  1. I must be blind because i cant seem to find the section where you enter the admin password in 1.4 beta, i assumed it would be in the unattended section but it isnt. ive have to enter it manually into winnt.sif each time
  2. looks like vlite is coming along well, i may mess around with this when i get my new 500gb HDD tomorrow since i use xp as my main os. the next thing i would like to see is tweaks and component removal keep up the good work buddy
  3. i completely forgot i made this thread, it never emailed me about it until this morning i didnt know there was a thread in the nlite section. i post my stuff there when i get a chance.
  4. i tried it with a clean source and the box was available, after i integrated the updates/packs it was unavailable. i believe in this one i did disable SFC when i made the clean source unattended. I just figured that it wasnt that big of a deal and that it is disabled. how can i check to see if it really is disabled? i have it installed in a VM already.
  5. hmm, the only add-ons i used were RyanVMs and the microsoft upates that werent in ryans update pack(s)
  6. can someone please help me with this? i would really like to fix it
  7. im using a slightly nlited source that i am going to nlite further and ive noticed that the drop down box for SFC is greyed out. can anyone explain this because i would like to disable SFC. ive attached what im assuming is the main last settings file (theres about 6 of them ranging from <1kb to about 3kb, while this one is 11kb) LAST_SESSION__205307.16_19.03.52_.INI
  8. i tried to integrate WMP11 into a barely nlited XP sp2 and this is the error i got: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The system cannot find the file specified at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() at WMP11Slipstreamer.Backend.extractHotfix(String hotfixInstaller, String destinationPath) at WMP11Slipstreamer.Backend.ExtractWMP11Installer() at WMP11Slipstreamer.MainGUI.workerMethod(Object addonSettings) Deleting "G:\Unattended\Operating Systems\xp\nlited\i386\wmp11temp"... Done! The source being modified has not been damaged. All changes have been successfully reverted.
  9. i was also wondering if there was a program like that, i went back to xp because vista royally screwed up my hard drives after a few months.
  10. afaik its impossible to login as "system" unless they changed that in vista. all you have to do is login to an account that has administrative acess and then change the permissions. thats one thing that really bugged me about vista, so i changed the all to either be owned by "administrators" or owned by me depending on how i wanted to restrict access to certain users.

    BCOD

i see they updated the BSOD to "the nice white screen of death" lol, one of the features i do like in vista is how helpful (well compared to the other versions) it is when it comes to problems and errors.
  12. ill just wait until r2 is released and people have found a lot of tweaks for it.
  13. cool thanks. i figured thats what i could do but wasnt sure.
  14. is there a way i could set a shortcut to always open up in IE even though i use firefox as my defualt browser? the sirius internet radio player uses activeX controls and wont display correctly in firefox.
  15. this is the only error im getting: printer error printing failed when starting the document it doesnt give me this problem when i go to \\ra and then login. i gave the group "everyone" full access to the printer. should i add the individual users instead?
  16. i have my printer shared since my dads printer doesnt work and everytime someone goes to print to it they get an error, it seems i have to log in first before they can print to it. how can i fix this?
  17. i found my problem, it was because "bran" on both computers didnt have a password. i tried to rd from my computer to my dads and it said the same thing, so i created a password on my computer and tried to rd into it from my dads and voila! it worked.
  18. no need for a domain when theres only 2 computers i did enable fast user switching but forgot to test and see if that made it better :-/
  19. im in the admin group on both PCs, i guess the way remote desktop is set up in vista is different then it is in xp? cuz in vista i could be logged onto my computer then go downstairs, and think "**** i forgot something" and RD in, and get the stuff that i needed without logging myself out on my computer. if i have to log myself out each time to take advantage of RD in XP, i think its not really worth it. there isnt any way i could be logged in on my computer then go downstairs and login to my pc remotely if i forgot something? would i have to create a separate user?
  20. i like it but even at 150-300kb/sec it takes forever to back stuff up. i have 39gb worth of stuff that i want to back up and its going to literally take weeks to upload it all. but i cant really complain its $5 per pc per month for unlimited storage. also i seem to have a problem with mozy eating up all of my LAN bandwith, i set up QoS on the router but that still didnt seem to help my dads computer, only mine (which is odd). summary: if you have a lot of time to back up all of your stuff and your the only computer on your home network, mozy is the way to go!
  21. whenever i try to login to my computer via remote desktop (when im still logged in there) it says "unable to log you in because of account restrictions". i havent placed any restrictions on myself that i know of and when i login as admin it says that it will login my user (bran) off if i continue. i have secondary login, terminal services and a few other services running that i believe i would need. what could be causing this???
  22. i have subscribed to mozy and the service works great but the only problem that i have its that it eats up all of the bandwith. i leave it running 24/7 since my initial backup is about 38gb but this seems to greatly slow down my fathers web browsing (oddly it only effects my computer when i have the slider for the upload speed set to the max). i messed around with QoS on my WRT54G and that seemed to fix everything but my father said its still really slow for him yet it seems really fast for me. i think vista might also be the reason why his connection is crappy. mozy uses SSL for connections so i cant really set it to low priority since my father uses alot of sites that use SSL. what i did was set the client side port range (49000-49999) to medium priority and everything else to either highest (HTTP and HTTPS) or high (Pop3 and SMTP). my question is that is there a way (in windows) for me to set priorities based on applications and not the ports they use?
  23. ill try those out, thanks. but after posting this i found out that thunderbird portable has a built in encryption system that will ask you for the password immediately as the application starts, w/o the password you cant do anything, even look at downloaded messages, which in the end is what i was looking for. also putty doesnt really save anything so theres no need to encrypt it and as for firefox the only thing i was really worried about is my passwords to everything, and i could set up a master password for that. as for the university passwords i downloaded keepass but havent really used it yet.
  24. whats the best portable (transparent) encryption software that i could use for a flash/thumb drive? i just bought a 2gb sandisk cruzer and would like to encrypt my thunderbird, firefox and putty programs along with a database of password for my new job as a lab consultant at my university (this is the most important as it will contain passwords for alot of stuff that would be very bad if it fell into the wrong hands)
  25. it is a u3 drive but i removed the interface and replaced it with portable apps menu since it looks a lot nicer, and most of u3's apps arent free :/ no heres my next problem, how can i have it so that it sets that variable up automatically when i connect the drive? i tried putting it in the autorun file but it doesnt seem to work. this is what it looks like currently: [Autorun] Open=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe Open="diskdetect.exe -removable" Action=Start PortableApps Icon=PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\PortableAppsMenu.exe Label=PortableApps
