I have a permanent error with last MSHTML.DLL version 6.00.2800.1649 (French) at this page: http://www.dico-des-mots.com/definitions/wesh-gros.html and all similar page in that site. It is crashing my Internet Explorer 6 (with Maxthon). The page is opening fine in Opera. I have tried to disable javascript but it is still the same. I have also tried several compatibility mode (or disabling) KernelEx, but it is not helping. Previous version 6.00.2800.1646 of MSHTML.DLL, is doing the same thing. Could anyone try this page, to tell me what he get there?

If you replace the first line by: REGEDIT4 (instead of Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00) and leave 2 empty lines at the end of the file your regfile will be read, and Windows 9x will create the registry keys but the "compatibility" will depend of if the software is able to use those keys in this OS.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers
CharlesF replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
98SEUser, you are actually on the Windows 9x Forum . Last 7-Zip Portable is working fine on my Windows 98SE PC [Edit: Could need KernelEX. I didn't tried without it.], and it has also WinRAR 3.51 installed which accept .7z to unpacking Otherwise, some sites online can make the conversion for you like Media Convert or Zamzar HTH -
Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers

You can find here the portable version of 7-Zip (= no install): 7-Zip Portable This is required only to compress in this format. To unpack files the majority of common softwares like WinZip or WinRar will definitely do the job. -
BTW, you will find here: http://rp9.win98.nl/ , several skins that have been done already .

Read this thread: YouTube no longer works with Flash 7/Win95 [solved] or simply install KernelEx: last version allow to install (among others) last Flash Player on Windows 98

I had supposed it was RP-linked only because of my misunderstanding of Xeno86 changelog. Test of VLC 1.1.2: Zip file, no installer, C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\vlc (of previous version) deleted first * launching OK * play mp3 & wma, but: - react very slowly (in comparison with 1.0.3) - the cursor to show progression & to go further is not working, - the graphic scale to raise volume is very slow to react, - in Graphic Equalizer the cursors are not moving but working, - I have to double-click to change of tab (instead of simple-click), ... * doesn't play wav, mid, mp4, wmv, ... * when I close it (after opening at least 1 file), it stays "frozen" in TaskManager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). I have to kill it manually. Dr.Watson snapshot: Test of VLC 1.1.4: no installer, C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\vlc (of previous version) deleted first -> same behaviour, and - if I click the Stop button, I can't restart the music using the Start button.

KernelEx App Compatibility Database
CharlesF replied to Th3_uN1Qu3's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Opera new release! 10.63 running fine here I have KernelEx 4.5 RC 4 installed, but maybe run even without it EDIT after a few tests: Very good build. Faster to launch, faster to open pages ...and stable. The bug of the startbar that was not displaying icons is gone! -
Tihiy, what version of VLC are you using? I can't run any after 1.0.3. And what is your OS: 98 SE, Me, 98SE2ME, ... ? Xeno86 says in KernelEx v4.5 RC 2 changelog that VLC 1.1.2 works only without RP9.
-
Have you got Revolutions Pack installed? Read in post #734: VLC 1.1 (with KernelEx) works only without RP9. As I said here, last version of VLC to give me good results (with RP9) is 1.0.3.

Certainly looks like this is what is hapenning. Btw, the non IE versions of Flash 10.1.85.3 and 10.2.161.23 Beta 2 both install and seem to run fine here. Not sure: previously when they wanted to beat off the 'Old Os' users, there were a clear message that the OS is not supported and the exe was rejecting to install. At least for me, Flash Player 10.1.85.3 seems to install correctly but no file is copied. Btw, I tried both ActiveX (IE) and plugin (Non IE) with various registry changes, and wasn't able to get anyone of them installed in version 10.1.85.3. (Didn't tried the 11.2 beta's).

How did you obtained the Flash10*.OCX? Universal Extractor doesn't extract any file. Did you got it from a Flash player already installed on another OS?

Finally, I have found the time to install KernelEx 4.5 RC4. It's a very nice build! Big thanks to Xeno86 & Tihiy! Fixed: Maxthon browser (freezing): it's perfect! Fixed: MSIMG32 warning and menu icon transparency issues in Opera 10.62: I'm not sure of what it means. Lack of transparency in Opera 10 is still here if I use the original 'standard_skin.zip' instead of the loblo fixed skin. Now working: VLC 1.1.2 (without RP9): VLC 1.1.x are NOT running for me, but I have Revolutions Pack 9.6.6 installed. Last version working fine is still 1.03 (no change). Flash Player ActiveX & Plugin: version 10.1.82.76 is installing & working fine, even without any registry trick. Unfortunately, I was NOT able to get version 10.1.85.3 installed, despite of any registry change I have tried (It says it is installing well, but actually doesn't install anything!). (OS is Win98SE with SP3.0 beta4).

Thanks for sharing those infos, Yushatak

Nice trick (could be useful). Working here also.
-
Thanks,. So, I will try it in a different folder
-
Is that build stable or bugged? Is it really better than 10.62 Final?
-
I would say in registry: [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StreamMRU] [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams] Every key (= number) keeps infos for a folder.

For desktop only (and not even for the Quicklaunch) I have sometimes every icons messed after a crash, and use it for that. I thought folders arrangement can be set from Folder options -> Display
-
I'm using IconLayout 1.0.0.1 from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit, for years with no problem. It's a dll (14 KB) adding 2 lines in right-click on any folder: - "Save Desktop Icon Layout" - "Restore Desktop Icon Layout" It saves the desktop icons position in a registry key: [HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\IconLayout] You can restore it at anytime. HTH Charles.

I don't think it is useful. Read Tihiy here:
