  1. If i leave the DVD-WR drive open (at boot time using pin), nothing special happens, i.e.,: computer pauses for same 5-7 minutes, and sometimes 10-15 minutes. Earlier it was working perfectly. its been a year since i purchased this pricey laptop (HP dv6516tx). Please help me in finding out the problem, so that i can fix it or know before-hand doing critical work(official work) on it. Thanks puntoMX for replying.
  2. As previously told in forum, : http://www.msfn.org/board/Vista-after-logo...rs-t124150.html laptop was infected with virus., and i removed it Now, after removing virus using stinger tool, (and this situation was before too), so its not related to virus: 1. When the system boots, it shows HP Logo, no other key works except Esc. key, which when pressed shows some messages like BIOS version (Phoenix trustedCore...) and last 2 lines on black screen shows: System BIOS Shadowed Video BIOS Shadowed 2. Also, DVD drive sometimes works , and sometimes its light remain on (yellow color), and it also does not open, and sometimes it works. It(computer) pauses(at BIOS black screen) for approx. 4-5 minutes, and sometimes stuck here for 10 minutes. after that it boots. My question: What could be the problem for such pause? What components i can pinpoint which are causing it? Is it indication for anyotehr failure of hardware in future.?
  3. Thanks everyone including the excellant forum, problem solved. It was cuased by a virus called: W32.Sality.AE More info at: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/...-042106-1847-99 regards
  4. Friends please answer as many questions as u wish or know. Its important for me to repair the problem. ITS On my friends (Who is far from me now), HP laptop after logon in Windows Vista , a black screen appears. NO desktop nothing. A blank screen with mouse cursor. What i did: As some sites said, in recovery console, i typed regedit, then registry editor appeared, there i check for the following key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon in shell value, i heck it was mentioned: cmd.exe /k start cmd.exe i got that changed to explorer.exe. Now, when the system restarted, my desktop is there, but no internet connection. My question: 1. What caused that value to change? is it that Windows Vista uses cmd.exe for shell? or explorer? 2. Since if it was virus, what virus is it? i want to know that. and remove it. 3. Task manager option in Ctrl+Alt+Del is also not there? what to do? 3. Friend laptop is HP dv6502tx, he has some Norton antivirus installed, it is expired. How to know the version of it? best regards
  5. Got my problem(confusion) solved : 1. my board 845GVSR does not support Graphics port (AGP Port), so no point installing AGP card. 2. yes, its confirmed, Apple Mac OS cannot be installed on non-apple hardware. Thanks forum for support. Shall keep this thread updated, if any progress happens on this point.
  6. Objective : Install FCP (Final cut pro) on PC with 2 monitors (one display will do, but i prefer to run FCP with 2 display) on Windows XP with some Emulator. my Current PC configuration is : Mainboard: Intel D845GVSR Processor: Intel Pentium 4 @ 2400 MHz OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 RAM: 256MB (DDR-SDRAM PC2100) (This i will upgrade to 2 GB) Hard Disk: 80Gb (This i will upgrade to 120GB) Power/SMPS: 400 (approx) (Anyother thing one needs to know, please ask). The problem i am facing are: 1. Selection of Cheapest Graphics Card that can be installed on above PC, some of them i selected are: -GeForce 6600 GT and -GeForce 6800 GS Since i need to run FCP with 2 displays, will the above cards fulfil my needs? Please recommend any other card or comments about the above two which will work on FCP. It may be i am looking in wrong direction. 2. Which emulator is best for running Mac?: -MS Virtual PC or server or -VMWare or pearpc Anyother tips for running FCP, since i am fairly new to Mac world, and i need to help a man with low resources (Money) in hands. The person needs to first try hands on FCP, then he shall buy Mac machine or so. Thanks community.
  7. Will definitely run the memory test tonight and tell you about the results, I had ru the test for around 10 minutes but found no error. Complete memory dump will be of around 1GB and zipped i dont kow how much, that will be huge to upload on the forum or elsewhere? Is there anyother procedure to find the culprit? Note: Also, one thing i noticed today, when i replaced my new SDRAM (133 2*512GB) to Old ones' (2*128MB), thus having 256MBSDRAM, my windows XP on starting says, "system32/drivers/pci.sys file not found...press 'r' to repair..." When i replaced back the RAMs to 1GB, it didnt said so, in a way it found that file! isn't funny? OR, some cable got loosed while replacing RAM? Will tell u about the SDRAM Tests. Thanks.
