  4. hey i have mandrake linux powerpack 10.1 on 6 cds and im trying to compile them onto one dvd, thwe problem that i have is when i tried to copy "com2" from cd 6 in the media folder to the respective directory on my HDD it said something along the lines of "cannot create directory com2" then i just decided to create the directory myself and copy and paste the files all went well except for the naming of the folder. i erased the name new folder and typed com2 and hit enter, then the name went back to new folder i then tried renaming it to com 2 and it worked. i then tried renaming com 2 to com2 and it did the same thing, it went back to com 2 without and error message. i then tried to do it from the dos prompt and it said it cant rename the file cuz a folder with that name already exists, which one doesnt (no files are hidden). this really confused me.... i then copied the com 2 folder and its contents to my c: drive and tried to rename it and it did the same thing any1 know how to fix this?

  6. i lied about the install to hdd option there isnt one i though there was... also i cant get it to load it correctly, when i use memdisk with the iso it gets to the XP-esque loading screen and freezes, with memdisk and the extracted iso it says "CDBOOT: Error Code 5" and with IsoLinux it says cant find ntloader, and with isolinux and the iso it says invalid kernel. can any1 help me with this?

  10. hey im trying to use reg keys via slickrun (a "floating" run box) to turn on and off hidden files and file extensions. i hate going through the old way, so i decided to do this. the problems that i have are with the hidden files i have to close the explorer window that im using and then reopen it again for it to work. the other problem i have is that the hide file ext's dont work at all... how can i get it to work as it does when u select the bullitt in folder options and hit apply? these are the keys im using: Hidden Files On: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Hidden"=dword:00000002 Hidden Files Off: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "Hidden"=dword:00000001 Hide Exts: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "HideFileExt"=dword:00000002 Show Exts: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "HideFileExt"=dword:00000000 is there something im missing?
  11. i think UBCD runs off of IsoLinux if im not mistaken, so it should work cuz there are a few ISO files on the cd that you can boot to, and i love the option where you can install the UBCD to your HDD! i should prolly use an alternate bootloader that i can password protect that partition so everyone cant get into my computer
  12. is there a way for the windows setup to autoselect the NTFS Format (Quick) option and just have it so i just have to select which partition/drive i want to install to and thats it?
  13. read above, its stated many times...
  14. i turned of the paging file on my dads Dell Gen4 XPS with 1gb of ddr2 ram and his computer runs fine!
  15. one key thing that nobody has mentioned, Defrag your harddrive with Perfect Disk7 or Diskeeper 9. a severely fragged harddrive can really slow down your computer...
  16. thats what i was thinkin but i might of found an easier way of doing it. im gonna try just adding the iso itself to the images directory and editing the main menu file, because thats the way the grub iso and the Offline NT password changer is set up. if that doesnt work ill try the way u exaplained.
  17. theyre not there anymore, get them from here: RyanVM's Site
  18. if you have 4gb if ram you dont really need a pagefile a pagefile (just like a SWAP file in linux) is there for the purpose of additional memory, and is mainly for people that have less then 1gb of ram. if you have 4gb of ram im pretty sure that your not going to use all of the 4,096mb available i would suggest not using a pagefile, rebooting your system, then running it for a little while and see how it runs. if it gives you a "windows doesnt have enough memory blah blah blah...." error turn the pagefile back on, but i doubt it will. like i said to fill up 4gb of ram you would have to be running extremely memory intensive programs such as doom3, Unreal Tournament 2004, Adobe Photoshop and a alot of other programs silmultaneously to fill it up. turning the pagefile off should speed up your computer since it doesnt have to write to the harddrive as much, which means faster read and write times for other things. also incase you didnt know RAM is ALOT faster then your harddrive (i wish i had a 200gb RAMdrive ) try it out and see what happens buddy and if that doesnt work just set the pagefile to either "system managed" or around 1gb
  19. me and two of my friends had about an hour or 2 argument about this exact thing, well except he was talking about the twin towers and how they imploded perfectly. he was saying the exact same thing that the towers wouldnt implode like that from just a plane hitting it and the jet fuel heating the steel. he thinks it was a consipracy set up by the government
  20. hey ppl, i was just wondering how i would go about this, i read the UBCD customization guide but thats only for floppy images. Since MiniPE is an ISO file, should i extract the boot file from the ISO and then extract the contents to another directory or should i just leave it in the ISO format? i saw under the bootloaders section that theres and ISO for GRUB i might just try and see how they did it. any responses will help me
  21. 1. Ace doesnt contain any spyware/adware that i know of 2. a silent install is an installation where either a. no user input is required and/or b. the installation is hidden from sight. 3. i dont really know a good place to download a copy of it, search google
  22. Make a batch file with these lines. REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REM ----- The Following line makes account passwords not expire after 14 days REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited REM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <{POST_SNAPBACK}> that just makes it so it doesnt expire at all, i guess i could set it to 1, but ill try the other script from the MS page first...
  23. very true, but also linux has most of its system files and stuff inaccessabile it you arent root. thats also why there are very few trojan horses written for linux than for windows, most of the time a trojan plants itself in the system os directory or sumthin liek that, with linux all of that stuff is protected since normal users login under "user" privlages, almost any hardcore linux user (not me.... ) will suggest that you NEVER use Root as you daily user account, and this is one of the reasons why...
  24. is there any way to easily change this to sort it alpahbetically?
