I can't STAND using metric for half the things I do. When I measure, it's in feet and inches (even with a desk ruler). When I draw, it's in feet and inches. When I talk about dimensions of any kind, it's in feet and inches. The only time I talk about kilometers is when I talk about speed or long distances (mostly on the road). I use ounces, pints and gallons for liquid, the only time I refer to litres is when I pump gas, calculate L/100 KM or buy juice. I weigh things in pounds too. Wtf is a Kilo?

If you want to build a power machine or a gaming machine, don't buy either. Wait for the Intel X38 chipset to come out.

... Let's exchange text files as the new Web 3.0 as ripken suggests.

I'm not a big fan of monitor stands in general. I don't really need any space on my desk for anything other then my computer. I don't even remember the last time I used a book at my computer, everything's available online now. It can be had for as little as $12.50 online. It's heck of a good value. -

You've also had your PSU since day one. -

It's a Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000. It has a laptop softness to it but it's a full size keyboard that has a slight curve in it (vs the old completely split Microsoft Natural Keyboards). It's amongst the most silent keyboards I've worked with so far. Although the space bar suffers the same metal bar cling that every keyboard suffers, it's far less then any other keyboard I've ever heard. -

Chances are you won't see that on newer PCs. That's mostly the case in older PCs where APM/ACPI support wasn't always automatic. -
Best thing to do, show your parents the picture I posted in the other thread. Tell them that a lot of people have had that happen to their power supplies and if that happens, your entire computer will get destroyed by the surge. Then, show them the Seasonic or Corsair, tell them those power supplies are SAFE and QUALITY and will prevent your computer for getting fried.

I've had a lot of people ask me what my setup looks like at home. Well no one need wonder any more, this is what my desk looks like: It's pretty ordinary looking, but some people seem to get impressed by the dual VX922s I have. Oh and the white thing behind the right monitor is my voltage regulator. -
Good idea... because otherwise, your power supply could look like this image: http://www.pjrc.com/about/rambling/antec_BlownPSU.jpg Reminds me of the infamous TigerPros... ****.

OMG. Change that, and as soon as you can. Those are amongst the cheapest power supplies which are bound to explode. There's a bloody good chance of that. Buy yourself something solid and reliable like a Corsair 520W.

It mostly depends on what part of the wave you want to ride. I like to ride near the front of the wave without necessarily being at the point of it. Being cutting edge all the time, it's something to be expected. I just don't want to be riding the wave after it's passed for the sake of buying proven reliability.

Hard drives should not have drivers. Your SATA controller, however, will. Perhaps you've installed your hard drives using AHCI mode or they're installed on a non-standard SATA controller. Chances are if you update windows to the latest updates and update your chipset drivers, problems should go away.

My computer is on from the time I get up until the time I go to sleep unless I have work for it, in which case, it'll run 24 hours on end. That's why I put so much money into quality parts, long lasting reliability and redundancy when I can.

I guess it comes down to me also not trusting ATI like I don't trust AMD. I like things to be original and authentic, ATI/AMD just feels 2nd place to me.

UPHClean is always a good thing to have installed. And cluberti is 100% on the money, as usual.

One word. Foxconn. That... and a fair bit of persuasion on my part.

I stopped recommending all ATI products a long time ago. They just don't hold up to nVidia at the dollar performance price ratio. It's no mistake that a lot of games have a splash screen at the beginning that says Designed for nVidia or Best on nVidia or things of the like. When's the last time you started a game that had ATI advertisement?

You may want to refer to this list to get a clue as to what the beeps mean... http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/beepcodes.htm There's always the possibility that if you did not insert your memory properly you could have damaged something.

OCZ, hands down. And by the way... ... sorry to say, you don't know anything. And I really don't mean that to be insulting. EVERYTHING about the X38 chipset at this time is speculation. Why? Because Intel has not released anything official.Even things like this: http://www.tweaktown.com/popImg.php?img=news_intel_x38.jpg are still not written in stone. Until Intel makes an official press release saying that the X38 is launched and those are the final features, everything remains speculation. Chances are that the things mentioned in the image I just mentioned are going to make it through the final version, but nothing is ever final until it is. Especially at this time, there's a LOT of rumours going around about the X38. As for DDR3, I wouldn't count on it being too expensive for too long considering how fast they're already progressing in bringing down timings. Don't forget, we've been using GDDR3 memory on video cards for years now. The tweaking and the timings are due to the fact that they've never produced DDR3 in such dense quantities (Most video cards are still 256MB or 512MB while we're up to 2GB memory sticks).

The GeForce 8600 GT is a great video card. It's the fastest card you can buy without blowing an entire paycheck for it at less then $200. The only thing faster in the nVidia lineup is 7800/7900 or 8800 which are all in the $400 plus range.

Click you the Activate and Use This Control - Internet Explorer 7
jcarle replied to WinXP's topic in Windows XP
Unfortunately, that behaviour is imbedded into IE7. You cannot turn it off. It is up to web developers to create their content in such a way that activation is not required. Some do, some don't. When you go to a website that requires you to activate the control, they haven't updated their code to work with IE7. When you go to websites that don't, they're up to date. -

At this moment, there is no one available to maintain that UL.
