I found one download link, but it won't start the download. Zxian, if it works for you, let me know. Direct Download Linky For Clicky

Ouch. That's a handful...

Another good one is HyperCam, a bit less user-friendly as you have to manually put in the resolution of your screen of you're doing full screen capture, but it has proven to me to be less buggy when I've had bugs with SnagIt.

HyperSnap DX. It takes "scrolled" screenshots. Meaning, if the area you want to take a picture of is longer than the length (top to bottom of course), it will scroll down itself to span the entire length of your desired area. There are other programs with this feature, I have tried them and HyperSnap DX is the best. It isn't free but you can still use that feature to its full ability even with the trial version, it leaves no logo or watermark. Oh, and incase you're wondering about any limitation to its length, I took a screenshot today with a resolution of 1263 x 41670. More than 40 screens down.

Nero 6.6.0.18 Custom install thanks to VCBlackBox's NCab.

Here is the exact process I go through to increase a person's performance. 1. Disable unneeded Services (with a reg file I made) and start-up entries. Even consider switching programs if they are resource-hoggers. 2. Disable all visual effects except for "show windows contents while dragging". 3. Set the page file initial value to the same as the max value. Reboot. 4. Delete all the files in the Prefetch folder. 5. Use CCleaner to clean out crap. 6. Clean out the registry using CCleaner, JV16, Ace Utilities, TuneUp Utilities, RegSeeker, whatever. 7. Compact the registry with NTRegOpt.exe. 8. Defragment with PerfectDisk v7.0.

I still think 8 GBs is a waste regardless of what the user does on his home PC.

My name basically means to be uplifted by God and to become strong. Strong willed, etc. I'm not religious but I can't help the Biblical meaning...
-
8 GBs of RAm for a home PC is a waste, period.

I don't need special ties to organize my wires. I know how to intelligently wrap twist ties around them. I even combine twist-ties for thicker cables. Works fine for me.

Post Pictures and Specifications of your computer here!
Jeremy replied to ripken204's topic in Hardware Hangout
I'd post the front of my case, but mine's the same as ripken's except for the fan controller. I took the screw out so I can slid it out a bit for that picture, and since then I've also removed that bottom HD slider (black thing) on the upper chamber in the front.

Looks like a pretty enormous case for the little bit you have in there. Not bad. Here is mine, althought I have made a slight change to the cabling... it is more out of the way now... PC #1 PC #2 PC #3

TeqGuy, every registry cleansing I have done so far, it has made a backup automatically. I find the features useful, actually. When under 300 KBs, bloat isn't something I characterize a freeware tool by. You're being far too picky. Loosen up.

"Ok...whoa....whoa...whoa.....whoa..... Louis, this isn't my Batman cup!" I just used RegSeeker, and, wow. First I was amazed by JV16 PowerTools (not free), then Ace Utilities (not free), and then TuneUp Utilities (not free), and now RegSeeker really takes its time, shows in-depth results, and is free. I'm never going to bother with a payware registry cleaner again. CCleaner and RegSeeker pwn! JV16 is skippy in its responsiveness sometimes, removes more than it should, and sometimes freezes completely, and isn't free. @TeqGuy, bloated, huh? Go look at Nero 7 before calling a small freeware tool like this bloated, especially since it's less than 300 KBs...

ComputerMan's such a n00b...

Wow, that's some deep insight. Thanks for that, teqguy.

The latest version of CCleaner removes more temp/cache/MRU for Windows and dozens of other applications than any other program I've seen yet, and allows for secure-wiping of files. All that built into a tiny program that's free... can't get any better than that.

Yeah, good points, Zxian, but I think common-sense, strict security policies and a hardware firewall would do more in the aid of preventing a user from becoming infected from a virus moreso than the actual anti-virus software. The signature files are, of course, to detect a wide variety of viruses incase one happens to become infected. Naturally, there are mixed views on this topic. Personally, I have 5 anti-virus programs. BitDefender, McAfree Virus Scan 2006, NOD32, Kaspersky, and Avast. From experience, I prefer a program that isn't an "all-in-one" type of thing. BitDefender, however, does have more features included besides the virus-scanner, but I choose it because it's #1 according to PCWorld, and in agreement with DigeratiPrime, it has the coolest GUI I've seen in an anti-virus. Users who are weary of process-excessive software might want to be cautious of BD, though. It has 8 processes running by default which consume approximately 80 MBs on RAM. Of course, you can always do what I do and stop, set to manual everything and delete the start-up entries and only run the anti-virus on occasion if you happen to download a strange archived file and become paranoid. But, if you have 1 GB of RAM and simply don't care about processes because you feel that as long as you are familiar with what shows as listed in Task Manager, that it can be left alone, then BitDefender seems like the best choice as far as what i have mentioned above goes. As far as signatures and virus-recognition goes, I'm not sure which anti-virus is the best in that respect. It's a combination of virus definitions, scanning options, user-friendliness, and other features that may appeal to users. Lol, like I said in the first paragraph... mixed views. Now I'm back where I started.
