  1. well, I guess all the smart people here just don't know....

    hijack help

I had this happen on a customers win2000 machine I ran spybot, adaware, http://housecall.trendmicro.com/start_corp.asp , norton etc nothing but a backup, format and reinstall fixed it
  3. I like to create an iso from the official Microsoft CDIMAGE links to it here http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/finish.htm put the winnt.sif file in the i386 folder, edit the batch file from the download in above link so it points to your XPCD folder wherever you created it. once it's the correct scripting, then run the batch file, it will create an iso image file of your folders, bootable just like the original XP CD. then find the iso image file, right click it and open with NERO.exe it'll take care of the rest
  4. edit the line in your install batch file to read start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Applications\OfficeXP\setup.exe TRANSFORMS="%systemdrive%\Install\Applications\OfficeXP\Unattended.MST" /qb- That right there should work as the C:\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\install\Applications\OfficeXP\setup.exe and the C:\XPCD\$OEM$\$1\install\Applications\OfficeXP\Unattended.MST copy over to the C:\install\Applications\OfficeXP folder when oemprecopy copies the files to the hard drive
  5. First, I'd check to see that your files are in the proper place as you have scripted. Now, as far as the winnt.bat file, where is that being called from. I'm not familiar with that, maybe it autoruns. I call my batch file from the winnt.sif file so it runs on first full boot. [GuiRunOnce] A:\useraccounts.cmd A:\install.cmd I've not had problems running it form there. I also call my regtweaks from the install batch file BTW, you don't need to call your files from the floppy, I just set mine up that way so I can modify more easily: usernames, passwords, serials and customize what software gets installed according to customers needs
  6. I'm a fan of Zonelab's ZoneAlarm Pro for firewall and McAfee actually did a good job on their SpamKiller I've managed to get the early one that doesn't require a yearly subscription
  7. well, this is off topic, but I've nary a virii got past norton and I don't trust grisoft AVG, sure it's lighter, but doesn't seem to monitor as much stuff
  8. not unless it's a table in a naughty dance bar
  9. well, I've used "bloatware" Norton for years, I've never seen it cause a problem like this, and seriously doubt it is norton seems like something went wrong in the office installation to me and it's trying to finish up the installation. You didn't delete the C:\MSOCache folder did you?
  10. maybe for a temporary solution, you could use system restore I'm not a big fan of system restore, but it might help in a case like this
  11. that **** page triggered spybot for me
  12. I'd like to know where you got the SP1 that didn't pass the logo testing Not from microsoft I'm assuming. That could have been the whole source of your problems Get all updates from windows update, it's safe that way
  13. my favorite is RegCleaner by Jouni Vuorio It allows automatic registry cleanup it has an uninstall section where you can uninstall like that add/remove applet in windows, but say an uninstall gets corrupted, then you can actually remove that item from the list Also, it has a nice interface to remove items from the startup This is nice as it groups all the things that start with windows in 1 place instead of 4 You also can sort registry keys by author which is useful for getting rid of stuff that doesn't go away during uninstall
  14. http://www.runtime.org has a software program called getdataback that works quite well, however, it's a bit expensive. I bailed me out after an accidental partition deletion
  15. I've seen similar things happen with adware infections. Similar, but not identical The continuous rebooting was there, but not the BSOD, at least not that I saw in my situation I'd probably boot from a BartPE disk, save my data to an external drive or some other media, and format check out http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ for more info
  16. I'm looking for a software solution for a company It's not a large company, but it's a fairly complex setup. Right now what they have is called Techgap Distribution Systems running on a Unix server and it's fairly complex and not end user freindly. So, they are looking for a solution that is stable, secure and user freindly. They are a Deutz dealer, outsourse some things, build some things in-house, plus invoice some things on wholesale and retail level. Basically I was told that it would be nice to track engine inventory by serial number. Also track who owns the engine, whether it's them or the Deutz people, and also be able to track what bank note paid for the engine and if that note is paid or not. As far as parts inventory, they need software to track parts and have triggers for inventory order if the parts get too low or warnings if parts levels on certain things are overstocked. Multiple vendors capability for parts would also be needed. Also, they need an easier way to track both add and pulled inventory. I would like to see a barcode and scanner setup myself as that would make it easier for the shop guys, and would help keep it accurate. It would also help if said system could track bin and aisle numbers to assist in locating hard to find parts. If somebody knows of a workable solution, I'd love to hear it. Even if it means seperating their invoicing/accounting from the manufacturing and inventory, I'd like to hear any ideas Now, to top it all off, if somebody knows how to import the existing data from the old to the new, I'll buy you a cigar
  17. OK, OK, technicality here I was speaking of domains, as most offices have the NT networks set up on domains. But as far as an end user, if all you want to do is surf, email, play games, burn CDs etc. the home version is fine. I haven't found it to be any less stable than pro even tho I've heard rumors of it I think that's all PEBKAC
  18. I also don't understand why gpedit isn't in the home version. I like to use that to disable msmsg
  19. I had the same problem running an ATI Expert2000 graphics card while running the irc program excursion. happened repeatedly. Can you reproduce this problem, or is it random?
  20. yeah, there are differences Pro can log onto an NT network it can encrypt files there are a couple of other things, but those 2 are the main differences BTW, if your original disk is ruined, it is legal to use a copy as long as you have the original license
  21. I agree with that, and possibly make the spy/adware definitions part of windows critical updates Of course, it should be an optional component for the sake of those who would rather have something different
  22. I only have a lightning bolt and a nickname inked Probably wouldn't do it again if I had it to do over, but I'm OK with it. Just say no to lasers
  23. As long as they don't start charging for it, I'll think it's OK or maybe great even. It did find stuff Adaware didn't, but then again, the things it found I perceived to be relatively harmless B)
  24. I'm just p***ed this poll doesn't have 3Mbit connection, cuz that's what I've got
  25. nice work then The knowledge base is very helpful, but kinda like searching this forum you gotta enter the right search terms
