  1. @ t6ti00: our tricks are almost the same. You should try to delete the keys (after backup) because you are not suppose to specify a value if it is the Windows default value. Those regsitry keys are usually used to indicate a different value for system icons. If it is not working, do a right-click on desktop -> Properties -> Effect tab (or 'Plus! tab' ?) -> click 'Default Icon' for each one you want. HTH Charles.
  2. Following of post # 1016 I will have to reinstall KernelEx RC 5. I do as soon I find the time, maybe tomorrow and come back with report. OK, here is my report: Starting from KernelEx 4.5 RC 4 -> printing on HP LaserJet 1022 is fine. Uninstall KernelEx -> printing is fine. Reinstall version RC 5 -> Scanner Epson Perfection 2000 USB is running fine. -> once again same problem (freezing) when I try to print from Word 2000 (9.0.8961 SP-3). I have to do Ctrl+Alt+Del to go out. I have uploaded a few stuff (ressources in Task Manager, Filemeon & Regmon log): After several minutes, I get a page printed with only the few first words of my printing try (but nothing else). -> printing from IE6SP1, Maxthon or Opera 10.63 seems without flaw presently. Replacement of KernelEx.dll(RC5) by KernelEx.dll(RC4) using a WININIT.ini and reboot, doesn't change anything. I have even made another try by replacing the default content of the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\KernelEx' registry key from RC5 by the content from RC4 (in addition of KernelEx.dll replacement), but it doesn't help. At last, new uninstall of KernelEx 4.5 RC 5 and downgrade to RC 4, ... and once again printing is smooth & instant! Something else: if I go to Control Panel->System, my printer appears in error(= yellow question mark) , with stated in Properties (free translation): 'Device state: Driver not installed (Code 28).' It is the same with no KernelEx installed, RC4 or RC5. I have also tried to unplug the printer from the USB2 card to a USB1 port (and reboot) but it doesn't change. ... but the fact is that it had always been working fine like that in all circumstances. HTH Charles.
  3. Thanks to take time to look in my problem! The drivers are the last version (at least, I found) to be Win 9x compatible. If you mean to tick 'Disable KernelEx extensions' in compatibility tab, I have try it without reboot but it doesn't help. What am I suppose to do to know that? With a light doc file, printing only is freezing with the printer icon remaining in systray. If I try with a heavier one, all system is hanging. SPOOLSS.DLL version 4.10.2223 French 103 KB I can upload it if you need. I will have to reinstall KernelEx RC 5. I do as soon I find the time, maybe tomorrow and come back with report.
  4. All the drivers I have installed were released for Windows 9x As I said, I have Epson drivers for a printer and a scanner installed, but the problem appears with an HP printer. All are USB 1 connected.
  5. Thanks a lot for the head up! I have uploaded here the new file: l3codecx.7z
  6. Tihiy, 'Natural file sorting' doesn't seem to work here too: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer -> don't have such key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer -> don't have the value "NoStrCmpLogical" HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced -> don't have the value "SeparateProcess" HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer -> don't have the value "DesktopProcess"
  7. Hi Tihiy, thanks to take an interest to this problem. I have uploaded 3 Drivers: - EPSON Printer Stylus Photo 870 [version 5.0cF_9598Me]: I don't use anymore this printer (it is not even connected) but driver is still installed; - EPSON Scanner Perfection 1200 USB [Twain winme version 5.5g]; - HP Printer Laser Jet 1020-1022-PCL5-win9x-fr at that link: http://dl.free.fr/hwYGSpFsd I am right now with KernelEx 4.5 RC4 installed, but if necessary I could reinstall RC5 and try to: * uninstall of the EPSON Printer driver, to see if it helps, * use the EPSON Scanner to know if KernelEx is freezing it also.
  8. Hi Pari_IT, did you try to uninstall KernelEx and then reInstall the former version 4.5 RC 4? I don't have any printing problem with this one.
  9. Thanks MDGx . As reported here, I have a whole list of such sites. On the other hand, even after disabling javascript (from inside Maxthon), the crash is still present.
  10. Hi t6ti00, if this bug is still boring you, look for the keys: For 'Network Area': HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Classes\CLSID\{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D} For 'My Computer': HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Classes\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} For 'My Docs': HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Classes\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103} For 'Recycle Bin': HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} They are overwriting RPConfig settings. If you find them, you will have to delete them (Backup FIRST!) or at least the related key: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Classes\CLSID\{ ... }\DefaultIcon HTH
  11. Bug report: Last version 4.5 RC 5 is breaking my printing (printer HP Laser Jet 1022). Print freezing with Word 2200 or Maxthon (IE6SP1) Idem with Ctras.dll renamed in Ctras_dll Here are Dr. Watson logs: Uninstalling RP 9.6 (or downgrading to version 9.6.6) doesn't help No problem to print a test page from the driver Uninstall of KernelEx, or ReInstall of version 4.5RC4 solves the problem! New Uninstall of KernelEx and reinstall of version 4.5 RC 5, and then 'Disable KernelEx extensions' (without reboot) is not helping.
  12. I would say the best way to restore the entire registry is in pure DOS, from outside Windows. Read in the 'Revolutions Pack 9.6' thread post #527 and post #528 for some examples. ...and of course on the MDGx site! : REGISTRY BACKUP + RESTORE HTH Charles.
