  1. so are you taking back what you said earlier? i dont need a hardcore water cooling system, just something average. if i got the case i would get a GFX card block and a block for my HDDs, and probably one for the RAM also. i was just thinking about this, do they have blocks available for the southbridge? i imagine they do , i might as well get one of those too and then ill be set as soon as i saw the kandalf i was like "wow this thing is awesome!" and i noticed that w/o the water cooling system it was only $50 less so i was thinking why would i not get the water cooling setup?? it would kind of be dumb not to, now all i need is the money edit: another thing i just thought of, are the pumps loud? i dont even know anyone that has a water cooling system
  2. i was looking at the Kandalf LCS or the armor LCS its the 7600gs the matxor 60y080mo (diamond max +9 SATA) has always been high, ive had various programs scream at me cuz the temp was too high, the other HDD is a WD 800JB and that is a reasonable temp thats even worse! these are the temp results after running prime 95 for 6+ hours (it only took up half the cpu load) with the house fan on full blast: Temperatures: Motherboard 43 °C (109 °F) CPU 38 °C (100 °F) CPU #1 / Core #1 37 °C (99 °F) CPU #1 / Core #2 46 °C (115 °F) North Bridge 39 °C (102 °F) GPU 53 °C (127 °F) Maxtor 6Y080M0 35 °C (95 °F) the highest CPU temp i saw was 106F and that was running Super Pi at 32m and prime95 at the same time (100% cpu load)
  3. yea those are idle temps (all i was doing was watching a video). what about the motherboard and gpu temps, do they seem in range? the gpu temp seems extremely high to me... any recommendations? yea i just ordered one last night, the case only has space for 2 though it looked like a good case, i always though thermaltake made quality stuff?? the thing is im afraid that if i did the watercooling myself i would screw something up and end up frying something (edit) wow i just looked at the price for that, thats $30 over the price for the entire thermaltake case i was gonna get! thats they way i kind of feel too, but it seems like not very many people have problems with them. plus its a lot quiter and more efficient then fans.
  4. I'm fairly new to overclocking, ive done it before occasionally on my other boards/processors but never really realized how complex and intricate it was until I read "The" Guide to AMD64 overclocking on DIY street lastnight. I downloaded all the tools he listed in that thread and currently have everest ultimate running to monitor my temps. I noticed last night that when I had the "optimized settings" loaded on my DFI LanParty (NF4) Ultra-D, that my cpu (amd 62 x2 4200) was running around 126-130 degrees F under barely any load, so I went in to the bios and lowered the vcore from 1.35v down to 1.25v and now its running around 90 degrees, which is was I was used to when I was using my Asus A8N-SLI. I dont really know the "bad" temp ranges to look out for, only that my cpu temp was really high since I had only seen it that high before when I was playing Doom3 or UT2004 for hours on end when I had my asus board. I do remember seeing on the amd website about the temp range for my processor being 140-160 degrees, but im not really sure what that means. I was just wondering about what temps i should be looking out for, currently my motherboard is at 115 degrees, my cpu is 93 degrees and my GPU is at 140 degrees (all Im doing is watching videos on my computer). I dont really have any special cooling except for my homemade A/C ducting rig (which doesnt seem to be that effective according to everest ) and my thermaltake polo 3 in 1 heatsink. my case is also pretty old, it only has one fan which is set up as an exhaust fan in the front of the case (the cool air from the AC comes in the back). I'm in the process of ordering another fan, and once I get enough money I should be ordering one of thermaltakes cases that has watercooling built in. I attached a sensor report from everest for even more detail for those who care to look at it Thanks everest_sensor_report.txt
  5. doesnt seem to be a problem yet, and if there is any it will most likely get caught in the bottle then in the (~6 ft long) tube, plus i just noticed theres a sag in the middle of the tube so that would definately stop condensation, if there is any. i did notice a little in the bottle, thats about it. i was gonna put it down low, but the fan grill seemed like the only suitable place w/o destroying the case (which i intend to sell when i get my new one), as for the hot glue i wanted to use silicon but i went to go use the tube i had and half was dried up and the bottom half was still wet so i cracked it open and used it to fix my computer chair the hot glue didnt work at first so my dad put a coat of it on the inside of the plate and one on the outside, and it seems to hold quite well yea even on "hi cool" the force of the air is about equivalent a strong exhale (if that) all in all i'd say it worked out pretty well, i made a decent cooling solution for about ~$10
  6. i thought this up awhile ago and discussed it with my dad and finally had the means to put my plan into action. this all stemmed out of realizing i only have one case fan and it was getting pretty hot in there, also i dont have any money for the case i want yet. (~$220, integrated water cooling) http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c51/bran...ng/100_0718.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c51/bran...ng/100_0720.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c51/bran...ng/100_0721.jpg the only change i made to the initial pic is there isnt a cardboard tube on the other end anymore, instead theres a aluminum plate (which was formely the case of an old floppy drive) that has a hole cut in it, and 4 screw holes which line up with the fan grate on the back. components: 64oz gatorade bottle ~6ft pool hose hot glue aluminum case of a former floppy drive havent tested out how efficient it is yet, i havent looked for any programs that will measure the temps of various things. my old asus board was bundled with this stuff but now i have a dfi board.
