  1. does nlite generate any error logs? it keeps crashing on me w/o saying anything. once it did give me c++ runtime errors. i attached my last session.ini hope it helps. Last_Session.ini
  2. i just bought a sandisk cruzer and added all of these portable apps to it and i was wondering if there was a variable i could use as a location for downloads (ex. how %systemroot% points to the windows folder on the drive it was installed to), this would be very useful in programs such as firefox and utorrent.
  3. its probably spyware, ive never seen it either. run cws shredder or some other anti-spyware program to see if it disappears
  4. I'm looking into this now to backup my essential files that I dont want to lose like i have in the past, i remember using xdrive in the past and saw now that they offer 5gb for free. are there any other free hosts that offer more? edit: after a little research i found that mozy is by far the best for my needs. they offer unlimited storage space for $5 a month and the upload speed is as fast as your connection supports. i'm signing up for this now.
  5. I think its thats time again, during the past few nights ive been getting alot of errors installing stuff and then i found out that both of my hard drives had bad sectors on them (1 on the maxtor and 2 on the wd) so i ran scandisk and that cleared up the errors i got in windows. now ive been trying to install 2003 server and getting rid of vista, but the few times ive actually tried installing it (all other times werevia vmware and they all worked fine) the installation went fine (text based and GUI) but when it would try and boot into windows (right before the loading screen) it gives me the BSOD with the error code 0x0000007A, i looked that up and a few people on a message board said that it could be related to the bios not being able to access the SATA drive, so i messed around with a few things and nothing seemed to work. I decided id try to install it on my IDE drive and see if that would fix it, it didnt This time i figured it might be a problem with the 2003 cd i was using (it was an nlite'd version) so i reflashed my bios to another compatible bios (i was going to do this anyway) and tried a retail version of xp 64 corporate. it went fine with the the text based portion of the xp install (i installed it on the ide drive) but when it rebooted to go into the GUI based portion it gave me a bsod again but this time the error code was 0x000000a (IRQ <= 0). The maxtor is a diamond max +9 SATA which i had to rma a year after i got it and the WD is an 800JB and its about 6 years old (never really had a problem with it up until now). later on im going to take one of my dads 74gb raptors and see if the HDDs really are the problem.
  6. atleast the samsung drives give you a warning theyre going to die, the maxtors just flat out die without any warning.
  7. edit: it is a problem with something i added in (idk what), because i just tried it with v1.3 and the same thing happened. can you tell me whats screwing it up? this is really annoying... edit 2: its one of the updates i have added in. these are the ones i use: Last_Session.ini
  8. ive tried multiple times to install nlited versions of windows 2003 server standard and enterprise and they all give me the same error after nliting them (even if i dont remove anything, the original ISOs work perfectly) setup was unable to initialize licensing components. the specific error code is 2 (from the setup error log) couldnt register the OLE control c:\windows\system32\netman.dll
  9. well what drives did it compair? was it seagate's 7200.9 or 7200.10? it was the maxtor maxline pro, Seagate Barracuda NL35.2, and the WD 5000YS link thats what the "other" option is for i knew i would forget atleast one
  10. i noticed that, that kinda fell in with my "not being upgradeable" statement, i should of stated that more clearly.
  11. wow i didnt expect this to get so many replies so quick i was reading a review (from 2006) between maxtor's, seagate's barracuda and western digital's WD5000YS (I dont remember what the maxtor was) 500gb drives and the WD came out on top followed by the seagate then the maxtor. i just looked up the price for the 5000YS and the cheapest i found it was for $100, im about to jump on that when i get the money. i just then realized how much 500gb actually was, i could make my c drive 50gb, have 15gb set aside for linux and still have 465gb left, thats alot of space!
