  1. Hi, Geepnozeex I've just downloaded your theme and tried it. On your screenshot, there is no texts "Log Off" and "Turn Off Computer" next to the buttons. But they are there on mine. Do I need to modify something? Thanks for making the theme. It looks fine. Edit: I am talking about XPW7.
  2. Spacesurfer, Thanks for the link. But why was this update in May? The one on Vorck was in October. I downloaded it but couldn't install it. Edit: Never mind, Spacesurfer. I've found this link: http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/forum...r-kb923789.html And it seems that my problem is the same. I've got the latest version of Flash Player so I think it's OK; I don't need this update. Thanks and Merry Christmas, friend!
  3. Glad that you say nice words, Cluberti. I wish you and every member here a happy holiday (although it's a little early to say that). Nerwin, I forgot to say "Happy birthday!" to you on my previous post. I hope you don't mind at all. Cheers, friend!
  4. Hi Nerwin, Thanks for the reply. Can't you see those images either? Tain, Merry Christmas to you and everyone here too! PS. I begin to like this forum more!
  5. Spacesurfer, I see SWFLASH.CAB (Flash optional) on the site posted by Fdv. I am using IE8. Do I need this file for my browser? If I download it, where should I put it into?
  6. Martin L, I go to the link but can only see two logos by Martijn and Bas. On your post and the others', I see small boxes with a red cross in each where should be images. I don't know what happened to my browser! Cluberti, Probably you misunderstood my last post. I did need the answer to my first question only. It was Tain's mistake when he didn't make it clear. As a result, I asked this silly question: "How could he put it on when he wasn't here?" For Noel is coming, it will be nice if you say Merry Christmas to me and Tain and everyone here. Please don't try to find the errors in my posts, Cluberti. Many thanks for replying.
  7. OK, Tain. It seems that I asked a silly question! Why didn't you say it clearly in your previous post? Something like this: "Xpero made it and it has been put on the forum every year since then." It sounds better, right? But thanks again Tain for the answer. And thanks to Xpero too for the art. I like this decoration very much.
  8. Hi, Tain. Thanks for the reply (as I promised!). But are you sure? I've just looked at his profile, it says: How could he put it on when he wasn't here? I've just seen the art today.
  9. - Who put the pines, snow and a Santa Claus hat on the MSFN banner? - When did you put them on? - They look very nice. Will you keep them for long? - Is it time to say Merry Christmas to one another? OK, just kidding! I just need the answer to my first question. Can any friends let me know? I promise to say thanks after I have a reply. Hopefully my post won't be ignored!
  10. Spacesurfer made a very good post here: http://www.msfn.org/board/Windows-XP-Post-...-I-t119895.html
  11. Awergh, I didn't jugdge any features of SeaMonkey because I didn't use it for long enough. I only said what I thought about its appearance. BenoitRen, I tried Minefield 3.2a1. It didn't accept some add-ons I like such as ColorfulTabs, Accessibar, Toolbar Buttons, so I had to return to Firefox 3.04. I use this browser when I need to change the background or the font colors on some sites which hurt my eyes. I don't use it most of the time. It's a good browser, I agree. Even the modern theme of SeaMonkey looks ugly to me, whose taste is quite bad! And you missed this part of my previous post: This is my last post on this thread. I wonder why Atmosphere XG can stand the off topic posts so well! Why didn't he report this annoyance?
  12. Drugwash, "Careful" sounds acceptable, and it's nicer than "responsible" in the context. It's OK, friend. Then what browser should I use, BenoitRen? SeaMonkey? I installed it and then uninstalled it immediately. I can't stand its ugliness! And applying a skin requires the browser restart, which I don't have to do if I use Maxthon. Asking me to use SeaMokey instead of Maxthon is just like asking you to use Maxthon instead of SeaMonkey! But, thanks for your advice anyway.