  13. So, I was wrong! My try was with an older version of KernelEx. I have made new tests, with last 4.5 RC5. As loblo said, install of version 11.5.9.615 is crashing, but the plugin is working. The program automatically downloaded a few files in %WINDIR%\Application Data\Macromedia\Shockwave Player\xtras\download\MacromediaInc at the first try with a game I have on my HD, and gave me a 2nd similar crash at the end of download! Everything seems fine afterward. No registry trick used. KernelEx 4.5 RC5 with default settings. Those crashes are related to SCC.dll which is the Symantec Criteria Checker . Last version not crashing during the install process is 11.5.7.609, but he has the same 2nd crash. The 'Symantec Criteria Checker' is called there SYMCCHECKER.DLL . I have checked that the files and folders installed are similar with the 2 versions (despite of the install crash with 11.5.9.615). BTW (and this is safe, I'm doing that already for years with the version 10): * In the '%WINDIR%\SYSTEM\Adobe\Shockwave 11' and '%WINDIR%\SYSTEM\Macromed\Shockwave 10' folders, I have renamed gi.dll, gt.exe & gtapi.dll to gi_dll, gt_exe & gtapi_dll because they are part of the Google Toolbar and are useless! * The file '%WINDIR%\SYSTEM\Adobe\Shockwave 11\Shockwave Log' can also be deleted, but it is recreated everytime you use Shockwave! * In the registry, some keys can also be changed, like for instance [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Shockwave 11\AutoUpdate] @="y" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Shockwave 11\collectstats] @="y" from @="y" to @="n" to block some annoying behaviors HTH Charles.
  14. They are really better, but FWIW, I would have use a value of 4: HTH
  15. Last Shockwave Player version I was able to install in Windows 98 SE (even with KernelEx) is 10.2.0.23. Even 10.3.0.24 doesn't want to run. Edit: That was an older version of KernelEx. But on the other hand, I never encountered a message asking me to upgrade to display any animation.
  16. Thanks for your work! - BLACK_RESTOREGLYPH_BMP.bmp is missing - IMHO there could be a glitch (I'm not sure) when one maximize a window: the edges are no more seen and the top right buttons are cropped. EDIT: BLUE_RESTOREGLYPH_BMP.bmp and LUNA_RESTOREGLYPH_BMP.bmp are the same. So, maybe we only need to make a third bitmap called BLACK_RESTOREGLYPH_BMP.bmp or to modify the skin_Black.ini that it will use one of these two.
  17. A search in this forum would have given you the answer. Silverlight & Windows 98SE
  18. I had reported a few month ago that the WMP's skins'transparency is broken with some of the Revolutions Pack's skins. In posts #331 and post #383, you can have a look at screenshots: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=29333 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=29334 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=29908 After more research, I have found that the problem is coming from the theme's skin.ini file: if any value of TransCorn is set in the [Global] section, the problem appears. (Could be because it is looking for magenta color to process transparency?) With all RP's skins with no 'TransCorn=' line (or maybe TransCorn=0), there is no problem. You can even see that in the RPConfig's panel: if the top corners of the skin are round, that means it uses this TransCorn feature. Is it hard to fix? BTW Tihiy, the bug with Recycle bin I reported in post #409 giving me an 'Access impossible to %c' error when emptying it, is definitely gone since (at least) 9.6.6 build.
  19. Same thing here: using KernelEx in Windows 98 SE with ZoneAlarm version 5.5.062.004 and never had a glitch.
  20. I have installed KernelEx 4.5 RC5. Running fine, but I don't find any improvement in VLC. Like previously I can't use any version after VLC 1.0.3.
  21. OffTopic: the best program to save registry with Win98 is here: SauveWin 1.5 [EDIT: english translation is here: http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.masef.com%2Ffreewares%2Fsauvewin.htm ] It is a Pif file that automatically save the registry files and 11 others sytem critical files to be able to restore them in any case from DOS. I always have 1 (or more) folder with my last stable version. For the rb00x.cab files, you can edit %WIN%\SCANREG.INI to - increase the BackupCopies number - modify the Backup directory path - add more files to include in the Backup cab There is an MS application SREDIT.EXE to do that without opening the ini file: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm http://support.microsoft.com/?id=183603 HTH Charles.
  22. Yes, the new build is better. With the first one some menus were messy in Opera. Now they are perfect
  23. Lol! I don't use so often IE 6, my main browser in Windows 98 is Opera BUT there is a few reasons why I am still keeping Internet Explorer in work: - I don't use IE 6 itself (which is completely blocked by my FW) but his engine through Maxthon. I love this program, I'm very accustomed to it and he has several functions and plugins that I was not able to find (at least as simple) in Opera - it is faster to launch, faster to read flash videos - a few sites are still asking Internet explorer instead of Opera (like bank, for tax return, ...). For them I use a spoofed User Agent making them think it is IE8 - as Fredledingue said in another thread, the main annoying experience was javascript controls that may completely freeze it, but his incredible tweak has solve this problem For security reasons, which doesn't concern that much the old OSes (especially when you take a few precautions). From me too but I have to wait until this WE to find the time to install and play a bit with it.
  24. I have reported in the MDIE6CU thread at post #100 that a fews links (They are increasingly!) are crashing IE6 SP1 with a MSHTML.DLL error. Other links may crash not only IE6 but also Windows 98 SE, like this one: http:// www. europe1. fr/ [ Careful!] I have a whole list of them that I maintain to avoid them in IE6. Could it be possible to relieve this problem with KernelEx?
