  2. Place both the ini and the bmp in $OEM$\$1\system32\ That's all there is to it
  3. I've no idea why people use screencapture tools when Windows Print Screen does exactly the same thing perfectly well. :/ Hypersnap is useful for taking screenshots of video playback that uses DirectShow though (which Windows cannot do), that's the only good reason I can give for Hypersnap.
  4. IMPORTANT! If you downloaded KB828035 (Buffer Overrun in Messenger Service Could Allow Code Execution) before October 29th, 2003, then please re-download this update. More info @ http://www.MSFN.org/comments.php?id=5879 Thanks to techtype for pointing this out!

  6. Here's an up-to-date list of hotfixes I currently have, you may want to check the byte sizes with your hotfixes to check they match, so you know you have the correct one: 369,504 js56nen.EXE 1,992,832 Q330994.exe 5,319,000 Q816093.exe 433,952 Q823182.exe 346,400 Q824105.exe 2,728,544 Q824141.exe 2,226,304 Q824145.exe 305,248 Q825119.exe 2,908,808 Q828026.exe 365,152 Q828035.exe

    Max Payne 2

There could be a Max Payne 3 because the developers have registered www.maxpayne3.com
  8. 824145 won't install properly if you are installing 828750 as well. 824145 supersedes 825750, so you should remove 828750 if you're using it.
  9. My way of doing it is to install AV applications last in the batch.
  10. Sorry I might have worded that wrong! I meant "no" as in "no you don't need 828750 when you have 824145"
  11. No, because its 'cumulative', it carries previous fixes.
  12. You're right, I misread the wrong section of the technet article apparently. Fixed.
  13. New Update added to the list! November 2003, Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer If you're wondering why "Buffer Overrun in the Workstation Service Could Allow Code Execution (828749)" hasn't been added, its because this is for Windows 2000. Windows XP's update for the same flaw was released under KB828035.
  14. I haven't got a copy of Win98 handy atm, but according to a Knowledge Base Article: Here are some articles I found: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=214727 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/...rt7/wrkappd.asp
  15. There's no solution, it actually works for a few who have mentioned it, but they didn't say how exactly they got it to work. My tip: install 817787.exe in GuiRunOnce instead. Besides, you don't need this update if you install WMP9.

    Max Payne 2

You'll have to change the controls again in the Options, its called "Shootdodge".
  17. Its a patch for all Windows Media Players, however if you install this for WMP8, then install WMP9, the patch will need reinstalling, as I have discovered.
  18. Don't run Q817778.exe in svcpack.inf
  19. have you checked to see if setup.exe is a compressed archive containing a bunch of files, including another setup.exe and a setup.iss?

    Max Payne?

I actually thought about that too, they could make a movie on Max Payne using fighting elements from The Matrix (the slow motion, bullet dodging etc) No idea on a good actor for Max Payne though! (err. Keanu Reeves? )
  22. Some people are unable to get their IE&OE patches installed for some reason. I don't know why to be honest. When I did the Update Rollup tests, I used a very basic winnt.sif, 2 hotfixes in $OEM$, no apps or tweaks, and a clean Windows XP SP1 Disc. The only other thing I can suggest is you can try getting both of those patches installed from GuiRunOnce instead, it shouldn't be a problem, as some people install hotfixes from GuiRunOnce and have reported no problems.
