Harddisk-related (possibly) crashing issue
puntoMX replied to lithium112's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Well, I see it mostly when the drive got bumped when it was spinning, making the head touch the disk, making a small scratch on that place. This would make perfect sense here as the "paging" area is used most on a drive. Other than that, I would ask someone else to shed some light on this . -
What hardware are you talking about, e.g. what cameras and what capture card? How did you place the wiring? And does the distortion show also when you use a short cable (51cm/20")?

Question about my Sound Card + What budget speaker system
puntoMX replied to m16si's topic in Hardware Hangout
Not really, I´m sure a lot of "real" speaker drivers, sub-mid, can handle easily 40W RMS. But yes, computer speakers are not so powerfull (in general) and they don´t use those "real" drivers . -
Which is better for me? I was thinking of getting a new Desktop.
puntoMX replied to AeroBlade's topic in Hardware Hangout
That´s too bad, I´m sure you would have loved to build one on your own and we could have helped you trough it (Although we had 1 or 2 persons that could not follow our instructions but they and we tried ).If you need any help in the future don´t be afraid to come back to us . -
Question about my Sound Card + What budget speaker system
puntoMX replied to m16si's topic in Hardware Hangout
That would be an advice for the other readers as m16si already bought his 5.1 speaker set from Logitech. 96dB isn´t much, how did you get this number? This is an average number over a period? Most small (2-way) speaker systems would have 84 to 88dB @ 1m @ 1W straight on the baffle, so that would take 16W RMS to get to a SPL of 96dB. -
Post Pictures and Specifications of your computer here!
puntoMX replied to ripken204's topic in Hardware Hangout
Nice rig, just do some cable management, kick out the beige floppy drive and ask some one else to close the case while you hold your camera . Just go to the hardware shop and buy yourself a pack of tie-wraps; cheap and useful. I like the you-tube presentations. -
Don´t we love overlocking? Most crashes I see are shaders/core/RAM out of sync (1MHz could mess up a card real bad).

I stand corrected; The Intel GMA950 has no TnL hardware onboard, my mistake and sorry (slams head trough the table...).
-
Dude! I don´t get how you think and where your logic is at but this is really not the smartest thing to say. Listen, it has hardware T&L and I have to correct myself there a bit as it´s DX 9.0b and not 9.0c. Then you come with a link to a guy that is talking bullcrap like: Err... And where do you get this from? Refresh rate is response time?...You are totally, but totally wrong there... totally .

Well, there is a negative side on those Intel graphics; they seem to have the 24Hz bug that makes some videos "skip" a frame or two every ones and then but nothing that can be fixed with a new BIOS or driver (Even the G45 has it ). Okay, didn´t knew you were such an OCer, Intel=OC, AMD=Stock indeed. Let me have a peek too!

Then I would use an older driver that works well with the 9800 Firmware for that card. The 9800 are known for sudden death also...

Will the following computer support Blu-Ray playback?
puntoMX replied to im_to_hyper's topic in Hardware Hangout
Most controllers use a VIA chip that isn´t really that compatible with SATA although it´s designed for it.What CPU is that? S478 or S775? -
Getting "crashed" hard drive to boot
puntoMX replied to buckdog05's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
That drive I would not even use as a paper weight, for real, get yourself a new one, or in this case the guy from whom the drive belongs. Drives are cheap these days and properly more speedy than the drive that "crashed". -
That´s too bad really, they dropped the X2 CPUs more in price and I see 5200+ CPUs fro way less than a E2200 for example and perform better. Too bad there cooler isn´t really top of the notch so to say... The 780G and the 790G chipset perform darn well I have to say, about 60% better in 3D apps (DX 8.1/9.0 and not OCed) and has DX 10, H.264, HDMI (with sound)/DVI, and THG says it has a TDP of less than 1W (RIGHT! remember the 945GC has a TDP of 22W ).Anyway, we are going into the AMD vs. Intel discucion . Do you need more than 60Hz on an LCD screen?Any way, it DOES do TnL hardware and DOES pixel shading hardware too (9.0c even as I remember, just wasn´t enabled in their first release of their drivers). The GMA 950 isn´t bad at all and does run some titles like NFSU2 and HL2 pretty well, ... for real...

If you go with AMD then yes .I hope they got it right this time at Intel... Actually, you can do a lot and still keep a nice 24" screen in too. But I wonder how to get the 16GB, they just released 4GB DIMM that seem to work perfectly on the P45 chipset...Let´s have a look at some toyz at Newegg and I´ll post back .

So you´re lucky that the capacitors are the problem would never think they would make that sound as they normally just pop and that it. They o make a sound before the pop but I only heard that when putting on to high voltages (done for testing by me). If the plastic clips are broken, you can use silicon glue to get it back together. It´s easy applied and can be wiped of where it´s not needed. It takes some time to dry, that´s for sure.

Shoot... I pay 0.21USD for each kWh . EDIT: plus 15% tax...

Wow was that a long read to come to this post . Well, also the "bad" builders are getting less "bad" these days. I´m now using for example Biostar motherboards that come with solid capacitors too in the area where it´s needed and ASRock has motherboards that are completely sticked with the solid ones. But, if we talk about low consumption motherboards than ASUS and Gigabyte would be high in the list indeed; they use good mosfet voltage regulators AND good a written BIOS. You would say that a BIOS doesn´t do much, which is true, but if the power-save function isn´t well written* than systems with for example Cool´n´Quiet or EIST have no use of these functions at all, or at least not that much as it should be.By the way, when we talk about "green stuff/power" than the only really green solution would be solar power. Hydro dams make big changes in environments too, so animals and plants could disappear from those arias, while, like some said, wind generators in form of a mill also kill birds but with a redesign that could be solved (wind tunnel/capturers). By the way, fuel cells are now the hype, seen in laptop design and photo cameras for example, any thoughts on that? (*) And that .

Indeed.Click that red speaker Icon and set it to the 5.1 speaker configuration if you didn´t do it already .

Question about my Sound Card + What budget speaker system
puntoMX replied to m16si's topic in Hardware Hangout
That´s with everything... And yes, a good amp with sub and 5 satellites go for 5k, but you have to build them yourself .Anyway, the speakers are good for that price and you hardly will find anything better. -
Well, most designs are made to blow air on the CPU.What cooler are you using now?
