I am using Vista Ultimate x86 SP1 and want to hide the built-in Administrator account from the logon screen but still have UAC show "Prompt for credentials". Unfortunately the following registry tweak seems to affect Secure Desktop globally... Is there another way (GPO?) to achieve the effect without the problem shown below? [EDIT] This even happens with "All elevation requests will go to the interactive users desktop" Enabled before tweak after tweak

virtual machines and MAC addresses
DigeratiPrime replied to Professor Frink's topic in Software Hangout
Just use NAT mode for the network adapter in VMware. from the manual -
Use AutoRuns and view the entries in the 'Logon' tab to see (almost?) all possible startup locations. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx Note that in this screenshot below 'Include Empty Locations' is not enabled.

Multiple Remote Desktop Sessions with Vista x86 x64 RTM SP1
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Windows Vista
Thanks for the news, I've updated the OP. -
You need to have the Secondary Logon service running in order to use 'runas'. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? You have a game that has sound in XP but not in Vista, so you want to copy the old decoder into Vista to see if it works? BTW you can definitely script this, but I am not sure if it will be necessary. You need to use 'takeown' and 'icacls' for example:

Personally I've been using the wallpaper in this pack for almost a year now http://uribaani.deviantart.com/art/De-Freu...n-Pack-59203774 I usually recommend InterfaceLIFT; though there are some nice ones but not many at http://socksoff.co.uk/walls01.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Roadrunner I think we should have a challenge to see what is the most powerful machine we could pack into a single chassis. Here is my attempt at the most power single machine, not sure what job would need such a thing though

Annoying burning errors with Nero
DigeratiPrime replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Software Hangout
So your using the LG GGC-H20L with TDK DVD-RW media (TDK601saku)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16827136133 http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmedia...arch=TDK601saku Is this a new disc or a used disc? How fast are you burning the disc? 4X? Try lowering it. Inspect the "bottom" of the disc to look for anomalies in the dye. I am not sure if using XP 64bit would cause a problem with Nero, but I suggest you also try ImgBurn. Here is a review showing positive results with that drive and DVD-RW media: http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/LG-GGC-H20...erformance.html There is a firmware update available for your drive that is supposed to improve "writing quality" (compatibility): http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp The problem seems to happen when writing the lead-out: -
nice little app, works well. Wish it had a one sentence description of each app and a preview link it would download from. But I still prefer to download manually because I prefer zip packages instead of installers.

Remote Access to Private IP Address
DigeratiPrime replied to sandy978's topic in Networks and the Internet
It sounds like you want a VPN. Just want to clarify one thing, on the LAN you need to use Private IP addresses, while over the Internet you need to use WAN IP addresses. -
Remote Access to Private IP Address
DigeratiPrime replied to sandy978's topic in Networks and the Internet
Hey sandy978 welcome to MSFN If you have the default RD port forwarded on your router to the pc you can access it by putting the WAN IP into remote desktop e.g. "192.168.xxx.xxx". To access a network share on the local network you can use the UNC path without the port e.g. "\\192.168.xxx.xxx". Hope that gets you started. -
Cheers Cluberti!

If the extension just manipulates the data inbound to your pc but does not redirect it first through a proxy then it probably has not been intercepted by another party. Like crahak said the extensions are open source, javascript only I think, so you could scan through them to see how they work. Also like crahak said you could check that the packets are coming directly from Google in this case and not from some "man in the middle". Web Messengers like Meebo though, do "borrow" your password in order for the service to work, but they disclaim this in their Privacy Policy.

very nice list crahak, happy to say I use most of the same tools biggest thing I see no one has mentioned: regex otherwise here are some apps I also consider handy: AntRenamer, ReNamer Event Log Explorer Everest WinMerge, Araxis Merge XYplorer There are a ton of network related tools I can think of, but I like to seperate Sysadmin from Netadmin.

Hmm if there is a problem with the kernel Microsoft would know about it. You might be infected with some sort of Malware that is hooking or patching the kernel and causing this problem. Can you post the relevant Event Log or Crash Dump for analysis? Also understand that you can only have one active connection with an account and cannot sign in simultaneously from other locations or programs. Try running some of the software on this page to detect if Malware is on your system and if so attempt to remove it http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal...pyware_Scanners Welcome to MSFN

Those images are just GIFs inside egui.exe with text overlayed on them. Have you tried restarting the process to see if they appear? Just end task and run it again. Does this happen all the time or after a while. Are you running Windows XP Home RTM, SP1, SP2, or SP3?

Easy way to fix .MPG or .AVI video files? VLC doesn't play files
DigeratiPrime replied to 212121's topic in Software Hangout
Although you have the full file size due to pre-allocation and not sparsing, most of the bits are zeros. You can view some of the video due to having some I frames, but are missing most of the I, P or B frames. Take a look at some of these programs: http://www.radioactivepages.com/index.php?docid=asfbin http://ds6.ovh.org/drp.html http://divfix.maxeline.com/divfix.html http://www.avipreview.com/download.htm -

Using 1.4.5.5 now and got a regression I noticed with an previous build where some services are set to disabled but post-setup are still set to automatic. This applied to the 'Cryptographic Services' and 'Task Scheduler' services.
