  1. IMO, it's finished, so it should be put out there. I see no sense in an RTM and then a RTW a week later. But hey, nobody ever said MSFT made any sense. Additional languages won't be released until a later time.
  2. Letting those that have either one of these accounts know that SP3 is now available to you.
  3. For those that have Technet or MSDN accounts, SP3 is now available to you. So download and enjoy it as they say around here, "legally". Something FREE being considered warez. Go figure.
  4. I don't use nLite, but the file is legitimate. Already slipstreamed and have it installed.
  5. OSS does not automatically mean there are fewer bugs or less critical flaws. Bugs in programs are also dependant on what compiler is used and what options are used to optimize the source. I've written quite a lot of software over the years and there have been many many times that an unoptimized build will work differently than a build with general or specific optimizations enabled. It's not enough to be able to examine the source. You also have to know about the quirks and bugs of the compiler you use.
  6. 32bit and 64bit are about the same, but the improvements you will see most comes from 64bit programs and the larger memory space available to the programs that can make use of it. If you have 4GB+ of RAM and you use a 32bit OS, you just wasted money on that extra RAM because you cannot use it. To get full RAM capacity you HAVE to use a 64bit OS.
  7. http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com Basically, you pay for them to fix and clean your PC should something happen to it.
  8. Since Server 2003 is a server OS and XP64, while it is S2K3, is a consumer OS.
  9. I've used them all and in my personal opinion I find XP to be better. I cannot stand Vista. My hardware can more than run it at fast speeds, but it just feel too sluggish to me. It's lacking in some areas. A few (IMO) nice things. But overall it's not something I would choose to run. That being said... If you like Vista, make sure your hardware has drivers. Most all current hardware has drivers for at least the 32bit version of Vista, 64bit is sorely lacking for some things. Program compatability with 64bit is also a factor. The vast majority of programs runs just fine in 64bit, but some either don't work at all or work poorly. With 4 gigs or RAM or more you will definitely have to have a 64bit OS whether it's XP or Vista to be able to use the full amount of RAM. If your concerned about XP going out of support then install XP64 as it IS Server 2003. S2K3 will be supported for a lot longer than the consumer OS ever will be. I'd definitely go with 64bit considering the amount of RAM you have. Whether it's XP or Vista that you choose, is ultimately up to you.
  10. I was only using it as an example. At the current moment, I couldn't really tell you if a general solution exists. I haven't really thought about it much until I saw this thread, but there were (are?) ways to use Google to get exact matches for search queries. I will keep an eye out for information as I browse around and will post back as appropriate. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful at this time.
  11. Netscape I'll concede to. IBM on the other hand...Yes MS did screw them on the OS/2 project by making a fork of the OS/2 source and calling it NT, but IBM's downfall was the fault of IBM. They were complacent and arrogant and thought no matter what they made would sell because of the IBM brand. The IBM PC project was there for the sole purpose because of a bet between some IBM guys that they could actually complete a project on time and under budget. They chose to make a PC. I do agree that MS plays hardball way too much and way too often. It's one thing to compete. It's another to totally "Embrace, crush and destroy", as was their motto for so long. It still is, but they're trying to paint themselves a kinder and gentler MS. There's isn't any amount of paint that can cover them and make them pretty. Sony on the other hand, are digging their own graves. They don't need help in doing that. OT: IE8 in its current form, sucks. It's slow and laggy and breaks tons of stuff at the moment. Luckilly I don't do web developement.
  12. nice trick,i didnt know it.thanks Glad to help. There's a PDF/Word document floating around somewhere that lists what types of queries (undocumentd by Google) to use to find more specific and accurate search results and various other odds and ends. I'll do some searching and post the link back here when/if I find it again. Now I have, and it's the same - gives a lot of hits for "perf dll" too. I guess this is something like filetype:dll? BTW, this thread is also in the hits. GL I did a search for perf:dll, and while it did return results for "perf dll" as well, it did return only 310 results, whereas doing a search for perf+dll returned over 100,000. I'd much rather have look through and deal with some extraneous results than to wade through thousands upon thousands of results.
  13. To an extent, but Vista was supposed to be shipped with a 'game mode' that completely unloaded DWM and every nonessential service while in full screen DX mode. That will never become a reality. There isn't any software that exists that is bug free. There never will be. I have three wishes for 7... An option to install a core version of the OS with optional/additional components as I see fit. I don't need a one size fits all OS. Complete virtualization of legacy apps code. Why have legacy code for Windows 1.01 apps? Or for OS/2 Presentation Manager apps? Registry Virtualization. Keep a central registry for hardware and OS settings, but completely virtualize the registry entries that 3rd party apps create and store those in the install folder of the application. Delete the folder for quick and easy program removal and no junk left behind.
  14. Most of the developers I know use C/C++. Me personally, I code exclusively in assembly language.
  15. Have you tried perf:dll as your search term?
  16. XP Performance Compatabilities I Chose XP I'd rather use XP. It's faster and better performing on my quad system than Vista is. Vista just got on my nerves too much especially when I encountered that out of memory while copying files bug. I do find it strange that people would pick "looks" as a main reason for using Vista though. I don't get why people want looks over functionality.
  17. Exactly. Nero isn't a good program any more. I wouldnt do that. I wouldn't warez it either. Not worth the bandwidth.
  18. I voted yes on all 3. However, for business use it should not be forced as it would literally break alot of things. If these were rolled up into SP3 then there should be an option to install or not to install.
  19. XP64 was not forked. It is EXACTLY the same as S2K3 minus the server code. A binary compare between the two OSs will reveal that. And yet you feel the need to come in and start bashing people for what they know or they think they know. If someone is wrong in what they think or say then by all means say so. But do it in a polite manner. Might as well rename the site MSFNeowin for all the childish bickering going on.
  20. Hi all, I was wondering / hoping that someone could post a list of what services are enabled, disabled, automatic or manual modes in server 2008 so Vista could be matched up to this. Thanks for any replies.
  21. If it produces as much energy as 10 nuclear power plants then it should be able to power more than just 1/3 of Florida. As for the rest of the article...it may be cheap to impliment but the consumer will get price raped over it.
  22. I have to disagree. I think UT3 is way better than 2004. I do think they need to remove the consolish menus and that god awful server browser and replace it with something different. I give it an A-.
  23. The sad things is that's true. You also forgot to mention that spammers get more time in jail than most hard core criminals. The U.S. justice system is a joke beyond all belief.
