    Fat32 - Ntfs

I have read that you lose some of the functionality of NTFS if you convert rather than clean installing with this file system. Does anybody know proof of this being true and what you lose? Rick:rolleyes:
  2. You will have to put in a VLK (Volume License Key) which should have been given to you by your university. You will not have to deal with WPA though. BTW--have you completely installed this version on your computer? Rick:cool:
  3. Micro...I hope you know I'm playing...The mods like to mess around back and forth so whatever you do don't take me seriously! Just stay away from Chris, he's just a jealous jerk! He wants to rule the boards and hopes that XPER will make him an admin soon! LOL:D Oh! And bye-bye Edonkey..you were good while you were here! Rick:cool:

    Boot error?

I am getting this error every once in a while when I try to boot up: It tried to boot up using all drives then goes to to a screen with this on it: Novell Netware Ready Firmware...then ver. # and stuff RPL-ROM-ADR: 00D0 09E3 D4A6 RPL-ROM-IRQ: 11 RPL-ROM-PIO: D400 RPL-ROM-FFC: Here is counts from one to five Then it tries to boot from cdrom, floppy, and scsi and after that I get a boot failure message. After I reboot the computer, it loads up just like nothing ever happened. The only info I know on this is that yes, it has happened on a previous install of XP I am not able to run Win2K because there seems to be an error with my NIC card and video..which both share IRQ 11. Any ideas here? Rick:eek:
  5. No Micro...I didn't know where to put it...too many darn choices on the main board...if you want, move it to where it goes. Rick:cool:
  6. Anybody been able to get on edonkey lately? I have tried for days (since last week) and I can never get a connection. Rick:grump
  7. Yeah! Dirt Cheap! Just paid $180 USD for mine! LOL It is a 60 Gig 7200 RPM Western Digital though. I wouldn't be surprised if the HD I have in my system would have taken a dirt nap but I don't think that is the root of the prob in this case...I think it's an XP bug of some sort but what sets it off? I don't know. Rick
  8. I was having this prob big time after installing a copy of XP that I got off of an irc. I changed HD's because I thought that was the problem and also I have loaded XP Pro retail version. No problems since then but it is good to know that it is likely not a bad hard drive that I have. Interesting...if you guys find the solution, please post back here. Rick
  9. Why don't we just DDOS them with twisted humor of our own? Truth is, they could care less and the ISP will get no more than a slap on the wrist at best. Rick:mad:
  10. Haha! Just giving you a hard time because you actually work for M$. In the eyes of Bill, you are all peons! LOL Hey, only reason anybody else complains is because they wish they could work for the Bill empire! Rick:D
  11. Fangzster...you're on the inside...keep us updated on a release time...interesting because I expected there to be an SP1 soon and thought it would actually come when retail was released but I guess that would be really bad press. Rick
  12. I am using Win98se for a few days while waiting on XP to come in to my mail box. While using XP, it blows away load up and shutdown times compared to XP. Of course, there is much more to load on XP but the best that can be done right now is to apply the patches that are offered and the tweaks that will allow for a faster shutdown. I got real frustrated with it in XP because all I wanted to do was a simple reboot and it would take like 4 minutes total. As for the Bootvis...you need to talk to AaronXP about your prob because he has ran this prog successfully and originally posted how to use it. Rick:cool:
  13. Great deep thinking FthrJack! Yep..they will have to put something back in there because the WTC will be rebuilt to some capacity one day. I have a beta copy of FS2002 and the WTC is still in there. It was real spooky when I flew through NYC and saw those towers. (Uhummmm...I should say, I had FS2002 beta...all gone noe! Rick:cool:
  14. Embarrasing? Yes Do they still make billions of dollars? Yes Therfore, do they care either way? Nope. Sad but true (isn't that a Metallica song?) Rick:D
  15. Did you guys see the date on the post of this? I would hope the guy has figured out what to do by now or uninstalled it one! haha:D Rick:cool:
  16. I will put what to do on here for you this time but please make sure that you search through the appropriate sections before asking a question. This was found under Tweaking XP written by AaronXP: To drastically reduce your boot time, use the BootVis app from Microsoft. and run these instructions in this order: Run bootvis, trace menu, next boot+ driver delays, 2 repetitions. let it reboot twice, start bootvis again and load newest .bin file it created, select optimize system and let it do it's thing. after it's finished optimizing run boot+driver delays again and see how much shorter it is. Get BootVis from here: http://www.microsoft.com/HWDEV/fastboot/default.htm It cut my boot time by 15-20 secs which is pretty good! Also - To speed it up even more, assign an IP to your network card if you have one, and disable the Welcome screen (configured in Control Panel > Users) Enjoy...take a look at forum rulez and welcome! Rick:cool:
  17. Lou, same problem...my Nic card and ATI Radeon are sharing IRQ 11. Problem is that I don't have any cards in my pci slots. I have on board nic and sound, and then my card is in the AGP slot. I am not sure what to do from this point. I am running Win98 without a hitch right now....getting pro retail in a couple of days! Any other suggestions? Rick
  18. Hi all and Lou, My computer has gone nuts on me! I tried to reformat my drive after PM7 made a disaster out of my drives and I am currently d/ling another copy of XP. Win2K is crashing every 20 minutes!!! I get these two messages and this is what generally happens. I get a lockup with no blue screen at all. I get a blurred screen or "out of range" message. I get a BSOD with KMODE_NOT_blah, blah blah..in win32.sys I get a BSOD with IRQL_Not less or equal with sisnic.sys...That's my onboard sis9000 nic card. Seems to be a irq conflict with nic card and video (ATI AIW Radeon 32MB) but I read that you can't change irq's in XP or Win2K and devices share more often without probs in these OS's...So what do I do to get this resolved? Yes, I have tried lowering refresh rate, card performance, loading latest drivers, etc...nothing! Rick:grump :grump :grump
  19. Very cool...as soon as I get XP back up on my computer...I'm going to personalize my logon screen. Rick:D
  20. You may be able to but I know that the servers that you d/l from limit the amount of d/l's from the same IP. If you find the tweak...let me know. Rick
  21. Yes, Chris is right...it was when I was downloading from the same site that I could only d/l two at a time...which is probably what you were doing. Rick:cool:

    Which MOBO?

AMB that is one awesome setup you did there! Whew...he should be set for awhile! I just upgraded but didn't quite have the money or patience to wait for anybody to make a board with KT266A Chipset. I feel cheated...then again I always do because my computers are always outdated about two months after I buy them!:cry Rick:cool:
  23. Don't let supermod make you nervous! He just has a lot of time working on the night shift so he's gotta show out! Somebody needs to belt his rear end!!! He's probably right about the PM7 thing... I crashed my whole system using that thing and lost a years worth of stuff. I never had probs before using it but it has gotten very wicked in XP...not to mention that XP is very funny when you try to modify it. You can't move a partiton with XP on it (to my knowledge) without losing the OS. There's lots of other stuff Rick:cry

    Which MOBO?

Make sure you get the new KT266 board. Don't get confused with the one that came out in April...the new one was released in September and is night and day compared to the old. From what I have read, that chipset is the fastest out there. Look at ht*p://www.tomshardware.com Rick:cool: Read the dam rules you mod....No active links....edited by mod.....posted by a mod....ok Im confused now....gezzzz[/color:0990ca81bb]
  25. I think I got probs that go beyond the crc thing. I'm gonna try to get a better copy of XP and do a format C: !!! I am going to start clean and go from there. Rick:mad:
