Its not on the Critical list, only recommended. This update gives Windows XP Home/Pro support for the new IPv6 protocol. It will be included in Service Pack 2, but if you're using an ISP or services that use IPv6, then you will need this update installed.

Is this named as winnt.sif and placed in the i386 folder? Again, does everything else in winnt.sif (apart from product key) take effect or not?

right, the only bad thing I can spot is you're using an underscore _ instead of - in the product key line. Does everything else work fine apart from the Product Key?

its only switchless if you provide the switch when creating the package in iexpress, but since the end-user directx 9.0b doesn't allow silent install switches then you can't provide one in the iexpress wizard.

Messenger Plus! will allow you to have a custom away message. Only other users with Messenger Plus will see it, but those without will see it as {Out to Dinner} or something similar.

this may have something to do with %Windir%\Documents and Settings\ as that stage of setup usually can't find that folder, and tries to access it as C:\Documents\ instead (probably to do with the spaces). It happened with a wmp8 update that wanted to access Documents and Settings too.

I think its Q817778.exe as GreenMachine mentioned in another thread. Remove that entry and try Setup again. If you really need that installed, do it from a batch file in GuiRunOnce
