  1. Thats pretty darn cool! And no porn sites for me. Rick
  2. MS has definitely pushed the limit on privacy and all of the traditional business practices but they have control of the market and they have introduced one restriction after another. I guess hoping to desensitize us to the subtle changes. For most computer users, they could care less about this stuff. They just want to turn on the computer and they want it to work. I would not want to be forced to sign up for .net. I have not seen anything cool in it as of yet but I'm sure M$ has some plans coming down the pipe. I'm not a big brother's out to get you type but the truth speaks for itself. M$ doesn't want to control the world but they do want to get all the money. After all, isn't that what enterprise is all about? Rick
  3. I suspect you are viewing things that you don't want other family members to view so you probably want to get a prog that cleans out everything. I have used Window Washer for a long time now and it does a good fast job of getting rid of all the evidence! Go HERE to d/l a month trial. Rick
  4. Hehe...I just like the little feature where you can remotely shut down computers on your network. When I am having a bad day...everybody in my office will be in a for a big surprise! Rick
  5. Hey...that's a pretty neat idea...when you find the icons...post the link here! Rick
  6. My wife hates it when she catches me in bed with another woman! LOL Rick
  7. Hey! Xperties is a darn old man! Give the old fool some appreciation MSFN crew! Rick
  8. Very cool! Thanks a bunch dude! Rick

    Which HD to buy

Not sure where you live...go add your country flag! :-) If you are in the US...go to www.xpbargains.com when you look for your HDD. There are some pretty good coupons on there. They find mistakes too! I found a 120GB HDD on there for $19! No kidding...of course, that deal only stayed up for a few hours before Office Depot realized that people were robbing them blind! LOL Rick
  10. Satellite connection? Stick the dish out his dorm room window??? You are kidding me right? I don't think unis will go for that one. He is pretty much stuck...but Tris has the ticket...my uni here in America installs wireless broadband for all students on campus (ppl are in class IM'ing and crap while they type their class notes on their laptop)...I live off campus but that's the way a college should do! rick
  11. Thanks for the links Boogs...that link is cool...when you type in what it says...a password box pops up...I have no idea what to put there because I have never set a password for any of my accounts. But I think your idea of just sharing the folders individually will work fine...there are just a few progs that I want to be able to get into. Rick
  12. I have set up my laptop and desktop under simple file sharing and I noticed one very nagging thing when I tried to access my program files. I got a message telling me "All the options on this tab are disabled because this folder is used by the operating system" after trying to share it. I know what this means but does anybody know how to tell it to let me in anyway? Rick
  13. Green Stuff? Haha! You mean Anti-Freeze. Good idea...I'm sure that Hitachi would use some solution besides just plain water. I tell you, my new laptop generates so much heat it makes me sweat! I have to set it on a pillow or something so it doesn't burn my darn legs off! I have looked up laptop pads but they are more for cooling (additional fans) rather than keeping the laptop from burning your legs off! Somebody needs to design a pad that will go on the laptop to act as a heat sink that dissapates out the side instead of the bottom! Rick
  14. C'mon Geforce! All WinXP is an NT (Win2000) platform with Win98 features. Sure it runs faster because it is not as feature rich...but I have to tell you, it can't be much faster because my copy of XP on my machine is faster than any other computer that I have been on including ones with faster clock speeds than mine (And Win2K). The only think I hate about XP is that there are still some peripherals that I have that are not supported. I have a voice recorder and that transfers all my voice files to PC for easier listening and filing of my class lectures. I have to keep a copy of Win98 (Can use Win2K) in order to be able to use this. :-( Rick
  15. Take a look at this: It is a theory very similar to yours that has been discussed extensively. http://www.msfn.org/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t...e6065bf643fde1b Rick
  16. Yeah...I'm not trying to run you off Rich..just messing with ya...enjoy the board! Tris..I meant crude...it's a word...look it up in the most proper Oxford Dictionary! LOL Rick
  17. C'mon Aaron...don't be so crude! Rich if you go to www.putyourguesshere.com, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for. Rick
  18. Yeah...I checked that..no bios lock or the job would have been done. Rick
  19. Okay, my secretary at work is running (taking a deep breath) WinMe with all of our sensitive info on it. (My bosses decision...not my choice). I was asked to find an app that can password lock WinMe so that the computer cannot be restarted or anything to get on windows. There may be a way to do this without software...I just don't know how on WinMe...Can somebody help me out? Rick
  20. I don't get anything strange but what I am getting is long delays or no page loading at all when I type in the google address. It has been happening on and off for days...I have had to go to altavista and other search engines. :-( Rick
  21. Looks like I need to drop my ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder because it has been causing stop errors for over a year now...I hated it so bad that I decided to buy a laptop and lazy around the house with wireless networking...screw the desktop!!! Rick
  22. Or go to Start-Control Panel-System and it's right before your eyes. Rick

    Access Denied

MSN...I'm not so sure that would work...just bought the laptop a week ago! Hehe. Well, I do not have passwords set on either machine and I can try that...I have heard somebody else say something about this guest account thing...do you put all that you want shared on the guest account or do you have to log in to the guest account to be able to get all shared files? Please explain the concept for the slow learner here! Rick

    Access Denied

Thanks for a good firewall man! But I don't have any firewall installed right now...that is why I am so baffled by all this. It should be working. But I'm going to give kerio a try though. What I'm trying to say from above is that one part of my networked drive will not share altough all is being shared. Rick

    Access Denied

Hahahaha!!! That's great MSN! Hehe...yeah...you understand what I mean then! LOL I can access everything except my wife's files from the desktop...firewall is off. I am using a gateway (I have to for wireless networking to work. Another thing that I have noticed is that every time I try to send out an email, I get a relaying denied message also. Rick
