  1. I'll try it now, need to expand, modify, modifype, and makecab my winlogon.exe and uxtheme.dll. i'll let ya know if it doesn't work great job btw... and what visual style is that btw?
  2. lol yea i remeber seeing this about a year ago, pretty funny though lol.
  3. lol. wack lyrics cause it's been translated, but song has a nice beat to it. Then again i like songs in diffrent languages just cause it sounds diffrent.. like all the Rammstein and O-Zone Bands.(Dragostea Din Tei, before it became the popular numa numa song)
  4. haha someone get that kid Counter-Strike 1.6 and have him go against me.. he'll end up shooting himself lol.
  5. you forgot all the diffrent flavors of Vista theres gonna be... http://www.engadget.com/2006/02/19/which-w...have-8-choices/ i think they're actually trying to aim at Microsoft IT guys now.. lol.
  6. if you have a firewall make sure to clear it's DNS Cache as well. if you manually type in the 10.10.10.15 number does it connect? also try doing ipconfig /displaydns and see if that resolves to 10.10.10.15 as well.. yeap by the dnsapi.dll file... the following can't be changed in HOSTS without hexediting the dnsapi.dll. (which i have done) www.msdn.com msdn.com www.msn.com msn.com go.microsoft.com msdn.microsoft.com office.microsoft.com microsoftupdate.microsoft.com wustats.microsoft.com support.microsoft.com www.microsoft.com microsoft.com update.microsoft.com download.microsoft.com microsoftupdate.com windowsupdate.com windowsupdate.microsoft.com sorry for takin this thread a little off topic lol.
  7. always a way around, if they did some how find a way to "force" it on i just won't get that update, or just stop updating all together... it's stupid for them to do this and I won't support it by running this bull**** on my computer. if it was truely forced by some means other then Windows Update and couldn't be removed... it'd be time for me to switch to linux lol.
  8. sounds like both ways work. I've replaced the HOSTS file in my I386 folder with the one i use now and tested an install.. worked perfect. I'm gonna try and create one at $OEM$\$$\Drivers\Etc\ and see which one over writes which lol. i'm guessing the $OEM$ one will.
  9. i guess this is the linux side of me saying that using expand is easier. but then again, whenever i open compressed cab files i also modifype them and makecab them as well.
  10. plays fine here.. put it up on my server if you're still having trouble hearing it... http://bio.pk-designs.com/scuff.wav
  11. I agree with Scuba on this, whenever i work on a computer, first thing i do is: Start -> Run -> Winver second thing i do run "systeminfo.exe" and do start -> run -> "Z:\systeminfo.exe > C:\info.txt" (subbing Z: for the thumbdrive of course)
  12. it's possible to make a CD from an OEM copy. I posted this about a year ago on another forum. although i have this bad habbit of posting and never coming back for the replies lol. I'm actually using this same method today, i just did some "modifications" that i can't mention on this forum lol. http://bink.nu/forums/8026/ShowPost.aspx (How-To by me. Name on there is "Replicant") http://bink.nu/forums/11101/ShowPost.aspx (some guy thanking me lol) http://bink.nu/forums/11112/ShowPost.aspx (guy that tried my method and had success) I actually slipstream SP2 on my CD now cause I really don't like dealing with updates. only problem i ran into doing this was the windows activation.. other then that i've been on this method for the past year and a half without any problems.
  13. oh ok, yea after re-reading his original post it does sound like all hes changing is the wallpaper. i got confused because of the title of the thread and the filename because i used to use this theme: http://www.customize.org/details/38014 which also has the title "ModBlue"
  14. ok pretty simple question.. I wanna block sites with the HOSTS file unattended... should i modify the HOSTS file in the I386 folder of my CD, or should i leave that one alone and make a copy to put in the "$OEM$\$$\System32\drivers\etc\" folder? thanks.
