  1. yes. Really... well, then I must try it. Soon as I get home (2 hours).
  2. The easiest way to go back to XP from Vista is: make sure if you have an image of your system when XP was installed. if you don't like Vista, reboot, boot to CD, restore image file, reboot, done. Cheers! The Power.... of Acronis True Image
  3. K-Lite Codec Pack, Windows Media Lite, Real Alternative Lite and QuickTime Alternative Lite. Does your codec pack do all that in one shot?

    nlite

Can you eleborate on that one? I'm not sure what that function is.
  5. Hey, that's not very nice. Don't wish death upon someone for being annoying. Maybe a smack in the face or stub their toe on a rock underwater, but not death. Hehehehe, funny version number.
  6. No way, he should be able to install it in any named subfolder of program files..Something else was wrong, but now we won't know since he fixed the problem by reinstalling OS.. Windows hiccup.

Try this - http://www.codeproject.com/win32/AntonioWinLock.asp Edit - Actually, that probably won't be of any help at all..
  8. Update within the programs themselves?
  9. I think there was something else wrong, because 'C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0" is the default.
  10. Hehehe, people try to convince themselves of many things just to feel more comfortable with the program they're using. Please don't interpret that as me saying O&O isn't a good program, I've never used it. My point is, Boot-Time Defragmenting (system files, page file, metadata, MFT, hibernation file) is necessary on occasion.
  11. We worship a god at this forum. That god's name is Search. Worship him well. Would it make a difference if I told you the god was actually female?

Pop the key off the keyboard?
  13. Once again, me bringing back an old topic but it's valid I think. I just don't like to create more threads than I have to. Anyway, when I open an .INF file, there's the [sourceDiskFiles] is it? It shows the list of files that make up the driver along with the INF and .CAT file. If I take just those files and put them in a folder with the INF and CAT files, is that essentially a driver backup? Or are there more files? When Double Driver or Driver Magician, or Driver Genius back up a driver, they are just scanning the INF file, right? It would be nice if someone on MSFN, namely Jcarle or Zxian or XPero could code a small program designed primarily for effective driver backup, especially without the need to have the driver installed first! Cheers, Jeremy
  14. Re-copy the contents of your XP CD to your harddrive. Open nLite and browse to the main directory so that the I386 folder is seen and the source is properly identified. When you get to the Remove Components page, whatever you want to keep, just make sure there isn't a checkmark next to it.
  15. I have AGP 8x card and if I would not import my AGP Filter I would get only AGP 1x. Ok, so anyone with PCI-E can remove these then... correct? Still it would be nice to have your above statement or something even more descriptive/eleborated from Nuhi implemented. Would be significantly more helpful.
  16. Try changing the path to just: C:\Program Files\Kaspersky
  17. Well, you know, it's different for everyone I guess. I'd probably blame your harddrive and not PerfectDisk. People have said Diskeeper is satan. People have said PerfectDisk is satan. People say maxtors suck. People say Windows sucks when they have trojan viruses and worms running wild. Whose really responsible is a mystery, I guess.
  18. Well, even though it may have the analysis thing wrong for you, I'd still do a SmartPlacement defrag on your drive, especially if it's 80% fragmented!
  19. What are 'AGP Filters' exactly? I think some descriptions of the drivers should be changed/updated to let newcomers know exactly what they are. Take 'AGP Filters' for example. It just says they are the default AGP filters in Windows XP. What are they used for. If I remove them, what will not work afterwards? Stuff like that...

  21. PerfectDisk 8 vs. Diskeeper 10 (PDF) Another one.
  22. Did you download the "Windows Media Lite"?
  23. Or switch to the wonderful and incredibly fast world of torrents.