  7. how can i download (save) gadgets? i did it before but i cant rember how i did it....
  8. awesome, i just used the website a few days again to mess with my services but never noticed the regGen, awesome find! edit: i just finished it, it takes forever to go through all those services!
  9. Ive used the free version of tweakVI and it seems to work pretty well, I was wondering what your thoughts were on the pro and ultimate editions. has anyone used them? half of the stuff you "unlock" in those editions seem like they would be of little use to me. Are there any other vista tweakers that you prefer?
  10. thanks, but i just noticed (by looking at comp. management) that my c drive is the 2nd partition on that disk, so it would change the beginning offset i might reinstall vista when nuhi comes out with vlite 1.0 final because i definately dont need 36gb for my system partition, well ill see how much space it will take up once i have all my games installed
  11. maybe that was it, i also found out that partition magic isnt vista compatible, so i just downloaded paragon hard disk manager which i used to use back on XP and it says its vista compatible edit: just my luck it doesnt work under vista 64 i cant seem to find one that is. I'll just do it under XP Pro when i re-install it since my LG vx8300 wont work under vista and drivers wont be available until late june. so im just gonna make a stripped XP to save space since i'll barely ever use it
  12. whenever i tried to resize the system partition of anything it would always make it unbootable, idk ill try it
  13. is it possible to resize the system partition without destroying it/making it unbootable? i made mine way too big and im running out of room on the other partition.
  14. ehh, and i was gonna update my ram soon too :/ before i do anything i guess ill ask their customer support
  15. if you look at my edit you see everything is A-OK thanks to you I lied i do have that mini 5v lead i expected it to be on one of the 2 hardwired bundles of wires instead its on one of the modular plugs. thanks for the help buddy.
  16. Edit: It seems it was a ram problem, originally i had the ram sticks in the yellow slots, so i took one stick out and left the other in and it beeped infinitely again. So I moved it down one to the orange slot and powered it on, only a single "everything's ok" beep, I went into the CMOS waited about 15 seconds and moved the selector bar around, it didnt freeze. So I powered it off and added the other stick to the other orange slot, voila it worked! Thanks Ripkin! It still wouldnt hurt if you could direct me to one of those adapters though i tried searching for it on google but the only that kept coming up was either pinouts or actual (round) wall adapters for laptops Good thing you pointed that out, I just noticed that small 5v connector in the manual and tried using the small lead that I was talking about earlier from the PSU but it was a 3 pin connector and the 5v is a 4 pin. I just checked the box to see if there was an adapter for it, there wasnt. Now im in big trouble do you know of anywhere I can buy an adapter like that?? Also when I cleared the CMOS and then Enabled "Safe Boot" it went back to how it was before the infinite beeps and no video output. The last debug light I was talking about is the "Video Card Detected" LED and this is the one that stays on, for everything to be ok (System Booting) the manual says they should all be off. If that LED stays on does that mean the Video Card idnt detected? Thats odd since I do have video output on my monitor.
  17. the PSU is a 500watt Enermax Liberty, the 24 pin (+12 volt?) connector is connected and so is the 4 pin (+5 volt?) connector, theres a lead coming out of the PSU that looks like a fan connector, ive always wondered what it was im guessing its to monitor the fan speed of the PSU, correct? i've read the manual and it isnt very helpful for troubleshooting. Also would anyone be able to recommend a good POST read (port 80h) card that is reasonably priced ($5-$50)ive found a few but have no idea on how good they work, im sick and tired of trying to decipher these stupid beeps
  18. Hey guys I finally got my DFI board off of ebay brand new (everything was still sealed) and now its giving me problems. when I first installed it (I made sure to ground myself after what happened last time) and booted it up it gave me the normal "CMOS Checksum bad- defaults loaded press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup) so I hit f2 and went into setup, the wierd thing is that when I press any key (such as the down arrow) it works but then immediately freezes (the keyboard is a USB logitech elite). I've had this happen before under linux where it wouldnt support the keyboard when it was connected to USB but if I connected it to the PS/2 port it would work fine and I also had the same problem (the machine freezing) when I would go to the boot drive selection (not in the BIOS but when I would press f12 during POST) on my asus board that just died (it would happen randomly). I think I remember seeing someone say that the DFI boards are really picky about which memory you use, the current memory I have in there is 2 sticks of Kingston HyperX DDR400. I figured this time instead of going into setup I would just hit f1 and see if it would boot to the vista dvd but it tried to boot to the HDD instead. It also was saving the initial configuration (I guess). It said "verifying DMI Pool....... Done" then I think it said something about saving the setup. Then it would reboot and now it just beeps at me (gives me about a second long beep then waits about 2 or 3 seconds and gives the same second long beep, ad infinitum) Also can someone help me understand the "debug lights" on the board, theres only like a sentence about it in the manual. When I first power on the computer all lights are on, then it goes down one by one and now the one all the way to the left stays on. I think I remember seeing that was the CPU light, I really hope that the CPU isnt fried along with the motherboard, if it is I'm going to be extremely mad and say F this and buy a socket AM2 board along with a AMD 64 x2 6000.