  15. hey guys, any easy way of getting all the files from the .cmd files above, i really don't wanna download each and every one of them manually. *hmmm thinks of the possiblility of a wget script to get the latest "critical" updates.....*
  16. no registry settings are needed to do this. check to make sure you're not disabling the theme service and check your regtweak file to make sure you're not telling it to use the windows classic theme in there. i'm guessing you modifype'd and makecab'd you're uxtheme.dll as well.
  17. 21 here, and hear it crystal clear. it's actually rather annoying lol.
  18. just found this out on accident, not sure if it's been mentioned here before. (search didn't bring back any real results) If you press Shift+F10 during the Graphical part of windows installation it will open a Command Prompt and you can do pretty much anything in it while windows is still installing. *USB Drives seem to work as well... accidently had my 128mb USB stick in and typed "d:" and "dir" and got the contents of the drive....* Possible uses: - Dos command "Type" display a text document. so if you have a file with all the diffrent cd-keys you can display them... or even type one in if you have Product Key = * in winnt.sif (1 cd for multiple computers anyone?) - Type D:\i386\winnt.sif (substitute "D:\" for the drive letter...)(display the contents of your winnt.sif incase you want to make sure you had a specific setting set) - Should be able to play simple games such as minesweeper and solitare from a floppy (maybe off the hard drive as well...) - access control panel items by using the commands here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/192806/en-us (or change passwords with "control userpasswords2") i'm sure theres more uses for this, but thats all i can really think of right now. i know, kinda defeats the purpose of an "unattended" cd if you're sitting there playing in dos.. but i'm sure it will help out someone.
  19. I use avast! Home edition. I have it on 5 out of the 5 PC's in my house. the other 4 are set to send me a notification of any virus activity (using the messenger service.. blocked in my firewall of course) and all update the program and virus definitions silently. it's been one of my favorite antivirus programs i've ever ran into. the only downsides i see to avast are.... - the update notification if you don't manualy make it silent it pops-up and tells you along with playing a .wav file. (can be turned off in settings -> sounds -> disable all sounds, and settings -> Update (basic) -> both set to automatic.. details -> silent -> all checkboxes off) - have to re register every year for updates, but thats not a big problem. - it's **** near impossible to download viruses and trojans LOL.. was trying to download a pack of "security tools" and avast went crazy lol.
  20. yea, sometimes i just say forget updating and just rely on the program updating itself. I was thinkin about making a list of all the direct download links to the software i use then use "wget -i" to download all the links in the file. (which i do for my bartpe cd) but started running into downloads that had the version number in the URL or in the filename.. or php scripts that redirected all over the place and said screw it. lol.
  21. kinda stupid question, but everytime i make a new CD i have to download updated files these include: AutoPatcher Full (and sometimes an update for the current month) Avast Antivirus CCleaner (slim no toolbar and english only) Firefox Thunderbird this is a pretty small assortment compared to most members here, and was just wondering how you guys download and update all your programs.
  22. anyone? i was thinking of taking the guest account on my server, making it administrator in "control userpasswords2" applying a password and seeing if i'd gain access to things like the IPC$ and Admin$ shares. and if i'd also be able to use some of sysinternals remote control tools. only problem i can predict with this is the always authenticate as guest setting... this is all in my home network and on my server, so no i'm not trying to do this on a computer that someone uses.
  23. this is usually caused when MSN Messenger has been removed, since Outlook tries to get your contacts from there it gets confused. try the solution on this page: http://www.tweakxp.com/article37002.aspx
  24. Probably a stupid question, but does anyone know of an easy way to set permissions and do administrative functions on windows XP computers. I know you can't join Domains and you always Authenticate as Guest, but i was wondering if theres any sort of software or other registry/file patches that may enable me to do some advanced stuff. I have 4 XP Home computers, 1 of which is my "server", My "Main" computer, a Laptop, and a computer for my Sister. the Problem coming up is i want to monitor current processes and virus notifications so i can find any virus/spyware infections before it becomes to much of a problem. hope this makes sence to someone. lol.