  13. Hi all. Thank you very much for all the helpful information. It took me so much time to read all the posts and there are too many things I don't know before. I guess I have to read them a few more times to understand them all thoroughly! I'd like to say a little more about my computer. I have XP SP3 and IE8 beta 2 on it, and there is a router between the modem and our computers. For some reasons, I completely removed 98 SE four months ago. I did worry at first when I decided to use XP only. But everything is very OK up to now. All the security I have on my computer is: Windows Firewall Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware AVG WinPatrol CookieWall And an anti-virus program made in my country (Now, adding Spyware Blaster as 98Guy suggested) That's all. I remove junk files on my computer once a week, and then scan it with all the AV applications too. No serious problems so far. I am very careful while surfing the net. Classic Maxthon is my favourite browser because I can easily turn on/off Scripts, Java Applet (???), and ActiveX on any Tabs with one click. I also use Firefox but not quite often. The computer works smooth and fine, and I am pleased with my decision now. I am glad that I asked questions here. What you have told me is what I will hardly find on the net. I mean, if I search on the net, it will take me a lot of time to find out the exact information I want to know. Thanks CharlotteTheHarlot for the answer about the threat of infection. Thanks Cannie for your reply with the interesting link. Double thanks to 98Guy for replying to me twice. I really like your answers. Uh oh ... I regret calling you a friend, Drugwash! Can't you use some nicer words to talk about me?
  14. Herbalist and Drugwash, Thank you both for all the information. I set the maximum size of the recycle bin very small, only 1% of each drive. And I empty it every week so I don't think it can slow the system down. I often carelessly delete some files so I must use it. But even when I don't want to use the recycle bin, I'll only disable it. I think its icon is a nice decoration on the desktop and don't want to delete it at all. As for the threat of infection, if I don't go to the bad sites then I don't need to worry so much, right? I am just curious when reading something new and strange that I haven't known before. And I can't help asking about it. That's all. Thanks again for your answers, friends.
  15. Jeremy, have you checked the Fonts folder to see if the default fonts are still there? Are there normal MS Sans Serif, Tahoma, or Arial beside their bold and italic fonts? I am not sure what fonts are used as the system ones on your computer. I guess some normal fonts were deleted and only their bold and italic ones were left.
  16. Alexanrs, does it mean that if I use a router, my computer will hardly get infected? Actually, my sister and I use a router so that we can both surf the net and share files with each other. But I don't know anything about the advantage of a router as you mentioned above. Can you explain or give a little more information about this? Thanks if you have time for a reply, Alexanrs. How interesting! Almost all the desktop screenshots I've seen here and on other forums have the Recycle Bin on them. Then what is the great purpose of not having the Recycle Bin on your Desktop, Drugwash? How can this help you avoid heart attacks? I am always interested in what is strange and special! Do you mind sharing your knowledge? And thanks for your coming reply, too.Edit: Atmosphere XG, also "sorry about the thread hijack!"
  17. Amoss, actually, I have IE8 for using Maxthon, my favorite browser. But my sister always uses IE when she is surfing the net on my computer. And she says it works very fine. I am glad that your problem has stopped. If it didn't, I would have to tell you to change the mouse! And it would be a bad advice, I think.
  18. Amoss, I don't think your problem is related to viruses. I didn't have the problems as you said when I used IE7. Now I am using IE8 (beta 2) and it also works fine. Why don't you try it to see if the error can be solved? I got it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Or, use this link if you use a downloader: http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/2...sXP-x86-ENU.exe
  19. Tripredacus and TravisO, thank you for the answers. It is Server 2000 with SQL Server 2000 on it.I managed to translate all of your ideas to her. And she has come to the following solutions: - Trying to update the SQL server to a newer version (2003 or 2005 or ...) within the ability of the school. - Trying rebuilding the application in a proper setup. (Not sure if she can!) If the above trying doesn't help, she will suggest the school to buy another program to use. Maybe it's not an Access database based application any more. This will surely cost a lot! But this information is really interesting to her: She said the application could still run on an old desktop and around ten other laptops brought to school by some teachers. These computers are connected to the server through either cables or wireless connection. And they work just fine! No disconnections at all. She cursed when telling me about that. It's the first time I've heard a female teacher swearing! How nice!OK, thanks again for all the help. My sister decided that she and the school should manage to solve the problem without any more questions. I hope you all don't mind when I copy your anwers for her so that she can discuss them later with her colleague. PS. Now I feel that my topic wasn't posted in the right forum. If so, may some mods move it to a proper place for me, please? Many thanks!