  19. ive had problems with asus's motherboards randomly dying but i always brushed it off as something that was my fault, my last asus board (a a8n-sli) just died randomly when i took out my dvd drive. ive always been loyal to asus (except for the one time my dad bought me an MSI board off of ebay that was a POS) but i just got a brand new dfi lan party ultra-d (at the recommendation of several members here) and im having problems with it too now, i think it maybe be the memory isnt compatible
  20. Hi, vista says the drivers are integrated and it installs them fine (the LGE Mobile Composite USB Device, LGE Mobile USB Modem, and LGE Mobile USB Serial Port (COM4) but when i try to sync the phone with my computer it finds the device (VCAST Mobile Phone), then i just noticed that it flashed up a screen that said "please insert the disk for the component" or something like that (it was there for maybe half a second) but then disconnects the sync gives me the error message that the driver wasnt installed successfully and it says "device unplugged". if i could resolve this then i would be able to remove XP MCE completely since this is the only thing that is current holding me back.
  21. wow thats a pretty nice score. This is the score for my dads XPS Gen 4 that he bought about a year and a half ago Processor: 4.3 Intel Pentium 4 3.8 Ghz RAM: 4.5 1GB DDR2 Graphics: 5.9 ATI Radeon X850 Platinum Gaming Graphics: 4.9 ATI Radeon X850 Platinum Primary HDD: 5.6 WD 74GB Raptor why is the difference between the graphics and gaming graphics a full point? Its a $600 video card and it plays games flawlessly! My Score (about 4 posts up, just for comparison) CPU: 4.9 AMD 64 x2 4200 RAM: 4.5 1GB DDR 400 (2x512mb) Graphics: 5.9 Nvida GeForce 7600GT Gaming Graphics: 5.3 HDD: 5.2 WD 80GB (ATA) (note both of these scores were under vista 32, i'll post up my new score when my DFI lanparty arrives in the mail and i have vista 64 installed) I also thought that it was pretty funny that I have a higher score then he does and I payed about 6 times less then what he did (i built mine myself). Also how is it that my $60 video card beat out his $600 video card?!
  22. im with you, ive always used diskeeper ever since i found out about it back in 03 or 04. i tried raxco's perfect disk but i still like diskeeper better. the only thing i dont like about the new version (2007) is how the analyze/defrag screen isnt integrated into the program (it makes a pop-up, which annoys me, if i want to analyze and defragment i dont want to switch between windows). as for the windows defrag tool ive barely ever used it, it seems like it does an inferior job compared to diskeeper.
  23. i hate to dig up an old thread but i love this program and it seems that SOF doesnt work with Firefox 2.0.0.4 and Thunderbird 2. For firefox all i had to do was change the profile path in profiles.dat (also i just noticed none of my extensions were installed even though i placed the XPIs in the extensions folder), but in thunderbird i had to create a new profile (essentially i created a blank folder in %appdata%\thunderbird called new.default and changed the location in profiles.dat and copied my stuff from the old profile to the new one) and then re-install thunderbird from the basic install because the silent one i created wouldnt display anything (ive had this happen before) but it also screwed up the format for the whole program. LaptoniC, if you're still around could you please fix this??
  24. how do you integrate this into your UA? is it possible via Vlite or do you have to do it manually? sorry im a n00b a vista UAs right now im still used to the way it was pre-vista
  25. Vista is very annoying with the way it sets it's permissions. I was messing around with the program files folder and was trying to delete the window media player folder (before i knew it was integrated into vista, d'oh! ) and i couldnt delete it no matter what i tried! the user creator owner (well not really a user but its on the ACL) didnt have any permissions set but administrator had full control, so i deleted creator owner thinking that would fix the problem. it still said i needed permission, i changed the ownership of the folder from trusted install to administrator, still said i needed permission, tried it on the individual files, still said i needed permission. Vista is too secure for my liking at this point i have to re-install anyway since i deleted 90% of WMP
