for applications? There shouldn't be that much difference in price between 40 & 60 GB.
  4. By the way, the new browseui.dll from 2483185 removes your new 32-bit explorer icons (arrows, favourites, etc) which you added in 2479628. There's also one more thing about 2479628 - it has Comctl32.dll 5.81.4968.2505 but the XP comctl32.dll 5.82.2900.6028 works too when your kernel is installed. Installing it however breaks the 32-bit icon support inside explorer so icons have black background. It'd be nice to be able to use XP's comctl32 (more APIs than 2K version) and keep 32-bit icons support... Would it be very difficult to implement?
  5. WildBill, Would it be a problem for you to update your 979687 using the newest shlwapi.dll from 2483185? The new one lacks SHRegGetValueW and wordpad.exe from XP doesn't run anymore.
  6. Thanks Parseus I still have some problems: obsolete: HF\Windows2000-UU-KBz2511455-v2-x86-Global.exe (MS11-019: SMB client, Applicable only with KB980232) I added my version of 2511455 and the result is like this. My 2511455-v2 replaces both 983458 & 980232. missing (S): HFSVCPACK_SW1\Windows2000-DirectX9-KB975560-x86-ENU.exe (MS10-013: Quartz) not found (U): HF\Windows2000-DirectX9-KB975560-v2-x86-ENU.exe (MS10-013: Quartz (corrected version)) These updates are covered by DX9c Full Pack. obsolete: HF\IE6.0sp1-KB834158-x86-ENU.exe Why is it so?
  8. both? do you mean HF\WindowsXP-KB2647516-x86-KOR.exe and HF\IE8-WindowsXP-KB2647516-x86-KOR.exe? Yes, you should! Thank you but if both non IE8 and IE8 versions are needed then why is it: ?

Thank you for such a quick response Where can we download the new version?
  10. Thanks BlackWingCat I'll test your kernel and tell you if something doesn't work properly.
  11. Thank you very much. Strings.exe worked. Unfortuantely none of the URLs is still valid (as expected). I uploaded 4 updates: IE6.0sp1-KB2482017-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe Windows2000-KB2483185-x86-custom-ENU.EXE Windows2000-KB2347290-x86-custom-ENU.EXE MDAC281-KB983838-x86-ENU.exe These are NOT unofficial updates. There's also 2416400 available but it's replaced by 2482017. 983838 for MDAC is the same update as 2419632 (MS11-002) for XP and the unofficial 2419632 made by WildBill.
  12. Are you sure it's necessary? HFSLIP will slipstream any update even if you name it abcd.exe unless its structure is non-standard.

Thank you for the new release today, Parseus I have a few comments & suggestions: missing (S): HFCABS\SCRIPTEN.CAB (IE install files) This one is not necessary if script 5.6/5.7/5.8 is used. missing (S): HF\IE6.0sp1-KB982381-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe Superseded by 2416400. missing (S): HF\Windows2000-KB975713-x86-ENU.EXE Not needed if 982381 (both ie5 or ie6) or 2416400 is used. missing (S): HF\Windows2000-KB976323-x86-ENU.EXE This one is likely to be buggy (see bristols' list). not found (F): HF\Windows2000-KB822834-x86-ENU.EXE Obsolete. not found (F): HF\Windows2000-KB838417-x86-ENU.EXE This hotfix is buggy. Would it be a problem to point it out somewhere in the log? I'm not using it on purpose. not found (F): HF\Windows2000-KB840129-x86-ENU.EXE Not present on bristols' list (?) not found (F): HF\Windows2000-KB884872-x86-ENU.EXE This hotfix can't be slipstreamed (and installed) properly (details), neither from HF nor HFSVCPACK_SW1. I plan do make a fixed version sometime but now it's unusable. not found (F): HF\Windows2000-KB983458-x86-ENU.EXE Superseded by 2511455 not found (U): HFSVCPACK_SW1\Windows2000-XPSWIC-x86-Global.exe This one is still quite experimental. I plan to make separate packages instead of one big package. not found (U): HF\Q886677.exe Likely to be buggy (see bristols' list). obsolete: HF\IE6.0sp1-KB834158-x86-ENU.exe Why obsolete? unknown: HF\Windows2000-KB841029-x86-ENU.EXE unknown: HF\Windows2000-KB901377-x86-ENU.EXE Why are these two unknown? wrong (O): HF\wmp6cdcs.exe (WMP 6.4 codecs, it's for WMP6) I'm not 100% sure about this one but can't these codecs be slipstreamed regardless of whether WMP9 is used or not? missing (S): HFSVCPACK_SW1\Windows2000-DirectX9-KB975560-x86-ENU.exe not found (O): HF\directx_feb2010_redist.exe I know I shouldn't ask for it but would it be a problem to include DX9.0c Full Pack? It has all of these updates included and newer libraries from DX9.0c Jun2010 are used in it. Thank you once again for keeping this updated and still going on