  20. Mordac85, too bad the problem can't be solved yet. The disconnection happened on Access 2003 after 5 minutes of running the application. When she tried with Access 2007, the problem happened after 10 minutes of working. Edit: removing the image.
  21. Mordac85, thanks for a fast reply. Then she will follow your suggestion to test it. This can't be done soon because her school is having a lot of final exams for the students now. We hope the problem can be solved after the test. I pass her saying thanks to you, Mordac85. Goodbye, friend.
  22. Thanks for your reply, Mordac85. Sorry for my bad explanation in the previous post. I'll manage to add more information here. You are right! This application is based on Access 2003, accessing to the database through SQL Server (I hope I express this right, and hope you can understand it!). And it worked fine on older computers (Pentium 4, XP SP2, 512 MB of RAM) for two years. Recently, all the computers (from 40 increasing to 60 in quantity) are replaced with Core 2 Duo and 1GB of RAM. Now it has problem. I made a big mistake when saying the client computers cannot access to the database. Actually they can, but have many difficulties. I mean, when they run the application on a new client computer, there is intermittence in the connectivity after a few minutes. Even the computer may crash and they have to restart it. And this keeps happening again and again. Then we can say the cause is not incorrect settings. I pay a special attention at what you said: I think maybe this is the cause. But, my sister doesn't agree. She tried using an older computer to run this application and it worked perfect. It did work perfect on all old computers as I said before. She can't stand that! She wonders why a more powerful system can't accept or run this program smoothly. Is it because that a Core 2 Duo machine doesn't allow running old database based applications on it, Access for example? She is thinking of converting the application from Access 2003 to Access 2007 to see if there is any difference. I forgot to say this. My sister said these computers are used to surf the internet too. So may it be one of the causes of the problem too? Thanks again for your reply, Mordac85. I'm sorry for the slow answer. I have to wait for my sister's reply and she is busy all day long!
  23. I'll try to make my post as clear and short as I can! It's Sunday here I really don't want to bother your nice weekends at all, but I must! Then let me begin! My sister's school used a program for 2 years. It worked fine on around 40 client computers (Pentium 4, XP SP2, 512 MB of RAM). Now, this program has a problem when it runs on around 60 computers (Core 2 Duo, still XP SP2! 1GB of RAM). These computers cannot get access to the database on the server so well as they used to do. The client computers are connected to the server through ODBC (Open Database Connection???). When a computer cannot access the server, all applications on it have to be closed and restarted. The man who is responsible for the network of the school keeps saying that the problem comes from the program, not from any other hardwares! My sister, who is responsible for this program, tried using an old computer with old build and it still works fine. She doesn't know what is the real cause of the problem. She doesn't know about the hardwares very well, either. She needs to explain the problem to the school, I think. What may be the causes of the problem? Any advice and answers here are highly appreciated by her. PS. The big difficulty she has to confront is that she can't use English to ask about this by herself. I am just a translator for her and this task is not easy at all! There are many words I don't know how to call in English. If you don't understand something of what I said, or need more information, just tell me and I'll try to explain it again. Many thanks in advance!
  24. I'm glad that the answer is "No". It would be terrible if I were banned by such an auto-ban program. And it would be more terrible if the ban was made by a silly glitch! Jcarle, thanks for the reply. I don't have any more questions.
  25. Cluberti and Martin L, thank you both for the replies although they don't answer my questions very well. It's OK however. But now it generates another question, about the so-called "auto-ban rule". Does it mean that there is a program or a script which will automatically ban members without the interference of a mod or admin? Sometimes I don't understand English very well so I have to ask again. Thanks if you have time to answer this question too.
