File Cache? You mean the stuff CCleaner cleans out? Of course most people tweak things to those extents. I wouldn't ever leave the Services alone, I meant I wouldn't remove them with nLite, but I would still disable and set to manual most of them. Pagefile, I just set the initial and max value the same. I have 2GBs of RAM so I usually set my page file to 1GB or so.

Which tweaks are we talking about here?

Save every cent you get/earn? Live with what computer power you have and use programs like CCleaner and Diskeeper 2007 to keep it defragmented and clean? You'd be surprised how much junk sticks around on peoples' machines. I had a guy just the other day get excited because I cleaned up his start-up list and junk/temp/cache and his system shutdown faster and took much less time to load up. Dell sells someone a 3 GHz desktop with 512 MBs of RAM, but due to all the absolute crap they pre-install on the systems, it lags worse than 3000ms ping online gaming! Solution? Reformat immediately after you have it up and running.

Considering you're bringing back to life a near-2year old topic, that's not surprising. Kaspersky takes less resources than NOD32, I've tested them both in VMware Workstation. And in my opinion, Kaspersky's detection rate and GUI are better than NOD32's as well. www.av-comparatives.org http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/defaul...d=82&mnu=82

What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?
Jeremy replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Kaspersky has even less memory usage than NOD32. -
This topic has gone way off topic, with nothing more than throat-gagging misinformed, narrow-minded and prejudiced points of view, as to be expected. Not all companies out there are in it for money. There are a lot of companies that are in it for the people they service. Anyway, if you don't like Windows, than stop using and complaining about the **** OS. This is getting absolutely retarded! They are just Services! If you have 1-2 GBs of RAM, what do you care?! Just leave them the hell alone? Let go of your need for absolute control and dominance! Sounds like Microsoft, doesn't it? Well, whether we like to admit it or not, we have that in common, don't we? The road this topic has taken is just pitiful and it irritates me. *Goes to do something actually worth talking about once it's done* Edit - Cluberti, nice post, though.

A source of reference would've been nice, that's all.

Old monitor? Old video card, overheating? Update the video drivers? Use Ultimate Boot CD 3.4 to test your RAM and harddrive. I'd suggest also copying all the files from your system to another PC or drive at least, incase this issue gets worse.

When you change motherboards, you're changing the hardware configuration, which Windows saves each time it's installed. As Prey said, just do a repair install, possibly needing to install updates again. After that, you should be good to go.

Problems With Symantec Antivirus 2005
Jeremy replied to zubi55's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Consider it a godsend for your PC not to cooperate with Symantec/Norton anymore. Sure they detect a lot of viruses with the massive definitions databases they have, but they are highly problematic and resource-heavy. There is actually a freeware tool that detects more viruses than Symantec, and it's more suitable for home PCs than something like Symantec. It's called AntiVir (That's the direct download link.) If you're willing to pay for anti-virus the two overall best products are Kaspersky and NOD32. Don't believe me? www.av-comparatives.org. Best site for comparative/stats on how anti-virus products perform. There are several things you can do to pre-secure yourself. If you plan on searching the web, download and install freeware Sandboxie (latest version). Run your browser Sandboxed, grab a nasty bunch of malware, close the browser, right-click on the Sandboxie icon, click 'Empty Sandbox'... where'd the malware go? Also, don't open unknown e-mails (no matter what) hell, call/IM the person if it's known and ask them if they just e-mailed you. Don't click everything on a site, but as I said, if you want to, run it Sandboxed. Get a good router to protect yourself from incoming debris. Use harddrive imaging software! Norton Ghost, Acronis true Image. Things like that. -
Another meaningless response...

I received this error message: I believe it's because I integrated Ryan's pack, because it said 'updating danim.dll' and it stayed like that until the ISO was finished.

That's why you use NCab if you're using v6 and grab Nero Lite for Nero 7. Loads slowly? Nero is the best, I've burned countless CDs/DVDs, never a coaster (provided you don't have several things running in the background otherwise you'll get buffer underflows regardless of what burning program you use) and it loads instantly. It may be because it has all that bundled software normally, for which you can relieve yourself of by grabbing the Lite version, or you may need to defragment your harddrive.

www.free-codecs.com K-Lite Codec Pack, there's Standard, Full, and Mega. There's also Lite versions of Windows Media, RealPlayer and QuickTime which allow you to playback those filetypes without needing those players actually installed, just thought I would throw that in there.

Please provide the source from which you obtaining this information since you state it as if it is fact. Many of my friends including myself use Opera latest version and it passes Acid2 tests fine, no 'rendering' issues.

I have my directories set to another drive and looked in that folder because I am well-aware that programs store configuration info in there, but it was empty. Try rebooting and insert it again, I've had that happen a couple of times, granted it was a different message, but I've had Windows not recognising it before.
-
Yeah, nLite seems to ignore most of the tweaks I've used, so I don't use it to tweak anymore.
-
It's called setting your CD-ROM before the harddrive in the Boot priority in your BIOS.

You deserve to be shot. Hahaha, just kidding. But, seriously, no animal brutality. And my fiancee just loves this expansion, the house is full of kittens, they are so cute. Do I sound like a woman here?
-
Well, uTorrent doesn't exactly save the info to an external file like .INI, and since it's only one EXE file, he probably deleted the older one, threw in the knew one and forgot to reset the directory paths. Simple to fix.
-
Well, let's take the Error Reporting Service for example... Disable it and you can't send the error info to M$. So what? Just Google the error message and you're bound to have the solution in a few minutes if you try researching the problem.

In-game ads? Hahahaha, what next. Wait until Ageis PhysX takes off and maps become completely dynamic and you can destroy everything (Like Worms 3D ), and take those ads out! Un... unless they make it 99% dynamic!..... lol...