  14. Great As for IE8-WindowsXP-KB2647516-x86-KOR.exe, this is my full log: ----------------------------------------------------------- Running HFSLIPFC v.2011/11/16 at N 2012-02-19 14:04:32,81 ----------------------------------------------------------- not found (O): HFGUIRUNONCE\messenger.msi (Windows Messenger 5.1) not found (O): HF\Windows-KB909520-v1.000-x86-KOR.exe (Base Smartcard-Cryptography Service Provider Package) not found (H): HFSVCPACK_SW1\windowsxp-kb976002-v5-x86-enu.exe (Browser-choice for EU-countries) not found (O): HF\WindowsXP-KB905474-KOR-x86.exe (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications) not found (O): HF\WindowsXP-KB2647516-x86-KOR.exe (Empty dialog when opening 'Organize Favorites' from Windows Explorer) Found MS09-053: FTP Service for Internet Information Services (HF\WindowsXP-KB975254-x86-KOR.EXE): For KB975254 you need HFSLIP 1.7.10 beta D or newer Found Security Advisory 2269637: Library Loading (HF\WindowsXP-KB2264107-x86-KOR.exe): Read KB2264107 how to set the new registry key CWDIllegalInDllSearch to change the behavior of loading DLLs. Should I include both?
  15. Mim0, links for "WindowsXP-KB2264107-x86.reg" & "WindowsXP-KB2264107-x86-XXX.exe" are the same and this: even though I use IE8 and have "IE8-WindowsXP-KB2647516-x86-KOR.exe" in HF. @EDIT and gdiplus.dll 5.2.6002.22509 from KB2412687 isn't slipstreamed. It'll probably have to go to HFSVCPACK_SW1.
  16. And it's not even 100KB size
  17. Could anyone help me to filter URLs from this file? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15391619/Windows%202000/1.txt They seem to be dead but still it'd be nice to test all of them in wget. I've been trying with batch script FOR /F "tokens=4 delims==" %%I IN (1.txt) DO ECHO %%I>>2.txt but can't make a loop for unknown reason (at least unknown to me )
  18. You're right, the distinction is not that strict You can use these updates for pro too. And I think this LLSCUSTOM.DLL is not needed at all. There are some real Server only updates on the bristols' list though, especially among HBRs.
  19. By the way, Mim0, why does 'SmartCard_XP_x86.exe' have to be renamed to 'WindowsXP-KB952013-x86-XXX.exe'? Is there any particular reason for this?
  20. I found all of them: MS10-061_Windows2000-KB2347290-x86-custom-ENU.EXE MS10-090_IE6.0sp1-KB2416400-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe MS11-002_MDAC281-KB983838-x86-ENU.exe MS11-003_IE6.0sp1-KB2482017-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe MS11-006_Windows2000-KB2483185-x86-custom-ENU.EXE All have M$ digital signatures so I'm 100% sure they're official. Still haven't got time to test them. @EDIT What's interesting that ex. 2483185 doesn't fix shell32.dll (as it's in case of the XP version) but it rather fixes a different file - thumbvw.dll 5.0.3900.7440. I'll need to have a closer look at them when I've got time. I guess there might be some incompatibilties with some of the currently used unofficial updates.
  21. 2657025 replaces 2633952.
  22. I managed to find the official M$ version of 2347290 (the so called custom update). It has spoolsv.exe 5.0.2195.7425. I'll upload it later on after testing it.
  23. Haha, it's not mine I just found it somewhere in the Net.
  24. SetDllDirectoryW is available in both unofficial kernels (WBv8 & BWCv5 or higher) so the easiest way would be to install one of them. The other possible way is to change dependencies with KDW.
  25. PAE won't work in 2K Pro anyway... but still you shouldn't see any BSOD on boot because of it. Can you try in different VM (VirtualBox or MS Virtual PC)?
