Strange because PAE works here (Athlon II X2 255). What's your Windows 2000 edition?
-
Is your CPU single- or dual-core?

By the way, isn't the speed dial feature used in many browsers basically the same thing? In order to open a new page you need to close/minimize the current one or open a new tab to do it... I use Opera but I don't think it's different for others. It DOES make sense on a tablet (I've got one) where you need as much screen space as possible.

Here is a nice article about the development of Windows UI.

Wouldn't it be possible to (try to) transplant Shadow Image Copy Service to Windows 2000? Has anyone tried? I still use Innotek VirtualBox 1.5.6
-
Any similarities ?

For .NET Framework I recommend OnePiece's True Addons (.NET 1.1 & .NET 2.0) as they are the only ones that can be integrated directly (no T-13 installer). Their installation process is also much faster. They're compatible with HFSLIP too (HFAAO folder). 1. I don't really know that much about UniATA but I'd suggest selecting 2K compatible drivers only from the DriverPacks package and integrating them through nLite. 2. FDV fileset is probably the best method of removing IE from W2K. I'm not sure if it's compatible with other language versions of Windows but you should give it a try. Unfortunately his site doesn't work at the moment so I'm linking to the Google cache

x64 Edition Updates Until 2015?
tomasz86 replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Right I thought that there are differences in [Version] between 2K3 and XP x64. That's why I talked about editing the update.inf. -
x64 Edition Updates Until 2015?
tomasz86 replied to Jody Thornton's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Yes but you can't do it directly. You need to extract the update, edit update.inf and "patch" update.exe. Unfortunately I don't know how to patch the update.exe for x64 :/ -
The files will be overwritten anyway so you don't need to uninstall the older patches.

Free AV / Firewall for Windows 2000 Server?
tomasz86 replied to tomasz86's topic in Software Hangout
Avast can't be updated in Windows Server anymore. You can still install it using the method mentioned in #2 but there'll be a warning that it's not supported on a Server when trying to update. I managed to find a different AV. Rising Antivirus Free Edition supports all editions of Windows starting from Windows 2000, including Server editions. I installed it here and no problems so far @EDIT I didn't notice that I already mentioned this one in the first post Still it seems that they fixed those problems related to instability as it seems to work unproblematically now. -
You should unpack the unofficial English update and replace only MDAC files (in the files folder if I'm correct) with their Italian counterparts To repack you can use this method.
-
You can still find it here.
-
Hello brutus 1. Msconv97.dll is language neutral so you should just use the English update. For slipstreaming you don't need to change anything but if you want to install it in Italian Windows you may need to extract it, open update.inf and change LanguageType = %LangTypeValue% to LanguageType = 0x0 2. It's the same fix as KB919521. I don't know if you still use the Italian UR2 but if you do then the same fix is included there too. 3. Yes, I think so I don't have enough time to test it here but you should download the unofficial KB927779-v2 (ENU) and two Italian official updates - KB927779 for MDAC 2.81 & KB927779 for MDAC 2.53. Next you should replace the English files with the Italian ones, and finally use updatever.cmd to update the update.ver info.
-
Using update packs is definitely the easiest way to get your source updated. If you want to play with single updates then HFSLIP is a better choice than nLite. HFSLIP can directly slipstream almost everything while nLite is much more limited. This site may be the best start for you.

3DMark06 runs here but it may be because I'm using some XP's dlls instead of the 2K's ones. Running it on my computer is quite pointless though as I've only got integrated GeForce 7025 anyway
-
RonCam, could you run a GPU benchmark (maybe 3DMark06?) under both systems and compare the results? I think it may be interesting I'm not sure if '06 works in Win2k... If not then maybe '05 or '2003?

Install IE8 on 2003 without Windows Update?
tomasz86 replied to GrofLuigi's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Is is the same when you try to install it on a clean system? Now the installer detects that there was IE8 installed previously. I can't see any visible errors except for this Installer return value: hr=0x00000000 Have you tried installing it in Safe Mode? By the way, is it the only log file? I think there should be also ie8.log present in %windir%. -
You can run the app very easily if you change dependencies of the .exe file... If you don't want to do that then you'll have to wait for BlackWingCat's answer to know if it's possible without modifying any files.
-
pcclp2004, you may want to play with the "rplbfile.exe" which is included in the TOOLS folder of KDW. By using it you can change dependencies manually. Of course you ought to be very careful when doing it!
-
You're right I changed it to Arial Unicode MS and everything is displayed correctly now.

erpdude8, as already discussed in the other topic, there's no problem running Firefox 13 nightly in Win2k with unofficial kernel installed

Usbser.sys 5.0.2195.7006 comes from KB838417 which itself is buggy.
