problem with windows live messenger
DigeratiPrime replied to scandalous1au's topic in Software Hangout
Can you see if this happens with the web messenger, so we can get an idea of which side the problem is occuring on: http://webmessenger.msn.com/ -
You changed the boot order so 'USB-HDD' was before 'HDD'? Also you might need to enable 'USB Legacy Support', not really familiar with your mobo though. Make sure the drive is formatted FAT32. Additionally I think its possible on some motherboards to have a mix of USB ports that are bootable or not. Since the problem isnt really Memtest but getting your computer to load it I am moving this topic to Hardware Hangout.

DVD Video/Audio disk creation and OSCDIMG
DigeratiPrime replied to heustess's topic in Software Hangout
Hello, just want to first ask if you've looked at ImgBurn (freeware)? I've never had any problems burning DVDs with it, it also supports write queues and has cvars. -
I am in the process of testing different solutions, so I am undecided. I would add mention of Netsupport Manager, its pretty decent imo; not free though.

So this machine otherwise works fine? Do you have another motherboard with the same type of memory slots you can use to test the memory with?

Ok I am having trouble understanding your post. When you say start button you mean the power button on the physical chassis of the computer? When you say 'fun' you mean 'fan'? btw the beep sound would come from a pc speaker, not the cpu, and your case may not have one. I am moving your post to Hardware Hangout, because this doesn't sound like a software problem.

CRC Verifycation Utility, Version 3.00
DigeratiPrime replied to heustess's topic in Software Hangout
I had to check, PE Explorer shows the Real Checksum (real) and the Link Checksum (header) and can update the latter to match. Of course it does much more than that -
I would agree but OP said "don't even think about mentioning using Vista as an os" I havent tried it, but I would think its possible to install the MEDIACTR.CAB on XP x64. I'll try it out and let you know how it goes.

CRC Verifycation Utility, Version 3.00
DigeratiPrime replied to heustess's topic in Software Hangout
Is there a specific need for that software? I personally use the HashTab (freeware) shell extension for comparing hashes http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/ -
Glad you figured it out. I was going to suggest using Process Monitor, which succeeds FileMon and RegMon, as it combines the features of both and adds many new ones. You can make Process Monitor act just like RegMon and take advantage of non destructive filtering etc.

I've been meaning to investigate the feasibility and hopefully implement BIOS updating via WinPE. I know Intel provides automated installers for its motherboards which simplifies things, but for the other manufacturers (AMI and AWARD) I planned to dump the BIOS ROMs and use a cmd line tool with cvars for flashing. I am planning on creating a HTA menu and maybe some logic for identifying and selecting the correct ROM file automatically. Its a different approach but I think we share the same problem. It would be convenient for me to have my partitioning scripts, image files, and bios updates all from the same environment and menu, easy to maintain/update, and conveniently loaded via PXE.

Here is another Visio diagram, this time of my home network Note I am working on changing some things: upgrading the switch to something like the HP ProCurve 1800-8G, moving my wireless access point to the other WRT54GL running DD-WRT, moving the PS3 onto the newer switch, establishing a Bluetooth link between my printer and laptop, upgrading the cable modem, and adding a firewall between my modem and router. I am running several VM guests on my desktop too, which I might update the diagram to show later.

Since NT, Windows interprets BAT and CMD files equally, so you can just rename the file extension. IIRC .bat will be handled by command.com a dos application while cmd files will be handled by cmd.exe a native win32 (or x64) app. And COM is for dos binaries compiled using assembly language.

Ideas: Attach both monitors to one pc, and view the other through Remote Desktop. Script the reinstall process or just figure out what keys you need to change, possibly using Process Monitor. Purchase a cheap KVM.

Great post Ponch :-) Audio CDs are basically WAV files, which are not 'encoded', however their quality can differ based on resolution (bit), number of channels, and sampling frequency (Hz). They are burned to an audio cd as tracks on the disc and therefor use space directly proportional to their length in time; there is no filesystem or files like on a data disc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Book_(audio_CD_standard)

Looking for themes for Sony Ericsson W880i

So basically you want it to automatically login to your user account and load your profile, but then immediately lock the computer, so you can go do other things while it is booting up? Have you considered using Sleep or Hibernation mode instead of turning the computer off? You could have Windows autologon an account and then have a startup script that immediately locks the computer, then you could come back and log in. Otherwise I wonder if there is a way to load a user profile without loggin in...

If you use DOSBox I highly reccomend this front end. It also makes DOSBox truely portable! HOME http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/index.html CHANGELOG http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/ChangeLog.html DOWNLOAD http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/Download.html

Windows Mail is the successor to Outlook Express included with Windows Vista, and it is only available on Windows Vista. Microsoft seems to be moving towards 'Windows Live Mail' as its successor too. Mozilla Thunderbird is an free, opensource, multiplatform email client; you can install it on anything it has been compiled for such as Windows, Linux, and Mac. It is extensible, meaning you can download addons to add new features and themes that can alter the appearance subtly or completely. You can also get a 'portable' version of Thunderbird that you can travel with you on a thumb drive for example. I would highly recommend Thunderbird. I cannot see any reason to use Windows Mail or Outlook Express instead.
