Flash problem in Mozzilla browsers
DigeratiPrime replied to Ludwig Von Cookie Koopa's topic in Software Hangout
Blocking flash is not a big deal imo; Google for instance does not use it and they are the biggest in web advertising. The site owner will lose money but you can click on the other ads or subscribe or support the site in other probably better ways anyhow. You really cannot blame Youtube for using Flash. Many sites use it and most people IMO prefer it over proprietary plugins like quicktime or wmp. -
You need a VC1 splitter and decoder. MediaPlayerClassic should tell you what is missing. Try using 'Media Player Classic – Homecinema' which is a fork of the MPC project. http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ It has an integrated decoder for VC1

what condition are the discs in? Are they flawless or have visible scratches? If the latter try copying from it after wiping the disc with a lint free cloth and rain-x.

MS Visual C++ Library error in Director Player
DigeratiPrime replied to GordonInc's topic in Software Hangout
these two lines in the log suggest the problem is your system does not have audio drivers installed: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{a7c7a5b1-5af3-11d1-9ced-00a024bf0407}\Default NAME NOT FOUND which is the "Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device" and HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_1986&SUBSYS_17C02017&REV_1005\4&2f67b58f&0&0001\Driver NAME NOT FOUND which is the "SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio" you can probably find the drivers for it in the Driverpack.net Sound B package. http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/DriverPack.php?pag=sb Also depending on what version of XP you are running you might need a hotfix for HD Audio. XP SP3 doesnt need this. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111 -
You could do a test and unplug the modem, or the router/switch when you try to chat. Welcome to MSFN

I think that is a shell extension used for loading a thumbnail preview and file metadata. You might be able to disable it with a shell manager or by unregistering a dll. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shell_menu_view.html

What version of windows are you using: XP, Vista, x86, x64, etc? I read somewhere the 'Print to OneNote' does not work under x64 versions.

Its probably software package you need to install to enable those keys. You can probably contact Acer and find out exactly which one you need. You can find the 3rd party software that shipped with the laptop available for download here: http://www.acerpanam.com my guess is there might be a problem with XP since Acer probably shipped it with Vista and only supports that. If an installer gives you a problem we can probably get around it, let us know.

Are you sure you are typing the IP of the Router into the address bar? Can you ping the router? What is the router model?
-
Are you using XP, Vista, or other? In Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) under the Performance tab, how much Physical Memory do you have Total and Available (Free)? Does this only happen with certain excel files open or even with new empty worksheets?

Thanks, any specific version? Both Home (Suite) and Server will work. If that's the case I think he could just use Diskpart and the 'clean' option on the disk.

Software Download for a Microsoft Sidewinder Game Pad Pro?
DigeratiPrime replied to gduong's topic in Hardware Hangout
Hey Welcome to MSFN gduong What version of Windows are you trying to use it with? XP, Vista, 32bit, etc? Look at these links: http://support.microsoft.com/sidewindergamepadpro http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270684 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download...spx?category=MK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_SideWinder BTW moving this topic to hardware forum... -
First what type of server are you using in terms of hardware and applications? what exactly are you looking for when you say network support? Emailing daily reports, constant realtime reporting, event logging, etc? Have you looked at the software listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Monitori....M.A.R.T._tools There is also Everest Corporate Edition which can do network auditing. http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.p...=CE〈=en Heat is the main cause of hard drive failure in my experience, then excessive seeking on full and fragmented disks. There was a study done by Google which IIRC found that rapid fluctuations within the operating temperature affected drives more then just maintaining a high or low non-operating temperature. [EDIT] I will need to double check my opinion, here is the paper: http://labs.google.com/papers/disk_failures.html RAID Servers can improve data life and performance IMO by distributing read/writes across drives thus spreading the usage across disks. BTW try to use drives from different batches so if they are defective they dont all fail at the same time.

This is an interesting problem Tripredacus unfortunately I have more questions then answers First I am curious why you have setup multiple sound cards in a single machine? Is it to save money and condense hardware and cabling or is there a technical audiophile reason for doing so? Why two of the PCI cards and one of the PCI-e ones? Do you want the same audio output on all three cards or is it different for each card? Does the problem your having with Winamp and Directsound happen on XP and Vista? Have you considered multiple instances of a portable player like XMplay and the ASIO plugin? BTW Vista might actually handle compatibility with Win98 applications better then XP due to all the work with compatibility shims and such; I'll will seek an expert opinion on this.

Foxconn is only guilty of negligence at the most imo, and they arent the only ones. Otherwise the "news" helped and Foxconn has improved the BIOS for the affected boards already: http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/08/02/1552226

I know Acronis Disk Director can work with hidden volumes.

So you are trying to install x64 Forceware drivers for your laptops IGP? Were you able to do this with x86 Forceware drivers? Run GPU-Z and post a screenshot of the results. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
