  1. different motherboards use different beep codes, but most times beeps indicate improper cpu clock, no cpu detected, or a memory problem I suspect you have either a failing part, or an improperly set up system
  2. check for ad/spyware too, I've seen that do some really funky stuff
  3. it comes from lots of web based games from aim, yahoo and other gaming sites. it's adware that pays for the free games.
  4. It would help to know if he is running SP2 or SP1, but his asus board should have the USB driver on CD, and XP should find that. I'm wondering if he isn't using the front USB ports, and has the + & - data wires crossed
  5. well, the candy cane pipes worked for me but I hate the pipes screensaver
  6. XP is better than 2000 anyway, it starts up and shuts down faster. so I'd upgrade the OS then get the media player
  7. Actually, you can borrow a freind's cd an that is an original Microsoft OEM home or pro depending on your version, and use your license/install serial number. That keeps it legal because you do have the license, and it makes it load without the crap
  8. best thing about incredimail is that it has no recovery feature when windows crashes so don't us incredimail cuz it sucks that's all the help I know. however, you may be able to uninstall it, then use a program like regcleaner to clean all the crap out of the windows registry, then try to reinstall it again
  9. don't sweat it, just send your friend who need invites to others who have them there's a whole thread on it somewhere plus, I have 4 invites left

    ebay use

I've used ebay for probably 5 years now Yep, common sense is the rule to follow BUT, read the shipping/handling stuff good priced items, specially with puter stuff usually whacks you on the shipping. like $30 for a $17 computer case and that's common, just know to look for that and read the description in detail
  11. that's true, all you do need to do is insert a floppy with the winnt.sif file on it for any windows XP or 2000 OS however, to install all the other common software that takes all the time is what takes forever anyway, so why not include that as well? basically, I put the follow lines in my cmdlines.txt file in the $OEM$ folder: [COMMANDS] "a:\useraccounts.cmd" then I put my user accounts.cmd, autologin.reg, winnt.sif, and my batch files on the floppy just don't forget to change the line in the winnt.sif file to the name/location of your batch file to install windows I've attached a zip file that contains all the files on my floppy so you can use them for an example Nice thing about this is, you can edit and modify installations such as rem out a line of a particular installation doesn't require all of your software that you are capable of installing
  12. Yep, that's right, and it's exactly what I do
  13. that works only if you want the same user created on all computers. otherwise you burn a lot of DVD to create one for individual use that's why my configuration info goes on a floppy
  14. as long as you have administrator rights, go to the user accounts in the control panel Create your user name, login to make sure you have all the necessary shortcuts, and transfer your documents and settings, then delete the other user account I'd recommend not deleting the account files until you know you have your emails and stuff in the new account though
  15. I scripted my cd to look to a floppy for the winnt.sif (xp and 2000 do this by default) Then I pointed my winnt.sif file to the batch files and registry hacks also loaded on the floppy this way it's quite EZ to have a single home version DVD, as well as a Pro version All you need to change is the serial #, computer name, and the login info as long as it's scripted read from the floppy, it's all text and if there's intrest, I'll post my files for you to check out
  16. I've had no problems with SP2 one Pro or Home versions Other than the annoyance of an extra click to install plugins, all is well
  17. MARIUS CLAUDIU has an invite waiting. and yeah, I'm not charging for 'em so why is anyone else?
  18. My rig is just a plain workhorse AMD 3200XP 512 PC3200 120GB Maxtor CDRW & DVD+-RW etc etc No fancy pics cuz it's not a fancy system, but it's stable as hell with and Asus board in it
  19. www.google.com www.sharemania.com www.gmail.com www.windowsupdate.com or something like that and 1 for your consideration http://www.dvdshrink.org for a program that I think is better than DVD X-Copy
  20. sent MARIUS CLAUDIU an email, so all he has to do is email me and I can invite him
  21. not sure of the correct syntax but seems to me you should be able to copy your favorites folder to your XP files in "$OEM$\$1\%userprofile%\Favorites" dunno, haven't tried it, but seems it should work
  22. I've still got 4 invites left
  23. it wasn't working for a weekend or so, but I've had it work again, so we are in business again

  25. First tho, I'd have to figure out how to install APT
