  1. One more update: MS11-? Security update for Windows Fax Cover Page Editor MFC components Windows2000-UU-HBR-KBz2584577-x86-Global.exe mfc42.dll 6.2.8092.0 mfc42u.dll 6.2.8092.0 It's a HBR and replaces 2506212.
  2. Thank you for all information about these updates I'll try to update the list for .NET 2.0 and also add .NET 3.5 updates as soon as possible.
  3. I added some new updates. MS07-?: SetupDiGetDeviceRegistryProperty function returns an incorrect RequiredSize value on DBCS characters in Windows 2000 Windows2000-UU-HBR-KB888609-v4-x86-ENU.exe MS07-? A microcode reliability update is available that improves the reliability of systems that use Intel processors Windows2000-UU-KB936357-v4-x86-Global.exe MS11-090: Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Kill Bits Windows2000-UU-KBz2618451-x86-Global.exe The first two are recompiled versions of updates made by BlackWingCat. The third one (2618451) replaces 2562937.
  4. There's some error on MediaFire... I re-uploaded the file but there's still the same error I uploaded the file to Megaupload and updated the link to it on the RyanVM board.
  5. Well, a I said before, the only two parts which I didn't change is memory and CPU. I've already tested the memory and no errors occurred and unfortunately I haven't been able to check the CPU as I don't have any replacement. In the beginning I also thought that it might be a hardware related problem... Anyway, the problem is gone so I'll mark the topic solved
  6. No, I don't use USP5 or HBRs at the moment and I'm absolutely sure that it was Comodo 2.4 to cause this problem because everything has been fine since I uninstalled it on Dec 8. As for the hotfixes themselves, I wouldn't be so sure that most of them are bugged (even if some really are like the USB related ones), ex. there are hundreds of them included in Update Rollup 1.
  7. WildBill, I have just two questions/suggestions for you 1. What do you think about making a v10 of 2479628 (MS11-012) which would include all changes done by me (v9) and you (v7). Having two versions of the same patch is confusing and v9 is already included on the bristols' updates list. Do you have any objections against it? If not, I'd like to ask you to do it or (if you're busy and don't have time) I can do it myself. 2. What do you think about making multilanguage updates? Up to now I've prepared multilanguage versions of some of your updates separately but I'd be probably much better if one update was made by just one person to avoid any unexpected issues. Checking if the update is multilanguage is pretty simple. You must just check the same update available for some other language and see if the file included is the same one (its langauge version will be English or "language neutral"). If it is then it means that it's interchangeable between different language versions of Windows and one update can be made for all of them. You just have to edit update.inf like this: [Strings] LangTypeValue = 0x0 After doing so the update will install in any language version of Windows. The installer will be in English but it doesn't matter at all. 3. I'd like to ask you about unofficial updates' filenames. As you've probably noticed I use the following scheme: Windows2000-UU-(HBR-)KB(zX)XXXXXX-x86-XXX.exe By doing so it's clear what kind of update it is by just looking at the filename. It's extremely easy to separate official and unofficial updates and HBRs thanks to it. Adding the "z" before 2 in KB2* for new updates makes them listed at the end, after the older ones starting from 8/9. What's you opinion about it? I know you've sticked to the official M$ filename style but wouldn't it be better to have unofficial updates clearly distinguished from the official ones to avoid any misunderstandings? These are just my proposals I just believe that it would be nice to have some kind of "official" structure for the UUs. Please share your opinion about them.
  8. No problem... These HBRs are really sneaky PROBLEMCHYLD, That RDP 7 is broken. I think I wrote about it on the RyanVM board... It opens but you can't connect anywhere because nothing happens when clicking on the button. Does it work for you?? I removed it from the list of updates some time ago.
  9. By copy manager I meant a replacement for the window you see when copying/moving files in Windows Explorer. It should display details about files being copied, their size, time left, etc. It should also allow you to pause and resume the transfer if necessary and also display and allow modyfing a list of files to be copied. That's basically what I need ^^
  10. Well, I'd prefer to use the newest software as possible when it comes to FW & AV I've been testing this Malware Defender for a week and it seems to be fine, and indeed Windows 2000 is officially supported! It is probably the only one among the currently available free firewall software to support Win2k. Oh, and NO freezes have occurred since removing the Comodo Firewall
  11. I'm very sorry for such a late reply. I actually managed to install the application in Windows 2000 using KDW and setting OS version to XP SP3 in fcwin2k.exe. The real problem is that there are a lot of dependencies missing, not only the one related to iphlpapi.dll. The dlls from KDW won't be enough to fix them because they lack some functions which are required by the program. I'll try to play with some dlls copied directly from XP and see if it's possible to achieve something. At this moment I'd say there is no more than about 20% chance that it'll run under Win2k.
  12. The system seems to work again... and W2K hotfixes are still there
  13. Thank you for confirmation... I hope they aren't "reorganizing" (=removing) the HBRs for older systems Fortunately I've got most of the 2K hotfixes on my HDD, but only their English version.
