[RELEASE] Boooggy's WMP 11 direct integration solution
ChiefZeke replied to boooggy's topic in Application Add-Ons
WMP11 Slipstreamer 1.4.3.0 installed in XP Pro w/SP3, XP Pro x64 w/SP2, and Win7 Ultimate 64-bit w/SP1. RVM_Integrator_1.6.1 beta 2.1 being used to update XP Pro x64 w/SP2 with 5er_UpdatePack_XPx64SP2_2011-09_1.7z, various addons, and wmp11-windowsxp-x64-enu.exe and hotfixes for WMP11. The source is folder: Windows XP Pro x64 with SP2 CD which is a copy of the CD. The RyanVM Integrator is in its own folder and used by all operating systems. RyanVM Integrator > Advanced > Check mark in box for Run a Program After Integration > \WMP11Slipstreamer\WMP11Slipstreamer.exe > check mark in box Leave Integartor Open. RyanVM Integrator > Main > Integrate completes succesfully and WMP11 Slipstreamer is started. Basic options > are filled in as appropriate for slipstreaming the 64-bit version of WMP11 and hotfixes > Integrate > Error message appears: WMP11 Slipstreamer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience; Close > WMP11 Slipstreamr exits the scene. Problem occurs in all operating systems listed above so I would conclude it must be a WMP11 Slipstreamer problem as opposed to a glitch in the operating system involved. No log files created. -
A 32-bit program, in this case vLite, installed in \Program Files (x86)\ cannot start a 64-bit program installed in \Program Files\ - it has no way of actually 'knowing' it is there. If there is a way around this I'm sure someone will come along and mention it.

Check Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and see if there are any items listed that could be causing the problem.

default special folder location
ChiefZeke replied to xleonx's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
The book: "Microsoft Windows Registry Guide" ISBN 0-7356-2218-3 by Jerry Honeycutt on pages 132-133 is the only source I've found that has explicit instructions on 'Special Folders' and how to redirect them. -
You have a 500Gb hard drive - why are you limiting the partitions just to install the OS? Just create a 125Gb for XP, another 125Gb for Win7 and the rest for whatever. Boot from the XP CD and install it first; boot from the Win7 DVD and install it. This will create the dual-boot option when you start the system. Done

7Customize integrate DriverPack Driver
ChiefZeke replied to whairs01's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
If you go here: http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=4954 and read the postings you will find instructions on using the Win7 DriverPacks and how they recommend an installation. Have no idea if it works with 7Customizer - you'll have to do that yourself. -
I'm using http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/vsuite-ramdisk/index.html - creates RAMdrive in XP Pro and Wn7 32- and 64-bit.
-
Do a Google search for AutoStreamer - it is designed solely for slipstreaming and will also create an ISO so you can burn a 'new' XP w/SP3 CD.
-
Office Slipstreamer (works on 2000, XP, 2003, 2007) will do it - problem is it is an older program that has not been supported for quite a while - a Google search may find it for download.

A visual guide to 7Customizer
ChiefZeke replied to blue4603's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Win7 SP1 has been released - can it be integrated/slipstreamed using the Updates tab or will you add a Service Pack tab in the future or is it not possible to include SP1 as an update under any conditions? -
A better process is to slipsteam SP3, create a new XP w/SP3 CD and use it as the source - better results in this case. Google AutoStreamer and use it to perform the slipstream and ISO creation so you can burn the new XP w/SP3 CD. .NET Framework addons can be found in a couple of places: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/ and http://www.wincert.net/forum/ Then you use nLite or the RyanVM Integrator; found at: http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/ to slipstream addons/updates to create your 'new' CD.

Disconnect the drive containing Win7, connect the new formatted drive and install XP, remove the XP drive, reinstall/reconnect the Win7 drive. Should prevent all incompatibility issues.

Making XP recovery flash key, upgrade home to pro
ChiefZeke replied to zaphod's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
OEM XP disks, when installed, are tied to the system originally installed in - doubt if you could install it on a different system. If there is away around this restriction someone will mention it. -

Installing to somewhere other than c:\Windows
ChiefZeke replied to blackcat's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
The only way I'm aware of that allows you to maintain/select your own drives is if Win7 is installed from within XP in a dual/multi-boot configuration. I know because I originally had XP Pro and XP Pro x64 installed prior to upgrading to Win7 and somewhere, way back when, when I asked about dual/multi-booting and already partitioned hard drives I got an answer that to preserve drive letters the user would have to install Win7 from within XP. I know that's not what you asked about but I've not heard of any other method. Also, if this procedure is used and then XP is removed and dual/mulit boot is no longer required I have no idea as to what happens to the drive letters previously established.