  8. 1. Yes, There r security implications (If your sys-Admin has isabled it). One can execute virus's or change/execute system files to diable security features. 2. Yes, you can do the job of providing searching using either Sharepoint portal or the newly launched Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express, which is free. And yes, You can implement ANY security features to disable or restrict your seacrhing folders and even filetype(s). regards. mynewsin
  9. Please some kind hearted, help me found problem using the atatched 10 debuglogs thus generated during past few days., (i also have many more minidumps, if required.) debuglogs.zip
  10. Can some one in forum, please find out the problem , using Windows XP dumps as uploaded above?
  11. Changed the IDE cable with a new one., but still the problem remains. So cable fault ruled out. Can someone see the dump files to find the reason and solution. Thanks.
  12. Cannot connect my optical drive to primary-master as the cable is not that lengthy. Well, finally i am attaching dump files (minidumps) for anlaysis, Please some anlayse these to find probable cause of problem. Waiting for reply. mini_dumps.zip
  13. On primary-Master -> Hard Disk Primary slave-> Empty (Will try this solution) Configured jumper to Secondary-master(instead of CS). (Cable is though 40 conductor IDE) But still the problem remains. Read: Its an old drive, out of blue one day this problem arose. Agreed jaclaz, But no one in forum is reading completely my post/problem scenario.: 1. After upgrading my Ram from 256MB to 1GB, and 3 days after this problem arises. And Windows-XP BSOD which use to crash several times in a day, now it crashes once in 2 days. [Note: I now replaced with my Old RAM, but the problem remains). So i think new RAM is fine and in good health. 2. I tried all permutuation+combinations of configuration(including new cable change), The point is DVD drives now only works when i disconnect my cd-writer (on Secondary-Slave). PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME sort out point number 2 above, why this is so? I think (probably), there is some point of voltage(power) problem between, something and DVD Drive. If that is, how do i find this problem (Before buying a new drive). I may be on wrong path, but will definitely try the above solution (putting dvd drive on Primary-slave). But my drive before RAM-Upgrade was working perfectly for 3 years, out of blue one day i was into this problem. Thanks jaclaz. Will reply soon, if it works or not.
  14. No, changed with a new PATA cable (with CS jumper set), still the problem remains. My DVD is on Secondary-MASTER (with CS selected) and CD-Writer on Secondary-SLAVE. Now, what i did was, i disconnected my CD-Writable power cable, and then It was all fine and the problem solved. That means with 1Gb of RAM i can connect only 1 optical drive at a time. Otherwise the problem remains, and what i also noted is the DVD-Drive changes from: PINE DVD-ROM PT-616T to PINE $ DVD-ROM PT-616T$ and then again to PINE $ DVD-ROM PT-616T i.e., $ keeps on adding to correct device (DVD-Drive) identifier. Now, what i m thinking is whether my system can afford that much power(Voltage) (my motherborad is i845)? Since disconnecting RAM is very difficult in the box, i will try removing or changing SDRAM (downgrading to 512mb) next time and tell u the result. For time being, please post more valuable tips to solve the problem.
  15. really bad luck of mine, i re-opened my cpu box, re-connected data cable of DVD-Drive to motherboard, and then started my windows, now the Drive is not even showing in Windows Hardware. I am worrying, what could be the problem. All this is happening when i installed 1gb ram from 256MB. I dont know wther my motherborad(i845) is getting appropriate voltage to handle 1gb ram? and worrying whether in future my cd-write wont get damage by all these. Nice try and help, geek. I need to clarify what do u mean by: 1. "........... I know you wont be able to fix that with a driver update." Do u mean firmware instead of driver update? 2. "the firmware on your cd drive may be just fine but somehow incompatible with your particular hardware combination" Earlier the drive was working fine for past 2 years in same computer/cpu-box. OR do u meand DVD-drive could handle the load of 1gb ram, (its funny to say so ) Will keep this topic updated on my finding. Thanks all.
