UT3 2.0 Patch and Titan Pack + Steam
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Gamers Hangout
It's finally out! Hope it was worth the wait. http://beyondunreal.com/view_story.php?id=12558 Patch and Expansion are separate downloads, totaling 1.2GB downloading now... -
I gotta chime in, I got Fallout about two weeks ago and have been addicted to it. It definitely feels like Oblivion in terms of gameplay, graphics are good but should be better, music is great, combat system is different. Fallout is the best game I've played since Oblivion and it's better.

Modifying MBR to boot to second partition
DigeratiPrime replied to Tripredacus's topic in Software Hangout
Since you're using a hidden FAT32 volume anyway, maybe try the simpler SEL function instead of SELM? mbr 0 /install sel 5 11 "Press F11 to boot the recovery partition" -

Network + Exam Any Free study Guides?
DigeratiPrime replied to helpdesk98's topic in General Discussion
hello helpdesk98 please note this would be considered a warez request, which Rule #1 concerns, since it is copyrighted material. You might try contacting the publisher of the book for a replacement cd? -
I don't think we should include Linux only software, including Live CDs, like GeeXboX because by its nature almost all of the software in that domain is free and would detract the meaning of this list IMO. Similar I am leaving out Daemon Tools because it is adware and similar non adware software is available. Otherwise I've added all of the suggestions so far and the following: MSFN Member Projects Cmenu nLite UniExtract vLite AntiMalware FreeFixer Audio Players AIMP Audio Tools Musicy Burning Software DVDScribe Email Clients Thunderbird Encryption LastPass Network Tools (other) MobaSSH Tftpd32 Office Apps LyX Scribus SpeedCrunch Wink Programming CodeLite System Tools AutoHotkey Cookie Monster DMGExtractor HFSExplorer Kiwi USB Cop Text Editors JDarkRoom Web Browsers QtWeb

First make sure your VM host, aka real hardware, has internet access. Then make sure your VM has a Network Adapter; if it's Bridged give it a Static IP unless you have a DHCP server, otherwise NAT should work. Any firewalls in your network?

old news? it sounds like something did indeed happen this morning: http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/upda...ail-outage.html I use Gmail because it is convenient, but I wouldn't rely on or trust it; same goes for any 3rd party email service. [edit] check out the Gmail S/MIME Firefox addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/592

Having trouble connecting to windows live messenger
DigeratiPrime replied to Woomera's topic in Software Hangout
Does this happen on a home, work, or public computer? What version of WLM are you using? Try MSN Web Messenger and see if you experience any problems: http://webmessenger.msn.com/ -
Why use BsPlayer? It was last updated in Dec 2005 and the site seems to be offline. My guess is BsPlayer is not respecting the 'default track flag' and is hard coded to playback english by default. You can view the default track flag with mkvmerge

How to default Flash to Low Quality mode?
DigeratiPrime replied to nuSharper's topic in Software Hangout
Streaming Video taxes two resources: your bandwidth and your processor. What is nice about the flash plugin is it is available for different operating systems and browsers, sites can customize the play controls, its relatively small, and doesn't interfere with system file associations. As for passing the flv (flash video file) to an external media player, you might try these Firefox addons: Video DownloadHelper - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 MediaPlayerConnectivity - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/446 BTW be sure you always download the flash plugin from Adobes website, as some drive-by-download malware sites pretend you need an upgrade and send you an infected installer. Best free security tool
DigeratiPrime replied to NoUserName's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
IMO the best free is using the included security features built into Windows, namely using a 'User' account and requiring RunAs to elevate. This is "too annoying" for most people so Microsoft introduced UAC in Vista, among many other security improvements. The difference was it was now enabled by default per say. However people thought this was annoying and now they are scaling it back even more in Windows 7. Usually a program doesn't even need Administrator rights to run, just some ACL tweaks; again too difficult for most people. -
HP has posted the tool which will prepare a USB drive with the MIE Linux recovery image here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...346〈=en The application downloads from this FTP page: ftp://g3u0046.houston.hp.com/pub/softlib/...ll-usb-gm-1.img Just in case anyone is curious what this is: http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/...ni1000_mie.html

Hey everyone, I've updated the software list with almost every suggestion, removed dead links, added many new applications. The old topic remains linked to at the bottom of the above post, as well as an attached Excel file I am using to manage the above post. I intend to add descriptions to each line soon. Of course suggestions on software and categorization are welcome!

Guys the reason Write Back Cache is disabled by default is it can greatly increase the chance of data loss. If you have data in cache and there is a power failure that data is lost. If this happens to data that is to be mirrored (RAID 1) the volume will be degraded, and if it is to be stripped (RAID 0,5) the volume will fail. The cache is only good for short bursts, because if there is a large amount to write the cache will fill and you will have to wait, at normal velocities, for it to commit to disk. If you look at discreet RAID controllers they recommend caching but only with a battery backup.

Do you have and are interested in using the floppy method? Otherwise you will need to integrate the drivers into the XP setup disc. Or install Windows Vista or Windows 7... The topic I linked to above, Integration of Intel's SATA AHCI and RAID drivers, Guide and help for XP and W2k3 (32/64bit), really covers it all. BTW it seems they did make an Intel version of that notebook. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compaq_Presario_V6000
-
I think that laptop uses an AMD processor and an NVIDIA chipset, so those drivers dont apply. I mistakenly linked to the wrong nlite forum topic, the correct one is Integration of NVIDIA's nForce RAID and AHCI drivers, Guide and help for XP and W2k3 (32/64bit) http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=51140
-
GeForce are nVidia Video drivers nForce are nVidias Chipset drivers You should run XP Setup normally, press F6 when it prompts you to, and then insert the Floppy with the nForce drivers. You can create a customized xp boot cd with nLite http://www.nliteos.com/ These guides mention how to integrate drivers http://www.nliteos.com/guides.html http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...504&hl=sata
-
You need to provide the SATA drivers for your chipset (motherboard) when installing XP. This can be done with by pressing F6 during text based setup to load from a floppy or by integrating the drivers into the install source. I used Google to find out that the "v6000" is a Compaq laptop. Then I went to HP Support site, as they own and support Compaq series, and found nForce chipset drivers availible. http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=v6000 http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_query=v6000 http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.24.html Vista includes drivers for most SATA controllers, as does most linux distributions, so your claim that it doesn't run with any OS is greatly exaggerated. I am modifying the title of the post and moving it to the XP forum.
