  1. Personally I just use NoScript, an addon for Firefox, and have it block all javascript and flash by default. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 There is also Adblock Plus, another Firefox addon, which is very effective; use responsibly. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 There are HOSTS file repositories which can be used to block ads. There is also webfilters like K9 which focus on blocking content, and not necessarily ads.

  4. I am using Defraggler occasionally, usually after initial install. I am not sure about the performance benefits, but I can notice a reduction in seek noise

  7. When you say "7000 x64" are you referring to Windows 7 Beta 1 build 7000 x64? While alternatives exist I personally discourage their use as websites depend on advertising revenue to pay for hosting fees etc. Most web browsers block or restrict popups these days and people should use discretion before visiting sites they dont trust.
  8. Can you calm down and give us some evidence of what you're talking about? Maybe a directory or file path or screenshot(s)? BTW you can always use alternative clients that understand the AIM protocol.

  10. I went from Palm, to Windows Mobile, to BlackBerry, to Android (G1) and that's what I currently use/own. However I think a Windows Mobile forum would be appropriate as these devices share much in common with Windows in terms of software and networking; the System Center Mobile Device Manager itself almost would require it.
  11. FYI: When you save screenshots use PNG format since it's lossless. Also you can use alt+printscreen to capture just the active window. FYI: Wtih Process Explorer you can increase the Difference Highlighting Duration so you have more time to analyze and take a screenshot. If you want to have a known clean computer you should format your system partition and reinstall windows. You could do a repair install or replace individual files with the recovery console but that will take more time and might not work.
  12. Recovery Disks would have been provided by the OEM for example Dell or HP. Media Center 2005 discs are available retail but not for download. I realized you could try installing MCE 2005 Update Pack 2 to see if that repairs the problems. http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/1...B900325-usa.exe Again I would suggest upgrading the OS if your machine supports it, MCE has been much improved.
  13. You also have a strange green star and check symbol to the right of the links. What web browser are you using?
  14. I see that you are German, but are you making an effort to understand our posts? Please read what a rootkit is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rootkit Post a HiJackThis log http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/to...ckthis/download You could check this location in the registry: Also here is a screenshot from Sysinternals Process Explorer showing the Threads in my winlogon.exe process (Vista Ultimate SP1 x64)
  15. I thought this was presented well: http://vimeo.com/2696386?by=PICOL
  16. I would suggest reinstalling Windows Media Center Edition if you have the recovery discs. There is just too much broken and there isnt a really easy way to repair the components. Alternatively you could upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. Or download the Windows 7 Beta 1, which is the Ultimate edition and includes the latest Media Center. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...a-download.aspx There's already an update for it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  17. I think you're referring to the Display Mode Options.
  18. Are you on a domain? Try disabling Offline Files through the Control Panel.
  19. Thanks mrpete for your consideration of my opinion I am curious though if you tried doing a custom install of the latest version without that Ad-Watch Live service I pointed out to see if the conflict with Tea Timer goes away? I just tested a Typical installation of Ad-Aware 2009 8.0.0.0 with Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6.2 in a VMware guest running XP Pro SP3 without problems. If you want to install without "Ad-Watch Live" click "Customize Installation" on the License Agreement during install. Alternatively you could install "Ad-Watch Live" but not install Tea Timer. Again I had no problem with both running but I did get an irrelevant compatibility notice when I started Spybot S&D.
  20. Automatic Updates is a Windows XP system service and has nothing to do with AOL. Try removing the autostart entries with Sysinternals Autoruns (freeware) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx Why are you using AOL?
  21. If I had Mod rights in this forum I would've cleaned up your run on paragraph and possibly deleted some irrelevant information. You talk about your hard drives and partitions, then the software you used, then your wireless connection, then back to hard disks, then new claims of leakage in other windows services, then the WHIOS information which should be in a quote box or just linked to. All in one paragraph... How can you scan with 45 known and UNKNOWN programs. Installing all that security software would probably create problems. An SSID has nothing to do with passwords or keys. MFT has nothing to do with MBR. I get the sense you are ignoring our advice on how to remove this, and seem more interested in finding the source. Well you're probably wasting your time, those IP addresses are probably from a botnet using fast flux dns. Unfortunately I am not sure I want to feed you more lingo to abuse.
  22. Yup that would be more informative, but the screenshot you posted does show an Enhanced Host Controller [interface] so now just verify its plugged into that and it should just work... For example notice my OCZ ATV USB flash memory drive:
  23. My guesses premised that the OP may be confusing what the BIOS is just in case Actually if we knew the motherboard model it would help rule that out.
  24. I know people are booting directly from SD Flash cards in Asus Eee PCs. Its going to depend on your motherboard/bios; but generally you just use diskpart to clean the card, format it FAT32, mark it active (MBR), and copy the OS to the drive.
  25. Open Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers and post a screenshot (from both systems would be nice). You need to make sure the drive is connected to a EHCI capable USB port as systems sometimes have a mix of controllers.
