Yep Now I was thinking if we can do something about it , I mean what about sending a (polite) e-mail to the site admin/support/contact explaining how you: attempted to view the site with a "good enough" browser and setup due to the stupidity with which the site has been written/setup you landed to a blank page (or to a home page and not on the one you wanted to get, or got an offending popup/popunder/etc.) that they lost at the very least one visit or more generally a reader/contact/prospective buyer/etc., i.e. how they managed to lose the actual whoever/whatever they were trying to get that you have learned your lesson and thus will try your best to avoid ever visiting again the siteWould someone ever read these letters? Would the amount of similar letters ever be enough to make them at least consider the idea of simplifying their crap? @ rn10950 JFYI: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174175-not-a-site-issue-but-maybe-worth-some-thought/ jaclaz

Nahhh, only if it is an old version, 5.1.2600.5512 or earlier, they were too d@mn thin and leaked . Yep , and my point was (at first sight) that the number of files Dibya "replaced" are already more than those *strictly needed* . jaclaz
-
Hi Dibya, could you please state which sys files you replaced exactly? Do visit his thread over on RyanVM's, and you'll sure find out... IF there was a list of the .sys files there that would probably help answer the question ... I suppose that the idea is instead that of downloading a .7z containing everything (and the kitchen sink) and get the list from the files, without knowing which file does what and whether it needs to be replaced or not. jaclaz jaclaz

Not only that, surprisingly (if you believe all the MS FUD) the sky has not fallen on our heads (yet ). jaclaz -
Yep, though not mentioned explicitly as Google but only generically as "advertisers", that phenomenon is described as well: jaclaz

What's a Reasonable Windows Update Strategy Going Forward?
jaclaz replied to NoelC's topic in Windows 10
Well, that would be a cross-enterprise license. @NoelC Maybe you could hire some three programmers don't you love it how the good MS guys try to make your firm grow? jaclaz -

I may be living in the past , but surely you live in the future . When (and if) Server 2016 will be released (expected for second half or possibly even third quarter 2016) we will see what happens, I mean it would not be the first (nor the last) time that the good MS guys have changed something (particularly licensing and capabilities/features) at the last moment (or even after release). jaclaz -

Well but then most people save a lot of money and time, maybe after all that is productive. jaclaz -
Sure . The MSR is just "some slack space, just in case". The recovery is of course the recovery. jaclaz

You mean that the iPad is actually productive? jaclaz -
No, as said EFI wants a FAT (depending on OS this might need to be specifically FAT32) partition. A few motherboards' UEFI firmwares do include a NTFS EFI driver, but they are not "common". If using BIOS (or CSM mode) there are workarounds. If using UEFI there are third party EFI NTFS drivers (Rufus), but they will need to reside on a FAT (FAT32) partition, CATCH22! jaclaz

"Slipstreamable" Intel Chipset INF Drivers

Naah that would be far too sophisticated , it just plays Las Vegas , and anyway remember that they can play the secret seven anytime : http://homepage.ntlworld.com./jonathan.deboynepollard/Humour/microsoft-monopoly.html jaclaz -
Well, besides this being IMHO not particularly smart, and contrary to "common sense" (particularly in the case of a System partition that you won' t ever "see" in normal use) how exactly do you intend to boot that system? Anyway you should be able to delete it from diskpart alright, you have been warned , you can proceed : http://davidvielmetter.com/tricks/delete-efi-partition-in-windows-7/ jaclaz

An extremely interesting article/talk, here: http://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm Too many good points to be quoted , among them I like the proposal for the Taft test: jaclaz

NOT what you asked , but maybe you can find some related tool/codec/trick here: http://rarewares.org/index.php as it contains a lot of "related" material. jaclaz

Please help me to add make a batch file to edit boot.ini
jaclaz replied to Dibya's topic in Windows XP
Relax. Get binifix4.cmd from here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/61384-how-to-bootinstall-from-usb-key/page-12#entry679802 make the small fix here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/61384-how-to-bootinstall-from-usb-key/?p=680254 and modify it to suit your *needs*, of course you don't need a large part of the script, but it contains the "proper" routines to set/reset attributes of the file and (though probably unneeded) has some validation routines for the allowed sintaxes of the ArcPaths. EDIT, the second link above is not resolving properly (for some reasons), this one does: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/61384-how-to-bootinstall-from-usb-key/page-12#entry680254 jaclaz -
Sure it is possible , point might be WHY you would do that. The problem is that the GPT/UEFI standard turns around the filesystem used, which has to be FAT though some motherboards firmware do include (beyond specs)a NTFS driver. Basically a GPT disk without a FAT partition (of course containing an EFI bootloader or bootmanager) is not bootable. There are workarounds and "tricks", but they are not really-really advised unless there is some valid reason for not wanting to have that EFI system partition. In any case you should get familiar with these pages (and with the gdisk tool): http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/ jaclaz

I am not sure to understand, you are acquainted with "kids" or with "old people" (i.e. "50+" )? I am not sure that the definition of "old" changes much the more you travel away from the city centre, but maybe that's how it works in the USA (like New York vs. - say - Alaska is the same ... ). Anyway, the UN has put the switch at 60: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_age#Official_definitions and seemingly "popular definitions" (including US ones) are a bit higher than that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_age#Popular_definitions jaclaz -
If that is a question, here is the answer: Yes. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jonathan.deboynepollard/FGA/questions-with-yes-or-no-answers.html Now, it would be nice if you could share, possibly on it's thread here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174940-please-help-me-finding-msi-z170a-gaming-m7-driver-for-xp-32bit/ the EXACT steps you took to have XP working on that motherboard, so that it can be of help to other people. jaclaz

The Younger Crowd Attitude Changing on Technology ?

At least here in Italy there are a lot of places where you can deliver used oil, including most fuel station and workshops, as a matter of fact any place that sells new oil is (by Law, and it is AFAIK EU norms) bound to allow bringing in used oil and receive it for free. Of course it is not like you buy 1 Kg of oil and next day you deliver 1000 kg of used oil . It is more difficult to find the "correct" way to get rid of used oil filters, not all the same people will receive them. jaclaz -

"older generation"="50+" You have set a rather low level for "us". Not that all people would not want to, basically they are forced to, no matter if they would like to do it. On most modern cars (manufactured last - say - 15-20 years or so) you do not change oil based on kilometres/miles driven, the stupid on board computer tells you that you need to go to the workshop to make an "A" or "B" checkup (the "A" is the "light" one, where you change just the oil and filter) but then the stupid manufacturer wants you to have another stupid computer or program to connect to the stupid on board computer through the stupid OBD port: http://lavalink.com/2012/06/obdii-automotive-diagnostics-and-serial-port-connections/ to tell it that the oil and filter have been changed, reset the "counter" and turn off the stupid flashing reminder on the dashboard. This - depending on make/model - can be easy-peasy or very complex (and as well a "simple" ODB device or a program might be cheap or rather costly) and if you go for an el-cheapo device (some are like a few bucks) you are not really-really sure you are not going to mess the stupid on-board computer, a professional (supported/guaranteed) multi-manufacturer/model tool runs at least a few hundred of bucks AFAIK. jaclaz -
Sure it is but is ONLY for the Service Pack 3. You need a XP install CD, or .iso to which you can apply (or integrate) the Service Pack (or that you apply to an existing install). It is just a (cumulative) update, the contents of the.iso are essentially the WINDOWSXP-KB936929-SP3-X86-ENU.EXE (the actual service pack executable). jaclaz
