4 DVD-RW Drives, Can I Burn 3 DVD's At Once?
DigeratiPrime replied to Redhatcc's topic in Software Hangout
jcarle what is the read benchmark on your raid 0 unit and what controller does it use? Also note that even if the drive is told to burn at 16X that is the maximum rate which only occurs when on the outer cylinder; however it would be wise IMO to use it as a baseline. In addition to putting the image file in a ram disk, using the OS in a PE environment hosted in RAM would probably help too. Depending on the size of the image file, 64 bits may make a difference too but I am unsure atm. -
How do I Know Who was Included in BCC?

The first result I get from a Google search -
What type of installer does your inhouse software use? How is InstallShield (MSI) unreliable?! [EDIT] I am modifying the topic title to be more informative.

Firefox and Google Chrome Crash Upon Opening
DigeratiPrime replied to Bison1's topic in Software Hangout
Current version of Firefox is 3.0.8. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html Since Chrome is also crashing you probably have some weird configuration or something interfering with those processes. You can post the HiJackThis log with "codebox" bbcode tags if you want to keep the your post short. You can also try running the browsers without addons, or booting Windows into Safe Mode. A crash dump would reveal more specific information though. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb...28VS.85%29.aspx -

Unattended Installation or Cloning/Imaging of Win XP
DigeratiPrime replied to ravisunny2's topic in Software Hangout
Imaging is much faster, the only reason to create an unattended install source is if you are frequently installing Windows on multiple machines. -

I think we might be misunderstanding each other. My point is if you sync the two folders you will have duplicate files. If you just share the folder you will always have access to the latest files in the folder without waiting to for the files to copy; in doing so creating duplicates.

HP Notebook: The recovery partition could not be found
DigeratiPrime replied to ahmad2080's topic in Software Hangout
As jaclaz mentions, if you search on google for a minute you will find that HP uses PC Angel, I didnt find anything helpful on that site so I neglected to mention it earlier. Also as jaclaz mentions its just bytes, and any software that can do a block based backup and restore will work. Still this is besides the point, as the MBR is a special area on the disk and not all backup software include it; for example file based images like WIM. -
As for a host based solution I think the most popular tool has been NetLimiter. An example of a network based solution is using QOS on switches. Depends on if you are trying to cap hosts or you just want equitable distribution of bandwidth.

Have you considered using a network share on your Vista pc and either mapping it as a drive or creating a shortcut to the unc path on your XP pc?

Hard drive clone didn't clone correctly.
DigeratiPrime replied to rjisinspired's topic in Software Hangout
First: too much information. Second : I am not familiar with Paragon but I'll try to help. I think what would help explain the situation most is a screenshot of Paragon so we can see both disk structures. Or just give us as much information on the two disks as possible such as total size, partition sizes, partition types, filesystems, free space on partitions, etc. Cloning a disk is usually a block based copying, meaning it will preserve the partition type, filesystem, and layout. Whereas Copying files from one disk to another ignores that information. Generally copying files is safer, cloning is useful if you are trying to copy partitions. The only reason to share an IDE cable for two devices is if you do not have enough cables or ports on the motherboard. Sharing the cable reduces performance in transfers between devices since they need to take turns talking to the controller, and also can raise issues with jumper settings. -

HP Notebook: The recovery partition could not be found
DigeratiPrime replied to ahmad2080's topic in Software Hangout
If you want to bring back the F11 option, or change the recovery volume attributes you're going to need to modify the MBR. You NEED a recovery disc before you even attempt this because chances are the hard drive will become unbootable. I would reccomend backing up your data to another drive too. -
The Windows Firewall in XP can only control incoming connections, if you want to restrict software from opening connections you need a 3rd party firewall. The Windows Firewall in Vista can block 3rd party software from opening connections but default allows all outgoing traffic. The Windows Firewall in 7 will alert the first time a 3rd party software tries to open a connection with choices based on network locations. If you're concerned about DLL Injection you should consider Vista as it has ASLR and UAC which will protect processes from each other.

Motherboards with the Intel X58 can do a 4*8x or 2*16x PCI-e lane config. You could do SLI, RAID, and 10Gb if you wanted on that. Current RAID controllers that use PCI-e x8 can support 24 attached SATA drives. Current 10Gb NICs use 8x pci-e. This motherboard has 6 16x slots at various speeds. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131358

Since you're getting BSODs you already have a memory dump, for starters just upload the most recent minidump from the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

HP Notebook: The recovery partition could not be found
DigeratiPrime replied to ahmad2080's topic in Software Hangout
I am not sure what you're trying to accomplish anymore. Can you restate specifically what the "problem" is? I think you want to create a recovery disc but the hp software is broken, it looks like this software just uses the built in vista backup feature, I have pointed out how to restore from the recovery partition without using an hp recovery disc. You could also create a standard recovery disc from the control panel, it might be missing some customization hp makes to WinRE, but its going to restore the same image anyway. -

What version of Windows are you running? What options do you have on the Advanced Boot Options menu (F8)? Do you have a Windows Vista setup disc? That includes WinRE which could be used to modify the registry "offline".

I would be helpful to see the contents of HPRM-BCDFix.cmd, just open it with notepad and paste the contents here inside tags. There is also a GetKeyboardLayout.exe.LOG file that would help, there appear to be other logs but not as relevant. It sounds like you have an entry in BCD called "HP Recovery Manager" which you might be able to access by holding F8 as Windows is about to boot through the [b]Advanced Boot Options[/b] menu. The F11 option was probably removed from the MBR.