  14. Thanks WildBill I prepared a new version of the update.ver making script. It now works not only for updates but for service packs too! It supports only Windows 2000 at the moment but I plan to make it compatible with both XP & 2003. Now you don't even have to unpack updates - you just have to place them in HF. Unpacked or not, they'll still be processed. I also greatly improved the speed of it and made it more "pretty" (files which are being processed are now displayed on the screen). You can download it here. The URL is the same as before.
  15. For 2-3 days I've been getting this message when trying to download any HBR from M$ site: Could anyone confirm? Is the system really down? Has anyone got any more information about it?
  16. Thank you for checking & finding the cause of this problem. Until you can find a way to solve the problem (or not?) I'll stick to the message box version
  17. I had tried Gavotte with UsePAE=1 too but it didn't change anything when PAE is disabled in the system itself. As for the driver, I've already written in the other topic about it but the issue with this driver is actually much more complicated. The newest version of it (11.x) causes a BSOD when running a cmd script (I already mentioned it here a few months ago) so I tried both 10.x and 9.x and they don't have that problem. On the other hand, the PAE issue is present regardless of which version (9.x, 10.x, 11.x) I use. My intuition says that it may be caused by the driver itself, not necessarily by the BlackWingCat's 2K adaptation of it. Of course I won't know it for sure until BlackWingCat tests it himself. The funny thing is that now, when I've already solved the freezing cmd problem and I'm 99% sure that it's not hardware related, I can just switch the mainboard to the other one I own which has the same socket but is based on Nvidia chipset with integrated GeForce graphic card. There are no problems related to PAE with that one (and official drivers actually work with 2K so there's no need to use any unofficial version). Switching mainboards and reinstalling the system will take around 1-2 hours so it's probably much more efficient and economical than spending days fighting with this thing Thanks for trying to help me anyway
  18. I hope this report will be fine 1. When PAE is enabled I can use all 8 GB RAM without problems. Even by using Gavotte RAMDisk I can make a 4 GB ram based partition and use it smoothly. 2. I cannot use /PAE at this system because graphics driver (BlackWingCat's Catalyst drivers) does not work with PAE enabled. 3. I tried using awealloc but the situation is the same as the other person had in that topic ("Not enough storage is available to process this command"). Even with awealloc enabled I can use only the available amount of RAM (3.668 GB out of 8 GB installed) for a ram drive and cannot exceed the 3.668 GB limit. I know that "normally" most of these applications would work because I did run them successfully when PAE was enabled. The problem is that I cannot turn PAE on because the graphics driver won't even start after reboot. That's why I want to try something different. Out of the software available, as far as I see, only Ramdisk Plus uses a different mechanism to access the memory not recognised by the system but it doesn't work in Win2k.
  19. No problem In fact I want to make one more version of UR2 which will be available in all 24 supported languages. Initially I wanted to make a Service Pack but it's an impossible task to do for a one person and quite risky too (there are some differences in included files depending on a language version) so Service Pack will be available only in English and (maybe) in Polish. I don't want to update the current rollup as it has some bugs which can't be fixed without totally reorganising the structure of it. I guess it will be better to start everything from the beginning and make sure that all bugs are eliminated. I'm using a much safer approach now which doesn't involve merging registry entries coming from each update into a one big single section but instead I have these entries listed for each update separately so they are processed serially. This time I also won't include any IE updates because it's impossible to mix IE5 and IE6 ones together and there are problems with both WU and SFC related to them.
  20. Hmm, it's still almost the same as before... When taskbar is higher, the situation is exactly the same (the window is "covered" by taskbar) and when taskbar is normal it shows up to 3 partitions now.
  21. Actually I've tried many programs already and none worked (I saw that topic too). That's why I'm writing here. Is Ramdisk Plus the only option? It doesn't work in Windows 2000 so it's not for me anyway This is what I tried: Gavotte Ramdisk ImDisk Vsuite Ramdisk and tried to install Dataram RAMDisk and Ramdisk Plus but Dataram's configuration program won't start (the driver itself seems to work) and in case of Ramdisk Plus even though I tried to play with dependencies the driver does not start.
  22. I think I had already tried all of them before but I did it once again today and (unfortunately?) SuperCopier2 is still the best... CopyHandler is actually similar as for functionality but SuperCopier2 has much clearer interface and you don't have to open the program from tray to see a list of files to be copied and manage them, as it's in case of CopyHandler. In SuperCopier2 everything can be seen through the main window while CopyHandler's visible window is extremely limited. In the end I'll probably stick to SuperCopier2 but I'll try to play with its buffer settings, hoping that it may have some positive effects on its stability. Thank you for all these recommendations anyway
  23. I have a short question... Is there any ramdisk software that allows using of additional (unrecognised) memory under a 32-bit Windows but with /PAE switch not enabled? I'm asking because the graphics driver here doesn't work with PAE enabled.
  24. Well, I only tested the slipstreaming process to see whether the files are unpacked and replaced correctly, didn't actually try to install Windows. I use ramdisk for this so it doesn't take very long time.
  25. Actually it doesn't work properly now 1. I normally use "two-lined" taskbar and I get this: 2. When taskbar is slim then I can see this: Still it only shows two out of four partitions. It's Windows 2000 here.