  12. Which drive brand do you like the best? I'm a fan of Western Digital, I've had the same WD800JB in my computer since 2001 and its never given me problems (maybe until now), my dads has 2 74gb raptors and they run flawlessly too. I also have a Maxtor Diamond Max +9 SATA which IMO is pretty crappy. I had my first one for about a year and then it randomly died on me, so I RMA'd it and got a new one then almost exactly a year later it started acting up again (it would spin down randomly for 5-30 seconds then spin back up), it also runs extremely hot (47-48c avg and it just hit 55c while running scan disk) compared to my WD800JB. If I place my hand under where it is I can feel the heat pouring off of it (when I used to run a HDD monitor it would always tell me it was way to hot) and my friend just had one die on him randomly last month. Hopefully the quality of their drives will go up since theyre owned by Seagate now. I'm definitely in the market for a new HDD, I'm thinking about anywhere between a 350-500gb drive with a 16mb cache. I'll probably go with a WD again since they have never failed me (well compared to maxtor).
  13. thats a pretty cool idea, but i dont like the idea of it not being upgradeable. i would like to see a setting in the bios that would allow you to disable the onboard RAM and use the RAM slots and vice versa.
  14. in your opinion whats the Aero theme/shell replacement youve seen? This is the one thing (well theres a few other things, but i could live without them) thats keeping me from going back to xp, i love aero and the way explorer looks (the side panel). if i could emulate that (as close as possible) id switch back to XP in a heart beat. i saw this for this aston shell and thought it was pretty good, although theres no pictures of what the file manager looks like: Vista Extreme Edition
  15. thats pretty funny, this could also be an annoyance thing, have the file play infinitely at log on although all the user would have to do is turn off their speakers
  16. woot! of course you had to release this not even 24 hours after i decided to reinstall vista (i checked last night [around 2am] just to make sure you hadnt released it), ill still check it out though. good work buddy.
  17. never had a gigabyte board, id say go with the DFI board. i was always a big asus fan then alot of people here recommended the dfi nf4 ultra-d and i love it.
  18. thats how i have it now, and thats pretty much how ive always had it when i stress test i put the (house) fan i have pointed at the cpu/motherboard on high, works like a charm
  19. Is there a way to put individual programs at the end of the list and folders at the beginning like it was in previous versions? I'm using the vista start menu.
  20. In Windows XP I always used Hitman Pro to take care of my spyware problems but it seems most of the software that it runs doesnt seem to work in vista. I downloaded Ad Aware 2007 and it wont even run! it installs correctly but wont execute at all. I was wondering how does windows defender compare to software such as Ad-Aware and CWS Shredder?
  21. the condensation is inside the bottle, i think i might have to ditch this whole idea cuz i think its screwing up the temp sensing of my AC. Ive noticed that my room isnt nearly as cold as it used to get when i would have it on full blast. Usually if its on high cool and the temp setting is at the coldest within 30 mins my room would be a freakin ice box, earlier tonight i walked into my room and with those same settings it felt like it was only about 60F. I took the bottle off the AC for the night to see if it makes a difference. One thing i noticed (idk if it was coincidence or not) but as soon as i took the bottle off the compressor for the AC kicked on and was blowing out really cold air once again. @ripken: I thought you would enjoy this Kandalf LCS Review, ive mentioned this case over at DIY-street and they said the same thing that you did (its avg. water cooling and that i would be better off building a system myself). i decided to read a few reviews on it, the first one said the temp was at 44c under full load which i was like "ehh thats decent" but i forgot the guy was using a p4 extreme edition @ 3.2ghz. the second review was closer to what i have (which is the link i posted above), the guy used an athlon 64 x2 3800 at the stock clock speed and the temps were 30c under full load and 23c at idle, then he OC'd it to 2.52 ghz and the full load temp was 37c and idle was 27c. which i feel is good enough for my needs, if i need lower temps ill upgrade it.
  22. yea im not trying to go crazy, ill most likely get that case then if its not efficient as i like it i'll upgrade the water cooling
  23. its not really worth it, im not trying to spend any money and i should be getting a new case with water cooling within a month or two. thanks for the idea though. thats what my dad kept saying i should do it seems to work decently when i have the ac fan on high and the temp all the way down. when i have it like that and my door closed ive seen the cpu temp go as far down as 28C i do notice a little condensation in the bottle though, but thats most likely cuz the bottle is really cold and during the day the sun hits it. nothing gets in the case though.
