  1. Opera 11.60 is fine. The most annoying bug with those last versions for me, is the loss of the drag&drop to desktop to create an Internet Shortcut. I didn't found any way except manually to create one now .
  2. loblo, The version of quartz.dll included in your patch, is 6.05.2600.1316! Where will I find the 6.5.1.914 one?
  3. Thx loblo, good to know! I will try it. You didn't noticed any side-effect? mspaint.exe 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) is working just fine I have deleted it, because it was always creating several empty 'Help' folders. I think one place was %WinDir%\Application Data. EDIT: I have found MSPAINT.EXE 5.1.2600.5918 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.091216-2054) which is working equally fine, but I don't find any difference between those 3 versions: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) 5.1.2600.5918 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.091216-2054) Maybe only security fixes?
  4. This freeware: OperaCacheView v1.37 can partially help you to find what & where Opera is storing those files. OperaCacheView is a small utility that reads the cache folder of Opera Web browser, and displays the list of all files currently stored in the cache. For each cache file, the following information is displayed: URL, Content type, File size, Last accessed time, and last modified time in the server. You can easily select one or more items from the cache list, and then extract the files to another folder, or copy the URLs list to the clipboard. HTH Charles .
  5. You need to run the EXE file with the /X switch to extract the files. For some patches it has to be done on a Win2k/XP/2k3 machine. HTH
  6. Xeno86, I have installed last KernelEx 4.5.2 this WE and so far so good. I didn't got new findings, but thank you so much to keep this awesome work alive!
  7. Hi, same thing for me I have reported it yesterday on the Avast forum : http://forum.avast.c...p?topic=88452.0 Interesting: A first VirusTotal scan is reported on the Avast forum, from 2011-11-15 finding 2 items: File name: KernelEx-4.5.2.exe Submission date: 2011-11-15 15:52:24 (UTC) Result: 2 /41 (4.9%) Avast 6.0.1289.0 2011.11.15 Win32:SuspBehav-J [Heur] GData 22 2011.11.15 Win32:SuspBehav-J I have found a 2nd one from 2011-11-16 with same result: File name: KernelEx-4.5.2.exe Submission date: 2011-11-16 17:09:30 (UTC) Result: 2 /42 (4.8%) Avast 6.0.1289.0 2011.11.16 Win32:SuspBehav-J [Heur] GData 22 2011.11.16 Win32:SuspBehav-J But I tried a 3rd one just now, and everything is clear: File name: KernelEx-4.5.2.exe Submission date: 2011-11-16 22:51:23 (UTC) Result: 0/ 42 (0.0%) Avast 6.0.1289.0 2011.11.16 - GData 22 2011.11.16 - Same thing on Virusscan.Jotti: Filename: KernelEx-4.5.2.exe Status: 0 out of 19 scanners reported malware. Scan taken on: Wed 16 Nov 2011 23:31:22 (CET) So, this issue may be solved .
  8. You're right Drugwash, but it is a regression in relation to Windows 98 'plain vanilla'. So, my only question was to Tihiy, if he is able to fix it. EDIT: I tried your link. It opens easily here in Opera 11, and Maxthon with IE6.
  9. Yes I know and I am also using Greenfish Icon Editor Pro for that. But I have so much of these bmp-icons... This 'feature' is built-in with Windows, you may even display a thumbnail of your bmp instead of the regular bitmap icon with a registry setting. But the point here, is that it is behaving perfectly with 'Big icons' checked, and suddenly failing when it's unchecked. I don't get this glitch with a true icon including only one size.
  10. I was using VLC for years (under my rock ) and I was told that it is the only all-in-one player Win98 compatible ... I didn't wanted to install to much codecs because they may mess up stability. For PotPlayer, I have a display bug with the 'out of the box' settings. But in any event, his memory footprint is higher than KMP.
  11. Tihiy, there's a bug with Revolutions Pack 9.7.2: I use several icons made with a bmp file, I rename with 'ico' extension. Normally, the background become transparent when it is displayed. If 'Big icons' is ticked in RPConfig, it is fine. But when I untick it, the background for all these icons appears! Is there any workaround??
  12. You're not running Potplayer on Windows98/ME or are you? Reason I am asking is that you operating system seems to be 2003 and that the only gripe I have with PotPlayer on Windows ME is that I can't access any configuration page in it aside from the initial one and that your screenshot shows a page I can't access. With Win98SE and KernelEx installed, PotPlayer is launching but images are ugly. I have try several video settings, but still the same problem. I stay with KMPlayer (proposed by duffy98 here ). Very-very light, and images are splendid!
  13. Same thing here, ...but still calling home Not a big deal, I'm using ZA also. As I have said, the whole folder including the Ask toolbar components has been deleted. In Options\Preferences\Decoder Usage\Internal Video Decoder\WMV , I have change from DirectX Media Objects to LibCodec, ...and everything is just fine now!
  14. Nice find duffy98 ! albeit it belongs to the KernelEx Apps thread. I have tried KMPlayer today, and I'm impressed B) KMP 3.0.0.1442_R2 ( vs VLC 1.0.3 ) is obviously better : for the image, sound, frame rate, memory usage (25-26 MB vs 40-50 MB), ... You can open the exe with 7-Zip and don't need any install. Just delete the $PLUGINSDIR folder, and you will get rid of your Ask Toolbar although he is still phoning home. My only problem is that he's freezing (and then crashing) if I try to make it read Wmv files
  15. Which one? The list is just above:
  16. If the program installs using KernelEx (most of the time you don't need to set a specific compatibility), I would be surprised if your ISP care of what OS you are using (they get their money, after all). Only if the KernelEx' default compatibility mode is not working, you should try in a specific one. Another option could be to send a spoofed identity from your browser. I don't think they can know more...
  17. I don't know for what purpose Resource Hacker is included (it is not proposed in the INFEX.INI), but FWIW, a new version is available which add the support for Png images & icons. Resource Hacker: 3.6.0 I have KernelEx installed so I cannot be sure if it is working with the plain Windows 9x
  18. The new VBVM60.EXE 6.0.9821 is not working (at least) for me. I had to manually use the VBVM60.INF. EDIT: BTW, the link More info on the 11-1-2011 Update page is wrong. You have to use the one from the main Visual Basic (VB) page: More info.
  19. PROBLEMCHYLD, I am using MSPAINT.EXE 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) for years without a glitch. Version 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) seems to be as good.
  20. Do you mean the UberSkin themes [skins] format documentation?
  21. Haven't found any direct link. I have uploaded mine at: Memload2.0.zip Size: 28.2 KB ( 28 972 B ) MD5: 3c5d057977f29ca9ba3eaa0e6400bf05 Enjoy
  22. A bit complicated, only for the RAM Do you know Memload 2.0? It is hard to find, but I can upload it if necessary (28 KB zipped).
