  1. Thanks for this clear explanation.
  2. My 2 cents (but no guaranty): you could try a clean reinstall of WMP9 from Microsoft: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#WMP9 then WMP9 Update Rollup Packs of erpdude8: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#URP or 98MP10 of MDGx: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#98MP10, to get the last files released and then Unofficial WMP10 XP MP3 Codec, that is providing the 'L3CODECP.ACM' file: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#L3C at last, replace with the 2 new files @Arminius: I have just checked in my 'SYSTEM.INI' section [drivers32] and found: ... msacm.L3acm=L3CODECP.ACM msacm.L3codec=L3CODECP.ACM ... Is it useful to add a line: msacm.l3acm=l3codeca.acm, or not necessary?
  3. And now, Opera 10.53 Final released! Opera 10.53 for Windows changelog: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/1053/ Opera 10.53 has been released today to address a security issue that has been reported 3 days ago. Severity: Extremely Severe Download Opera 10.53 No visual change AFAIK (same skin "Windows Native").
  4. They are supposed to already exist in your %WINDIR%\SYSTEM directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). If so, you only have to replace them by the new version (no reboot or registration required) .
  5. You're right for XP, the look is really better than in Win 98 with the new skin "Windows Native", but still buggy because doesn't display correctly text of the buttons: Skin "Windows Native" from Opera 10.51 in XP: Skin "Windows Native" from Opera 10.52 in XP: BTW, didn't noticed wrong display when moving the tab bar to the left. With skin from Opera 10.51: With skin from Opera 10.52:
  6. Yes (with the help of KernelEx).
  7. Read here: Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-026 The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting the way that the Microsoft MPEG Layer-3 audio codecs decode the MPEG Layer-3 audio stream in specially crafted AVI files. ... Vulnerability Information: MPEG Layer-3 Audio Decoder Stack Overflow Vulnerability - CVE-2010-0480 l3codeca.acm & L3CODECX.AX are MP3 decoders L3CODECP.ACM is the encoder.
  8. Very nice, indeed .. but the seach button is not working here So, I can't use it
  9. In opera:plugins , check that you have the line: Shockwave Flash application/futuresplash spl application/x-shockwave-flash swf C:\PROGRAM FILES\OPERA\program\plugins\NPSWF32.dll (or equivalent path). If not, Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Downloads -> find the File Extensions spl and swf -> Edit, and last line : Use plug-in: select Shockwave Flash. HTH
  10. No Failed 1 tests... Test 46 failed: expected 'none' but got 'uppercase' - case u failed (index 17) I will.
  11. Why, don't you, guys have a try to Xeno86's KernelEx and install the last Flash Player 10.0.45.2 in Windows 98?
  12. You must have something blocked or you haven't waited enough time. I get 100/100 in Opera and 12/100 in IE6sp1 (after long wait no 5/100). I have tried again, waiting 5 minutes(!) and got the same 99/100 with 10.51 & 10.52. (With OperaUSB 10.10 I am at 100/100). I don't know what can be blocked. Could come from the OS (Win 98SE), because with XP I have also 100/100. For IE6 SP1, you are right, waiting longer I got 12/100. It is not my case. How did you install Opera 10.52? I downloaded full version and installed over 10.51. From inside Opera: Help -> Check for Updates "Windows Native" skin seems to be designed for XP and newer UI themes, so it is not supposed to work OK with any classic UI theme, I'm afraid. The 'Windows Native Skin' included in version 10.51 doesn't makes problem for me, that is why I took it back instead of the new one. BTW, the 10.51's is 40 KB, but the new 10.52's is only 5 KB!!
  13. Opera 10.52 final for Windows (build 3370) is released today, April 27, 2010! Opera 10.52 is a recommended stability upgrade. Opera highly recommends all users to upgrade to this version to take advantage of these improvements. Changelog here: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/1052/ Peacekeeper not faster for me On the Acid3 Test, I get 99/100 (IE 6 SP1 has 5/100 ). Careful: * The option for "Automatic upgrade" become selected when you upgrade through the browser. * Unite is re-enabled in Opera:Config * The skin "Windows Native" has been modified and is buggy. So I replaced it by the 10.51 version.
  14. Have a look here: DirectX 9.0c User Runtime June 2008 Update, starting in post #26
  15. Same thing here. Running well. I had l3codecx.ax version 1,5,0,50 timestamped 12-Dec-2002 and l3codeca.acm version 1,9,0,0305 from 3-Oct-2008 (!?) I have also the l3codecp.acm version 3,3,2,44 timestamped 28-Jan-2005, from Unofficial WMP10 XP MP3 Codec L3CODECP.ACM 3.3.2.44 for WMP 7/8/9 which is not present in the MS patch.
  16. With Opera (last version) everything is running like a charm It has his own java system, all add-ons are included, and it is one of the faster browser You only have to install the Flash plugin (with KernelEx, if you want the last version) or to use the 2 files as you said.
  17. Woow, it's terrific! I assume that a so small fixed swap file cannot be used for all applications, specially if you open several at the same time. What would be the good compromise for my Pentium III 500Mhz with 384 MB of RAM running Windows 98SE?
  18. My Windows 98SE computer is running with Pentium III 500 MHz and 384 MB of RAM too. You're welcome. Charles.
  19. Hi JorgeA, Last Spybot is running fine here on Windows 98 SE (but takes more than 1h30 to achieve a complete scan). You could try a complete uninstall and then a clean new install. Here are instructions: How to uninstall and I have uploaded you a reg file to sweep the registry. HTH Remove_Spybot S&D-settings.zip
  20. My 2 cents: 1°) Have you got installed 'Microsoft Layer for Unicode on Windows 95, 98, and Me Systems' ? You have to drop the 2 files in your Windows\System directory. Last version is 1.1.3790.0. 2°) I had your problem with last version of VLC media player (= 1.0.5). Have a look in the 'KernelEx 4.5 Beta 2' thread for the workarounds I had tried: http://www.msfn.org/board/kernelex-beta-t130936-page-480.html -> Post 482 & 486-488, 491 http://www.msfn.org/board/kernelex-beta-t130936-page-520.html -> Post 531, 532 HTH
  21. Thanks for sharing WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.
  22. Just tried it in Win 98 SE, with either IE6 SP1 fully patched including MS10-018, Maxthon and last Opera. Ctrl+Enter is working like a charm with the 3 browsers.
  23. More details on their blog: Today we released MS10-018 out-of-band due to increases in attacks against Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7 using the vulnerability discussed in Security Advisory 981374. ...was originally going to be released during the normal update cycle on the 13th of April. The Internet Explorer team accelerated testing of this update due to the growing attacks against the publicly disclosed vulnerability (CVE-2010-0806) ...and provides users of all versions of Internet Explorer protection against nine other vulnerabilities.
  24. You can install Flash Player 10 with KernelEx, using some registry trick you will find in the thread. Your link display the player, but is telling me 'Sorry, the video cannot be found'. When I click on next tab 'Health', I get the message: 'Sorry, the video is only available to be viewed within the UK...' Same thing with the others pages I have tried
  25. There were a new update yesterday MS10-018: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB980182) that can be downloaded from here: Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 17 new files (the 16 usual ones and 'tdc.ocx'). Everything running perfect here
