Funny! I haven't talked about this in a long time but it is still a problem. Yes, I checked the BIOS to make sure it was not going into standby and everything. It's not. Very strange...but if it were mine, this prob. would be fixed because Gateway would have shipped me another computer to shut me up! LOL I have asked her to go ahead and upgrade her computer to WinXP but she is waiting for me to come up there and do it. I think that will solve her prob. We shall see. Rick:cool:

Okay...you've got me curious here....Are you talking about you can't CHMOD when your webspace is set up on a Windows based server or you can't chmod from windows to any server? I do this through FlashFXP and it seems to work unless it is lying to me. But I think I know what you mean. Rick:cool:

That bot is not the same as the Maurice's server.met autoupdater is it? I have used this for ages...but then again, I think you must be talking about something different. Rick:cool:

I have always had AMD and will stick by it! Because of the price and because it is just as fast, if not faster than the equivalent Intel chip. Mine is just a 1.4gHz and I can promise you that I have one of the fastest computers on my block! This fall, I will make my yearly upgrade to the fastest AMD chip. Rick

Yeah....we all hate XP too! I don't even know why we have a forum for it! LOL JK XP can be a pain as far as getting other people's software to work but it is much better than the other OS's that they have put out there as far as having a mix of the Win2000 engine and game compatibility. Good luck man! Rick:cool:

I put Norton on there when I was there. I am thinking power supply but I can't imagine telling Gateway to put one of those PS's in there. It is under warranty and I doubt that she will want to void the warranty by spending money on a PS. Gateway should have fixed this. I still believe it has to do with wake on lan but I will never be able to prove it! Darn! I am going to ask her to unplug her modem and see what happens. Rick:eek:

ZA has never worked on XP for me and I think it just totally sux all around! I will get it when people tell me that they are no longer having probs with it. Rick:cool:

Is there a way that I can download SR-1 and SR-2 of office 2000 so that I can send it to another person who is having trouble d/lin'g it on their own computer? Rick:cool:

I was thinking about the wake on modem and wake on PCI in her BIOS. I didn't even know these things existed until I discovered them last night. I disabled them, I disabled everything that has to do with power on in the BIOS. I have not checked on the M$ scheduler but the computer just comes on, it doesn't run any tests. She sent her computer off to Gateway not too long ago and they put a new power supply in there and could not replicate the problem of it turning on automatically. The only difference being that it was not connected to a cable modem @ gateway. These are the progs that are running when her computer comes on...sound familiar? Monwow, Csinsm32, and Csinject. I think it is wake on lan but I just don't see another place in BIOS to turn this off so I assumed that the wake on PCI must have been it. Rick:rolleyes:

I am working on a computer and I am stumped. The lady claims that the computer just turns on automatically at all hours of the day and night. I was concerned that somebody may have have hacked her computer and put some type of prog on their with a timer for the computer to come on but I can't find any trojans or virii. Does anybody have suggestions that may help me out here? BTW--She's running WinME and also is on AOL cable modem. Rick

Thanks man! That's helps out a whole lot. Just as long as I keep her favorites and desktop stuff....I can put her wallpaper back up and set her .net up again. Thanks dude! Rick:cool:

I was messing around the other day and installed bootvis and startup_cpl and when I booted back up...my wife's user name had been totally cleaned out. Now when you click on her name, it takes like 3 minutes for it to boot and when it does, it is like she has never used that name. Anybody have this happen to them? Any solutions? Rick:rolleyes:

I'm gonna miss my good buddy! If you ever have to drive down to the Charleston port to pick up something, you had better drop by my house. Just knowing what I know about you...I'm not afraid of you being reckless on accident....don't get road rage in one of those things!!! Rick:D
